The Absolute Beginner’s Guide to Cryptocurrency Investing

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 11:20 PM PDT

    Hello everyone!

During the last year I have researched and compiled the most frequently discussed topics on this subreddit, in addition to basic concepts that I believe anyone who's starting out in this space should know about. The culmination of that work is: https://simplecryptoguide.com

Simplecryptoguide.com aims to provide an objective introductory guide for people who are new to the cryptocurrency space, providing a step-by step introduction through the basics. In addition to a brief technical overview and a walkthrough of the risks associated with cryptocurrency investments.

If there's a subject you would like to see added to the guide then let me know and I'll add it to the to-do list. I have a few additional topics I'll be covering in due time, still kind of getting the hang of this whole website building thing, so these things take a while. So be patient with me please. :)

I am creating this post as an extension of these previous posts

With Compound Interest, small investments can eventually lead to huge gains.

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 11:04 PM PDT

Since crypto markets are always open, they do not have predetermined periods like bonds or savings accounts. Some services offer APY to your Crypto like Celsius, Haru Invest, and BlockFi, to name a few.

My problem before when I was trading was attempting to be consistent with my daily profits while not returning them to the market. Because I have no daily target when making daily trades, I give lots or all of my profit back in the low volume.

If you have no daily target or goal of reaching, you could give lots or all of your profit back in low volume. And with the volatility with cryptocurrency, this stands true.

We also have to note that there will be days that you get gains and get losses. Let's say you invest $500 today. It could be worth $2000 or $10 tomorrow. It's impossible to say when or if this upward trend will come to an end.

But let's say that you do aim for long-term investment. You can use this Compound Interest Calculator and try it out for yourself.

You can start out a little with, let's say, an initial of $100 and a contribution of $100 as well and have an 8% interest/year. In 10 years, you'd get $17.6k. Now imagine if you'd place more there? Figures like this aren't impossible… but of course, you'd expect there will be rainy days too.

It'll, of course, be hard to hit an exact % consistently each day, so this is a good way to not limit yourself from more gains but also capping your downside risk to the daily target.

Long-term investment leads to big gains, but as always, you should DYOR and recommend doing this every day. This is not one of those get-rich-quick schemes. There are really no shortcuts, and hard work is also just as important.

Reminder - we need to be nice to the newcomers

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 02:48 AM PDT

I see a lot of newcomers to this sub, which is an amazing thing for them and broader adoption of crypto. However, because of their lack of experience, they sometimes ask questions or make statements which are... interesting. When I think back though, I once asked and said stupid shit like this too. It is all a part of the learning process. While some of the responses by more experienced members can be very, very funny, they ultimately don't help these newcomers learn and, in turn, become more knowledgable about crypto (the very purpose of this sub).

Sure, inexperienced holders can be very excited seeing green in their portfolios, but they naturally get scared when the market plummets. Getting salty when they ask questions about the bear market doesn't help anyone. We are on the rollercoaster of crypto as a team. Let's stick together

    unpopular opinion: NFT's are worthless

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 11:09 PM PDT

Piracy is running rampid in the NFT space. There is no accountability. Anyone can use / copy the same piece of digital art, etc. that they come across. Why would anyone care who purchased the NFT "right" of some piece of a digital picture. It's not preventing anyone from using it, they will just continue to do what they have been doing before NFTs even existed.

July Update: Free Crypto, The importance and how to get it. From Coinbase Earn to Automation - I kept track of my free crypto and is now worth $1541

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 03:16 PM PDT

July Update: Free Crypto, The importance and how to get it. From Coinbase Earn to Automation - I kept track of my free crypto and is now worth $1541

In March I started keeping track of my free Crypto. This is any crypto that I haven't personally bought.

    My methods:

    Coinbase Earn:

You earn free crypto by watching a video explaining how a project works, and answer some questions about it, in return you receive between $1-$3 dollars for each one.

In July 2020 I did majority of the Coinbase earn rewards, this was roughly $32 at the time, and is now $188 of my free crypto. Which is up this month 17.58%.

    https://preview.redd.it/qpykdff9kse71.png?width=685&format=png&auto=webp&s=604a69faa897af51ef27cb2700dba15bc630c966

    Staking:

PoS (Proof of Stake) is the concept that a person can mine and or validate block transactions according to how many coins they have. So more coins you own = more mining power you have.

This is currently what I'm working on building up right now, I mainly stake ETH and DCA into ETH every month to stake more. Most of the other coins were converted to ETH so my staking is largely driven by it.

With the current price increases my staking rewards are up 40.47%

    https://preview.redd.it/c1bchem4lse71.png?width=681&format=png&auto=webp&s=4ed17f14eb9e18227675bcaa10d05bfb8076ce48

    Automated Rewards:

These are rewards that require none of my attention.

Mining - I Use the GamerHash, This just uses spare computing power from a Desktop I've had for years and my gaming laptop when I'm not using it. Recently I've been getting around ~.034 mBTC a day.

I also converted 58.5 BAT I earned into BTC which was added to the table to show the conversion / amount made from that.

Brave Rewards - I wrote a script that automates the BAT rewards, I ended up getting more than previously thought last month since they ran into an issue with the amount of bat given per ad and was corrected when paid out, but Brave allows you to earn BAT just by browsing and seeing ads on their chromium browser, both on PC and mobile (I also earn Bing Rewards through this method as well)

All in all, these rewards are up 43.38%

    https://preview.redd.it/ucdpl1dsmse71.png?width=701&format=png&auto=webp&s=5b4044e8a75f63a90918d1c853ec79871a094770

    Reddit Moons:

These don't need an introduction, earn by being active in this community. Of course these have been on a winning streak lately, up 76.32%

    https://preview.redd.it/623is5k2ose71.png?width=681&format=png&auto=webp&s=303a85cae27bc40c1e8f0b7956d042d316928d84

    Coinbase Card:

Next is my newest method, my Coinbase debit card where I earn 4% back in XLM on my everyday purchases. This is of course up 100% since this is my first month using it and being 0 last month.

    https://preview.redd.it/1efmmktiose71.png?width=681&format=png&auto=webp&s=87fb4847521f040b67bdc5ca1d2d9f093b7984d7

    Total: $1,541.90 (62.82%)

Since last month my free crypto has gone up 62.82%, there is no plans to sell or stop since this is all generating free crypto. I may eventually convert more BAT to BTC or ETH to stake more this month.

    Coinbase Earn: +17.58%

    Automated Rewards: + 43.38%

    Staking: +40.47

    Reddit: +76.32

    Coinbase Card: (1st Month)

    The year is 3069

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 03:36 AM PDT

You return home from a hard day in the helium mines to greet your robot waifu, your real one couldn't afford to have her consciousness uploaded to the blockchain. You notice BTC is up 13%, bullish. Alts can only follow, you think to yourself.

ADA Hodlers are hanging on the fact that Charles Hoskinson the seventh is promising the rollout of smart contracts any day now, just like their ancestors before them.

ETH is up 50000000000% for the year and the community have collectively bought a planet, they have since started their own society. Their leader Vitalik, too humble to rule, has stepped down in favour of a decentralised democracy.

DOGE hodlers have been rugged by Elon, who has turned Mars into a giant soft play area, which only he and Jeff Bezos are allowed to play in - as earth just wasn't enough.

    Updates for Brave users!

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 12:31 AM PDT

Following are some updates made in the Brave Browser -

    1) Maximum number of ads - Now you can view a maximum of 10 ads per hour instead of 5 ads per hour to earn BAT. 2) Uphold wallet limit - A user now requires only 15 BAT instead of 25 BAT to create an account on Uphold.

Things to remember if you are a new user -

    1) You can choose the number of ads to be viewed in the rewards settings. 2) Auto-Contribute option is by default ON so if you don't want to contribute your BAT to publishers and content creators then you have to switch it OFF manually. 3) You only require one Uphold wallet, no need to create wallets separately for brave browser on desktop and on phone. 4) You can change your default search engine in the settings and there is an option to choose "Brave" as your default search engine.

    Free Crypto Tier List

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 09:42 PM PDT

I went balls deep for you guys and checked out every possible way I know, to earn some free cryptocurrencies and made a tier list so that you don't waste your time or miss out on opportunities! I left out shady shit such as casino and other trash that requires you to download addons or stuff like that. This is only the legit shit here.

    Ready? Let's check these out!

    .

    ~~ S TIER ~~

    .

    Coinbase Earn

This is in my opinion by far the best way to earn crypto for free. You need a Coinbase account and you need to complete full KYC verification. For this you need a phone, document such as driving license and sometimes they require proof of residency (utility bill or similar that contains your address). After registering and completing KYC you will be put in waitlist for about a week or sometimes a bit more. From there you can then go to the Earn section and watch videos (or not if you are pro) and answer questions. Currently they have BAL, CRV, GRT, BOND, AMP, XLM, COMP available to earn. In total you should get about 35$ worth of crypto. These lessons can be completed in less than 10 minutes or less than 5 if you know your stuff.

    https://www.coinbase.com/earn

    Reddit MOONS:

You may have heard it on the news or in daily posts here, MOONS are going through the roof. How do I get moons? Download Reddit official app on the phone (no pc) and set up your vault. Then you need to actively and post (hopefully good) stuff and when people upvote you, these upvotes translate to moons (at various percentages) to moons next distribution.

    .

    ~~ A Tier ~~

    .

    Brave Browser:

This is a Chromium browser that has two absolutely stellar things. First it is privacy based and automatically blocks all the shit thats thrown at you in the internet. And secondly, it has an option to earn free crypto via Brave ads (which arent annoying). Why A tier? Well earnings are low currently so you can expect about 4$ a month if you use it (at least as European, US based Redditors may have more luck). This browser replaced my Chrome for everyday usage. Seriously, try it.

    https://brave.com/

    Gods Unchained Play and Earn

Gods Unchained is a well known TCG (a clone of Hearthstone if you want) but with well implemented cryptocurrency Immutable X as it's base. Every now and then they offer $20 rewards if you play through the game for 7 days and complete a few in-game tutorials. Game is pretty damn fun so check it out.

    https://godsunchained.com/

    .

    ~~ B tier ~~

    .

    CoinMarketCap Earn:

People claim this to be like Coinbase Earn but after half a year of doing these I've only ever received $2 in some obscure coin. To participate you need a CoinMarketCap account and a verified Binance account.

People say distribution is based on first come first served (which is stupid because bots but ok).

Your mileage may vary on this one.

    https://coinmarketcap.com/earn/

    WeNano:

This is one of most fun crypto apps ever in my opinion.

Its like Pokémon Go and faucet had a baby. WeNano spots are created by users around the world, and by visiting them you can earn NANO and also chat with other users! The payouts are ok, and depend from spot to spot. The community is top tier awesome.

    https://wenano.net/

    .

    ~~ C Tier ~~

    .

    NanoQuakeJs:

If you are an old fart like me you know Quake 3 Arena. This is Quake 3, on your browser, and for each frag you get NANO. It's awesome and god is it still a shit-ton of fun and addictive as hell.

This is the website, you will need NANO address and off you go. C tier is because the payout is very low. Its insanely fun though so try it!

    https://nanolooker.com/nanoquakejs/

    Publish0x:

This is a website similar to Medium, where its users can post articles and the website will pay you for reading them, sharing them and writing them. It's great even though pay is low. Think of it as your crypto news outlet :)

    https://www.publish0x.com/

    CS:GO NANO

This is like Quake just in Counter Strike. If you play and enjoy the game, definitely check it out. You simply connect to their server and add your wallet and you are ready to roll. Payout is similar to Quake.

    https://earn-nano.com/csgo

    .

    ~~ D Tier ~~

    .

    SteemIt:

This here is a blogging and social media platform that uses crypto to promote creating content, commenting, and upvoting other posts.

I frankly didn't like it at all and Reddit already does everything and more for me. Pay is low. YMMV

    https://steemit.com/

    Cointiply:

People had success with this but I found it not to be time-efficient compared to other option listed above.

    https://cointiply.com/

    .

    ~~ DIARRHEA Tier ~~

    .

    Airdrops:

I've been doing airdrops since January this year and I did a LOT of them. To this point the only thing I got from them was a dusting attack on my wallet

Airdrops.io is one of the better website has airdrops listed. Avoid all airdrops that require KYC.

    Twitter, Telegram, Youtube giveaways:

"First 10 to like, sub and retweet get 100$ in BTC" and similar posts are getting super popular especially on Twitter. Don't bother post your address there. Trust me.

This is it guys and girls. Now go and grab that sweet crypto!

Say it with me now folks: "small corrections are healthy for growth"

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 03:57 PM PDT

After days and days of green you'd think the sky was falling in the daily after a couple of red 1hr candles. We need these small corrections if we want to keep going uphill. Maybe some people have PTSD from the big crash a couple months back, or maybe you actually just bought in for the first time and aren't familiar with how this works, but if these tiny dips are shaking your faith you may want to do yourself a favour and keep the charts zoomed out a bit.

If the bull run is actually back on, we can expect regular 25-30% dips. You will learn to love it in time.

    Crypto as a gift

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 03:44 AM PDT

Nothing crazy going on here. Im just happy to share I was able to my brother and his future wife, who live abroad, a gift of some of my crypto holdings. Standard banks would have been a hassle for an international transfer, and it would've taken days if not weeks. They're staking it and I'm so happy it'll be a gift that keeps on giving. If not, it'll help with their future apartment or honeymoon.

Change of pace. What’s the funniest crypto joke you know?

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 06:01 PM PDT

Here's mine: doge. Kidding that's old.

The real one is that USDT poses the largest threat to a healthy crypto market because it's capital inflows both rely on a safe exchange rate 1:1 with cash dollars that the protocol is not backed by AND by volume it is the most overlying relied on asset for whales and institutional money to move into and buy BTC. We shouldn't be asking for more regulation but more stablecoin regulation.

    But anyways drop your jokes!

How the heck is Monero is so undervalued?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 03:15 AM PDT

Seriously, how is it so cheap right now especially with all the CBDC, traceability and kyc bullshit these days?

    Monero has first mover advantage

    Only 17.9 million in circulation

One of the biggest most robust and active developer teams

Is considered gold standard in privacy crypto

Is under constant threat of being delisted and being harder to get a hold of

Can be used as an actual currency

    Is cheap to use

Monero is something the I'm incredibly bullish about, it doesn't have too much price action but in my opinion it has bright future for those who do hold it, I didn't realize that there were only 17.9 million of these before I actually looked at the tokenomics, each should be worth at least USD1000.

For the love of god buy monero

    Not financial advice.

Working as a server and being tiped in bitcoin

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 10:49 PM PDT

Weird thing happened to me today. But I guess that if this thing is something that will start happening more often then it will start in America. only in America.

I traveled to California for this summer and got a job as a server in SF. The money is very good and work is fun. I'm from Europe originally. Romania to be exact.

But today something happened that I didn't think of, in a million years. These 3 kids sat in my section and ordered Pepsi and some burgers. They asked for nothing else the whole stay.

Their bill was around 80 and they paid card. At the end they asked me if they can tip me in a weirder way. Having experience with Jehovah witnesses and being tipped in books or advices, I was already rolling my eyes inside my mind.

But they were kinda cool so I was like "depends".

And then they were like "do you take Bitcoin?"

My jaw dropped and I was like " what made you guys think that I am a holder?"

They were like " idk I thought we might try, and also u have 7 tables and run like crazy and u didn't got a haircut in 2 months, you either invest all ur tips in doge or ur just crazy".

Well I didn't knew how to take it because personally I am not an investor in Doge but safe to say that made my whole week. Since yes I didn't got a haircut in 2 months, and yes I work like crazy and yes every tip is going into crypto. Btc.

Long story long they tipped my every way possible. 20 bucks worth of btc, 20$ bill and some card tips. Crazy cool kids.
