If BCH had the same market cap as BTC, would it be greener? Posted: 21 Aug 2021 12:18 AM PDT During 2017, when there huge demand for BTC, fees went up considerably. The bigger BTC gets, the more people who use it, the more congested it will get, and the higher the fees will get. One of the issues is the environmental impact this will cause because of the high energy use. However, if BCH had the same level of demand as BTC, would it use the same amount of energy even if its block size is increased to accommodate higher demand? Also because BTC has lightning network, which arguably uses very little energy, would this overall make BTC greener than BCH? If BCH had retained the bitcoin name and branding (rather than bitcoin cash), it likely would have become the dominant type of bitcoin, but would scaling on bigger blocks be greener than scaling via lightning network? It's Fusion Friday! (+new CashFusion features!!) Posted: 20 Aug 2021 01:19 PM PDT NOTICE: This post describes CashFusion as it's implemented in Electron Cash 4.2.5, which was just released yesterday! Make sure to upgrade to this latest version for new CashFusion features, among other improvements. With CashFusion, your finances are your business, and no one else's. Over 6 Million Bitcoin Cash has already been made private using this innovative, non-custodial mixing protocol. https://fusionstats.redteam.cash/ You can "Fuse" all week for a few cents in fees if you want. This post is just a weekly reminder. New to CashFusion? No problem, getting set up is pretty easy =) First, download the Electron Cash desktop wallet. It's got CashFusion built in. Set up your wallet, send it some Bitcoin Cash, and then activate CashFusion by clicking the icon in the lower right: https://i.imgur.com/DXEPLtf.png Once it's activated, your wallet will start "fusing" the Bitcoin Cash it contains in the background. (That is, it will start mixing your coins with other CashFusion users automatically.) Fusions happen over time as their own transactions, and they only cost you the network transactions fees (so less than a penny, usually). Each fusion transaction will include some of your coins*, so it will often take multiple fusion transactions before all the coins in your wallet are fused. Check "spend only fused coins" on the send tab if you want Electron Cash to prevent you from sending funds that haven't been made private yet. Electron Cash can keep fusing your coins indefinitely, or it can aim for a certain number of fusions for each of your coins. Toggle this setting and choose the target number of fusions by right clicking the Fusion icon and then choosing "CashFusion Wallet Settings". It may be necessary to split up or join your coins before they will Fuse, depending on their sizes. If you leave CashFusion running and don't see any fusions happening, consider sending your coins to yourself in small amounts to split them up, or sending everything to yourself in one transaction to combine them. (That latter does connect those addresses and reduce your privacy looking "backwards", so whether it's worth trying is up to you.) Here's the CashFusion Telegram group where you are welcome to ask questions. (Just remember to be courteous!) Happy Fusing!! <3 *"Coins" are kind of a confusing concept when it comes to Bitcoin, but you can think of them just like discrete "bills" (or... "coins") in your wallet, but instead of coming in only certain sizes like $1, $5, $10, $20, etc, they can be any amount sent to you in a previous transaction, like 0.618 BCH, 0.000001 BCH, or 123.45679 BCH. (They can also be combined and split up. That happens in most transactions!) PS Accidentally posted this to my profile first time around instead of r/btc. Derp. [link] [comments]

Posted: 20 Aug 2021 06:17 PM PDT https://fork.lol has a 7-day max grpah for BTC/BCH and the last numbers are interesting: BCH is doing 3x of BTC's of combination of moving some old coins or a lot of new coins around currently, higher than usual for the couple weeks now. Better metric of economic acitivity than pure txs/24h and even than active addresses (https://bitinfocharts.com/comparison/median_transaction_fee-activeaddresses-btc-wma90.html) https://oxt.me/charts has data for BTC only Does anyone has a good source for BTC/BCH visual cdd data over longer periods of time? Posted: 20 Aug 2021 05:46 PM PDT Currently metamask only supports ledger and trezor. Trezor is not safe and ledge keeps leaking customer data. Fuck both of them. Also nothing signals better to your local tax authority that you have crypto then buying either of these. I don't need either for Bitcoin Cash cause I build my own cold wallet and just move tx on a thumb drive which I can sign on cold. However there is no such option for metamask which means I currently have waaaaay more funds stored in my fucking browser then I am comfortable with. Could somebody make it so that my largest metamask accounts don't have their priv keys stored on hot? So then metamask would just give me an unsigned tx which I save on my thumb drive and then sign on my cold system. If somebody could work on this it will in the future save a lot of BCH peeps from getting hacked. No seriously, I know a dev that has his own coin with a 100 mil market cap who travels a lot to do presentations and he had a metamask wallet on his laptop with 200K in it. Got hacked. And that guy is a super smart guy. Had there been an option for him to separate his metamask between cold and hot so he could have easily moved funds within his metamask to his cold section he would not have lost this. So we really need this. I know there are multiple BCH devs that have already run in to this issue when working with Ethereum and metamask. We need a fork of metamask that splits everything in to cold and hot where you can at any time move stuff over to cold. So every metamask account would show if it's hot or cold. Once moved to cold you can only make unsigned tx that you have to put on a thumb drive and move to your offline computer where you open your browser, open metamask and there you have the exact same wallet (both hot and cold) but where the cold keys are stored. If we build this down the line it will protect our community against getting hacked. If my brilliant 100 million dollar market cap token guy gets hacked like this it happens a lot more than people realize. It's embarrassing so I bet most people just keep their mouth shut about it. But it must happen all the time. Especially if you have enough funds to get targeted. Having more than a couple of K in funds in a browser on a online system is retarded. Your browser is like the most targeted piece of software on your entire system. Any chrome/firefox/edge exploit, it does not even have to be crypto related can eventually lead to websites that if you click on them and then enter your metamask password before closing the browser .... Poof and it's gone. [link] [comments]

Censorship is The Pot, We're the Frog Posted: 20 Aug 2021 04:32 PM PDT The unfortunate battle we face is that people don't see what's coming. They aren't equipped to understand what the law of the EU and US can do. People underestimate the sheer technical capabilities and cunning of the state. Worse yet, they fail to realize that these ideolouges have a completely different world view. For as much as you seek to avoid censorship, they *believe* in the neccessity of it. From their perspective, everything is a potential threat to their power, to their narrative, a weed in their garden. Binance mandated full KYC today. Onlyfans just used the payment rails to threaten the livlihood of god knows how many people. I'm consistently met with blank stares when people realize just how actually censorable they were and how caught in the blue they were by US financial regulations. Consistently people underestimate the capacity to censor payment rails. This was one ideological group, puritans, not even the main one which I will not mention who is *really* obsessed with censoring peoples payment rails for wrongthink. They have a new tool, you may have just seen, being implemented on Bitmex, Deribit, Huobi, and Binance. It's called Veriscope. It's a "trustless decentralized" way to comply with the "Travel Rule". Well it is basically blockchain Swift. "Compliance is an NFT" If you don't have the layer 2 KYC token, you get financially excluded. Pretty Simple. How long until every native wallet in the world gets blacklisted from depositing to full KYC exchanges that does not have this Veriscope thing on it, how long before they start blocking deposits that don't have a full custody chain history of wallets and Vasps with travel rule compliant layer 2 KYC tokens. We always knew this was coming. Whirlpool can't work on this, nothing that lacks the KYC token can. They're sneaking a gardened "Fungibility Crisis" onto us. They're recreating Swift, and global financial exclusion. They want to, it's what they *believe*. Look I hate to say it folks but if you read the writing on the wall, if we don't normalize venues and merchants in person accepting native bitcoin on native wallets in a cash like basis, we run the risk of re-excluding everyone. Cash is king, because you can't do this to it, that's why they want a cashless society. If you want bitcoin to act like cash, it's a cultural war more than anything. I firmly believe issues with surveillance orwell antics concerning DeFi and Lightning network in general are going to go strait to the Supreme Court. They will fight us tooth and nail to the bitter end to have the right to use Lightning Network peer to peer payments en masse adoption at the point of payment like cash, and if we lose that, they will have constant surveillance over every payment, and I see no outcome of that other than stranding a huge part of native bitcoin out of the US and EU gardened chain analysis surveillance ridden systems. They want you to wake up a criminal. Sure there will be mass disobedience, but ultimately with criminal Banking Secrecy act prosecution and IRS enforcement on payment shops accepting 'unsurveilled lightning payments'..They can ruin peoples lives, businesses, imprison people, intimidate people. Much rather they would have a CBDC with an expiration date, negative interest rate, and immediate censorship. Making money on offshore exchanges and DeFi, unlicensed products? Well don't be surprised if they have plans to keep it banned off offramps, they dont' want you to make unsanctioned money that you can actually spend. [link] [comments]
