    Asus prime z390a

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 07:35 AM PDT

Having trouble adding more than a 4th gpu to my asus prime z390a motherboard, tried all the bios changes and still did not work. I saw someone say that downgrading the bios fixes it. Anybody else fix this problem by downgrading and if so which firmware version?

    Miner randomly freezing

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 06:57 AM PDT

Not even sure where to start. I have an Ubuntu based miner just freezing within 24 hours of restarting. I haven't made any changes recently.

Whats my jumping off point on something like this?

    Modular PSU

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 05:58 AM PDT

Best modular psus that are easy to buy extra cables for? I have 2 rigs with a modular Corsair and thermaltake but it is annoying to find extra cables specifically for them, and at $20 each cable.

    Fire hazard prevention

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 07:59 AM PDT

Do you employ any fire prevention in your setup (besides avoiding SATA power)? I think we've all seen photos of those GPU mining related fires/explosions. What do you do to mitigate these risks?

Most curious to hear from those who leave their rigs unattended for days/weeks/months.

(Ubuntu 20.04.2) RX5700 XT and GTX1060 has problems in a 6 GPU mining RIG (Ethereum mining)

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 02:14 AM PDT

(It means GTX1070 and not GTX1060 in the title.. sorry i am not able to edit it :| )

Hi guys, i am facing some pretty complex problems right now regarding my mining rig consisting of 6 GPUs in total.

    First some important specs:

    GPUs:

    • Gigabyte Radeon RX 5700 XT
    • ASUS Radeon RX580 8 GB
    • (unknown vendor) Radeon RX580 8 GB
    • Gigabyte GTX 1070 8GB
    • ASUS GTX 1060 6GB
    • (unknown vendor) GTX 1060 6GB

    Motherboard:

    • ASRock BTC Pro 2

    OS:

    Mining software:

    • ethminer (mainly used)
    • PhoenixMiner (sometimes for testing)

At this current state, ethminer & PhoenixMiner recognizes evey GPU except the RX5700 XT and the GTX 1070. I wonder why the GTX1070 isn't working right now as it was doing so just lately. Anyways:

I'm pretty new to GPU mining but i know how to use Linux and thought setting this thing up would be no problem, but sadly there are a few. I switched between Ubuntu 20.04.2 and 18.04.5 and many Linux Kernals, such as 5.4, 5.8 or 5.13. (I am currently on 5.8) None of them got all of the cards to work.

For the Nvidia cards i didn't really do much, i let the ubuntu-drivers command handle the most of it. I followed this guide ("Install Nvidia Driver via Command Line") and picked the nvidia-390 as the ubuntu-drivers devices command suggested me. 2 of the cards are working fine, still i don't really know why the GTX1070 doesn't operate right now. Is there maybe some cuda related stuff i need to initiate?

For my two Radeon RX580 cards i installed these suitable drivers (amdgpu-pro-install) directly from AMD. It works fine. Still i need my RX5700 XT to run, so i thought just adding these drivers would do the trick... turns out i first need to uninstall "old" amdgpu drivers to install new ones, but even tho i did all this, ethminer or PhoenixMiner doesn't recognize it at all, also both RX580 are gone..

Im sitting on this for almost 2 days straight now and im just tired of reinstalling and testing over and over again... maybe i should've asked way sooner, but before i scrap all my work and go back to Windows (which caused WAY too much difficulties) i really want to get this thing to work, and hope someone of you could give some useful advice, as i already tried soo many tutorials on the web.

If you need any additional information i will do my best to provide it to you (The rig is located at a friends house; went on holiday for 2 days in order to get this thing to run properly..)

    Fucking EVGA

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 05:47 PM PDT

Holy shit the FTW3 1080 TI has so many God damn thermal pads. And screws. I just spent 3 hours replacing the thermal pads for one card. I bought a 200x200x1.5 thermal pad sheet, and it's probably 2/3 gone, from just ONE CARD. No wonder my rig is fucking soaked in mineral oil, these FTW3 cards are just pissing all over my God damn rig.

    UPS reccomendations

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 07:10 PM PDT

I have a problem in my house where every so often the power will go out for about 1 second. The issue is somewhere with the utility company because it happens to my neighbors as well. Utility company will do jack shit to fix it. It happens maybe a couple times a week at random times. I've setup my PC to load GPU profiles on boot along with mining software and no windows login screen. So if the PC crashes and I'm not around it will just reboot and continue mining. The problem is the power outage, because in that case the PC shuts off and one has to hit the power button in person to get it back up. I've got my PC power supply (powering PC with 1 GPU), and two HP 750W server power supplies. I literally need something that will supply power to the three for a short period of time (a few seconds is all I really need) until the power comes back on. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Cudo transaction fee

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 06:35 PM PDT

I mined my first .06 ethereum today and was stoked to pull it out. Cudo wants 22 dollars of the 151 that I've mined. Is that normal? It seems super high. What are some other pools you guys use?

same cards, different hashrates on different systems!

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 01:44 PM PDT

my problem is a strange one, please bear with me :D

I currently have three 1060s (Zotac Amp! edition), all are the same, micron memory, I was getting 21-22 out of them for about 4 years straight. I bought new cards over the years, my rig started getting unstable, I removed the 1060s in favor of vegas, but I saw my childhood pc and thought why not putting those extra cards on that?

fast forward a little, everything is set, 2 1060s connected, new windows 7 installation, latest drivers, boom! 16 MH on both cards! I took the third one, connected it to my pc with a riser alongside a 3060, solid 22MH!

so the cards are not the problem, drivers? nah!, OC? checked with nvidia inspector and it's applied ,windows? actually my first time mining on windows 7, others are 10. also I bought a new brand new PSU for my old pc, but since everything is ok I don't see it as the culprit, could it be?

do you thinks it's because of the windows 7? anything bad about it? the reason I went with 7 is because of the specs which I thought is a little low for windows 10.

any ideas about why these cards are hashing low?

    MB : ep43-ud3l ,Ram: 2GB ddr2, CPU: E7500

Update: windows 7 was the culprit, went with hiveOS and everything's good again, but I still don't understand what was wrong with windows 7

High VRAM temps 3080 FTW3 Ultra

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 10:44 AM PDT

I've been mining on my gaming PC (5900X + 3080) and have been getting decent hashrates (95-99 MH/s on ethermine using trex).

However, one consisten problem I've been seeing high VRAM temps 96-100 C. Turning up the fans doesn't do much, only thing that reduces a degree or two is turning down the power limit, but the hashrate takes a decent hit.

    My OC settings:

    +1300 mem clock

    -200 core clock

    62% power

    Fan @ 85%

Is my only solution replacing the thermal pads? I'd rather not do that since it would void the warranty and I just got the card back in March,

Custom fan curves for multiple GPUs in Afterburner?

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 11:32 AM PDT

    I have three cards in my rig, a 1070ti, a 3070, and a 3080.

For the cards to all mine at 60c, the 1070ti needs fans at about 65%, the 3070 needs like 40%, and the 3080 needs like 85%. When I reboot my computer, Afterburner applies the same fan curve to all three cards, which set all their fan speeds to the same speed.

How can I set custom fan curves for each card individually? It doesn't appear Afterburner allows that.

Cant boot HiveOS or NiceHashOS on either of my rigs

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 11:08 AM PDT

Hi all - looking for a bit of guidance, I've been mining on Windows for a while now but want to give linux a try and I'm really struggling to get it up and running on my rigs.

I've tried bootable USBs for both HiveOS and NiceHashOS but cannot get either to load. Both flash drives are recognized in the bios, and do the initial boot, however after some initial loading both just end up at a blank black screen. I've actually tried this on two completely different computers with different hardware, same problem.

I've read about ensuring legacy USB is enabled (it is), even unplugged my sata ssd on one right, didn't change anything.

I'm really at a major loss here. It's probably something obvious but I am just beyond confused why I'm having such a hard time with these linux builds.

Why would Windows load 100% of the time, but Linux can't? And why are there so many extra hoops to jump through for Linux? I don't know enough about the differences to understand why one works fine and the other doesn't work at all.

Any advice or help would be much appreciated.

Extra replacements I should make after the graphics card?

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 10:57 AM PDT

Just got the Palit GeForce RTX 3090 which I heard is quite hot. In the future when I get a few more 3090's gonna build a rig but for now just throwing it in my current pc, what should I grab with that in mind? Better to build a rig now if thats my plan once I get another 3090 or do I need to upgrade anything on my current pc to accomodate the 3090? My specs (havent changed since 2014 haha):

Case ZALMAN Z11 PLUS BLACK MID TOWER CASE

    Processor (CPU) Intel® Core™i7 Quad Core Processor i7-4820K (3.7GHz) 10MB Cache

    Motherboard ASUS® P9X79 LE: INTEL® SOCKET LG2011

    Memory (RAM) 16GB KINGSTON HYPER-X FURY DUAL-DDR3 1600MHz (2 x 8GB)

Graphics Card 2GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 750 Ti - DVI, mHDMI, VGA - 3D Vision Ready

    1st Hard Disk 2TB 3.5" SATA-III 6GB/s HDD 7200RPM 64MB CACHE

Power Supply CORSAIR 450W VS SERIES™ VS-450 POWER SUPPLY

Processor Cooling Corsair H60 Hydro Series High Performance CPU Cooler

Currently have 2 fans on my pc but have space for 3 and just have another one laying around I can add if needed. Recommendations on what to do? Build the rig now or can I throw in the 3090 in as it is or maybe grab 1 part like a better power supply and once I build the rig just use that part? Thanks
