Lightning Network can not grown to large scale even if most of its problems were solved Posted: 30 Jul 2021 06:51 PM PDT Lets supose that Lightning Network does not have routing problems and that all transactions being routed by half a dozen of hubs is not a problem. It still have a huge problem: Liquidity. Lets say that you want to be a LN hub, and you want to provide $1000 of liquidity to every users connected to you. That means that if you want to have 1000 people using your hub, you will need to lock $1 million in Bitcoins, now imagine providing liquidity for a network with large adotption? Now tell me, who will lock up millions or billions of Bitcoins to gain a very small amount of fees? Most people will pay 0.1% fees or less, and if the hub try to raise the fee, people will just use another hub. So Lightning network can only have a few thousand of BTC locked up by benevolent users who want to see the tech grown, but it provides very little incentive to rational actors, lending BTC to a DEX like Uniswap is much more profitable than providing liquidity to LN. So the only way i see that providing liquidity to LN is profitable, is if there is only 1 hub that have a monopoly on the transaction routing and that on chain fees are very high, like $50 or more (wich BTC devs want, so that BTC can be secure). So that the hub will not have any competitors and can charge high fees, like 1% or more, so that people will accept the high fees since they will be lower than on-chain fees. I doubt that LN will reach at this state, in the future most of BTC users will be millionaries, companies, etc. Entities that transact very large amounts and do not care about the on-chain fees, fees will be so high that most people will not even be willing to open a LN channel, just migrating to BCH or other cheap cryptos. If there will not be a monopoly of hubs and on-chain fees do not rise to insane levels, LN will never have a good amount of liquidity and simply become a niche technology that nobody uses. The only fate of LN is failure. [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Jul 2021 11:21 PM PDT I tip my hat to the Bitcoin Cash developers. What a difference from some other projects, eh? I received this message tonight from a first time Bitcoin Cash user. I had sent this person some BCH but they had never done anything with it. Then, they got a new phone. Tonight it took less than 2 minutes for my friend to become an experienced bitcoin user, without even much help at all. [link] [comments]

New (2nd generation) Bitcoin seed storage device... Posted: 30 Jul 2021 02:34 PM PDT Following months of Bitcoin community testing, and invaluable feedback, the BitPLATES® Domino® plates have now evolved into a 2nd generation product! Domino® plates are now more intuitive and easier to use... therefore, safer to store your Bitcoin wallet seed words, by preventing user error. The addition of the built-in alphabet guide wasn't totally welcomed by all users, but we think that it's much safer to avoid confusion. We've kept the 3mm hole to tie things to, or help hang the Domino® from, and the deep engraved letters, numbers and grid-lines with black inlay, still remain an integral part of the design. Choosing 1 dot for the first 6 words, and two dots for the second six words is also more intuitive to understand, and was suggested my several people during the testing... This will make it safer to store 24 Bitcoin seed words per plate. Removal of any brand markings and serial numbers, reduces the plates value to a non-technical thief, and is better for overall personal security. Finally, the brushed-finish on both 304 (industrial-grade) and 316L (marine-grade) stainless steel models, reduces reflective glare, and therefore, makes the Domino® easier to use. All of our existing customers are being offered a free upgrade, and there are free plates for all of our valued Bitcoin community testers, without whom, this evolution would not have been possible. A video overview of the 2nd generation Domino® plates can be seen on our website or here: https://youtu.be/aIuayXWXzyg And a full step-by-step tutorial guide can also be found at on our website or here: https://youtu.be/kOalZrCujwk Just to make things a bit sweeter, we've added an automatic 15% discount when purchasing more than one plate at a time: www.bitplates.com The price of a single Pocket Domino® starts at just £18.50 GBP before the discount, and we hope you agree that this is good value for money. Your feedback, as always, is very welcome! Thanks, Chris @ BitPLATES [link] [comments]

Bitpay's monthly asset usage statistics (JUNE 2021 UPDATE) Posted: 30 Jul 2021 06:49 AM PDT On this June 2021 update we see BTC is sliding below 60%, while ETH, BCH and DOGE are gaining ground. Overall transaction count is still on the decline though, perhaps due to competition in the market or just people not USING crypto as much as they used to.
