Lights are cool, but neighbors complain, any ideas?

    Posted: 25 Jun 2021 04:22 AM PDT

Hello everyone! We're moving into a new house with 2 rigs and the neighbors aren't very happy with all the lights in my windows. The rigs are in different rooms, by windows for air flow. I was thinking of electrical-taping the LEDs on the cards, but I'm afraid of the glue. The cards pump out some solid heat, so I guess the glue could eventually melt into the card?

If possible, I'd prefer to stay away from disassembling the cards and unplugging LEDs. Spray paint is probably a no-go as well.

Running HiveOS on both rigs, MSI 3070, on the 2nd one mix of Sapphire and Gigabyte 6700XT.

    Thanks everyone!

Edit: The following methods have been found: Blackout curtains, reflective film, sharpie the RGB, nail polish, electrical tape, last but not least - turning of the lighting in HiveOS. Big thanks to all of your contributions!

Hey guys was wondering what other uses besides mining my rigs could be used for. As ETH2 is coming up i just want to understand all the options for my rigs that are out there. Any others anyone else knows of beyond Vast.ai? Thanks in advance.

    Crawl Space

    Posted: 25 Jun 2021 06:10 AM PDT

Has anyone here ran a rig in the crawl space under their house?

Assume water is not an issue. Some insects/arachnids are a possible problem. Thinking that could be resolved with weekly cleanings of the equipment.

There are vents around the perimeter of the foundation which should allow at least some movement of air through the system and generally it tends to stay cooler down there.

Does this actually work to help keep the heat from the mining rig out of the house? I'm not interested in putting a bunch of duct work and fans in. This would be a single 5gpu rig drawing about 800w.

Struggling to get 3080 FTW3 Ultra dialed in.

    Posted: 25 Jun 2021 11:41 AM PDT

I was lucky enough to pick this bad boy up last week, but I'm having trouble keeping the temps under control. I heard that for longevity of the fans, you shouldn't run them above 75%, so I'm trying to get the best hashrate I can, while maintaining safe temps with <75% fan speed.

    Currently my settings are:

    Mem: +1200
    GPU: -350
    Power Limit: 55%
    GPU Temp: 72c
Fans: 60 (for some reason GPU-z and Nicehash are reporting the fan speed to be 72, though Presision X1 is set to 60%

With those settings, on NiceHash I'm getting:

    85.17 MH/s
    Power 208w
    Temp 70c
    Fan 72

GPU-Z is showing my Memory Temperature to be around 106c. That's pretty hot right? The card is in my gaming rig, closed side door case, but it's a CoolerMaster H500 case so it's pretty good at cooling. Additionally I have a 1070ti card mounted above the 3080 that is also mining, but there's a good 3/4" gap between them, and the 3080 is on the bottom, getting cool air from the intake fans.

Any suggestions? Setting the power limit anything higher than 55% and the card starts thermal throttling.

Can dead vram chips cause fan not to spin? If the card is not detected, is there any possible way i can run programme to check if the vram is faulty or not?

As in, can people simply choose to use ETH instead to the point where 2.0 is not a larger market cap?

Vega 64 damaged, can you tell me whats the part called and where to look out for it?

    Hello,

i accidentally broke one of the parts with the writing "R19" on it when trying to replace a passive cooler. Its a Vega 64.

Can someone tell me how the part is called and maybe even where to look out for it?

(If its of interest, i am based in germany)

Glück auf! (thats the traditional german greeting for (cole) miners)

2 cables, 3 GPUs. How to power them?

    Posted: 25 Jun 2021 08:37 AM PDT

I have a Gigabyte 850w PSU which has 2 6+2 cables, each split into two. So 4 outputs, but not really. I also have 4 6+2 splitters. My GPUs are 3 1060s, 2 with 6 pin ports are 1 with 8 pin. I can either use 3 risers or 2 if I keep 1 GPU on the motherboard. The risers can be powered with 6 pin. So yeah, not enough ports/cables. 1 cable should be enough to run 2 of the 6 pin GPUs right? If the max wattage on 6pin is 75w and on the 8pins 150w. The other cable could go into the 8pin GPU and the other end of the second cable split into two for the risers. What do you guys think?

Locking core clock rate in HiveOS stopped working?

    Posted: 24 Jun 2021 09:24 PM PDT

Very strange situation here. Running HiveOS and with 2 different brands of 3080s. First brand (eVGA) I overclocked core/mem with delta values. Second brand (Zotac) I overclocked with locked clock rate. I don't recall ever restarting the rig but both cards ran at 99MHs no problems. Then just recently I updated HiveOS to latest version and rebooted the rig. When it came up the 2nd card only ran at 85MHs. Reverted to previous HiveOS version -- but still same issue.

After much fiddling, I eventually changed the locked clock rate OC to delta core/mem values and the hash rate climbed back up to 99MHs.

I guess I'll leave it like this but I am so confused why having locked core clockrate worked just fine for a long while.... and then after restart, it no longer works. (Also tried re-entering the locked clockrate values and the hashrate dropped immediately)

Side note: my settings for the locked core/mem were tested on a separate Windows machine and worked fine. Then I transferred the same settings to HiveOS and also worked fine. The rest of the story is written above.

Graphics card artifacting except when mining

    Posted: 24 Jun 2021 05:04 PM PDT

I have a GTX 1070 that I bought used, and it has some behavior that I can't wrap my head around. As far as I can tell, it doesn't artifact in BIOS, only on boot.

The graphics card mines just fine; in fact, the computer only becomes usable when mining is turned on. It seems like all the artifacts go away when mining.

I don't think it's a driver issue, since it's persisted across different computers. Does anyone know what the issue could be?

Which GPU is which? I can't tell which card I BIOS modded.

    Posted: 24 Jun 2021 05:56 PM PDT

I used The Red Panda Mining video to mod the bios of 1 of my 2 RX5700s. Using the flash tool, my GPUs were identified as Adapters 0 and 1

However, I can't find any adapter # in the display adapter properties.

I want to go into MorePowerTools to make some adjustments and I don't know which card to load up. MPT only identifies the cards as [3] and [4].

Nicehash calls them AMD #2&4 and the Radeon software calls them GPU 2&3.

I guess I could do the same flash on "adapter 1" but I don't really want to mod 2 cards at once.

I have the correct driver installed 470.05 and I usually would get 48-49mhs all the time but all the sudden it has dropped to 25-26 max

Any ideas on what caused this?

I tried reinstalling the driver with no luck.

Afterburner is set to -200 +1250 which ram with no issues at 60% power and 80%fan @59 degrees usually

Rig doesn't detect 4x 1660S (used longer usb cables)

    Posted: 24 Jun 2021 04:00 PM PDT

    Hey fellow etherians,

I'm currently mining on a Supermicro X10DRX mobo with dual cpus.

Have 7x3060s running on full hashrate (x16 3.0 riser) on windows and last week found good priced, close to msrp price Asus GTX 1660 Supers.

My mobo has 4 empty pcie slots and so I decided to buy 4 1660s. For the 1660S i ordered classic x1 > x16 risers and installed them today correctly.

But after booting up the rig, the new added gpus were not detected all by windows. Not even one.

My thoughts: I didn't use the cables that were within the riser package, bc they're waay to short (60cm) for my rig. So I ordered USB-A to USB-A 3.0 (2m and 1m) Cables and connected 3 Risers to the Motherboard with 1 meter cable, and the 4th one with a 2 meter cable. These are the Cables I ordered from amazon.

My guess is that either the USB cables don't work or smth in bios is wrong.

Can a veteran, fellow miner share some advice and if you've had similar experiences (i.e. length) with USB-Replacement, which are the ones you recommend using?
