    3090 waterbox made mining ready

Looking to buy 100 trx 3080's. What's the best way?

    Posted: 10 Jun 2021 02:05 PM PDT

You read that right. I've dabbled in GPU mining before and have bought some ASIC miners, but nothing in a big scale.

I have been put in the fort front of a medium-size project with about $200k to build a GPU mining rig. Of course I'm open to all recommendations.

I'm looking to purchase about 100 NVIDIA TRX 3080s. Hopefully this gets me some level of wholesale pricing. I know these are pretty much scarce at this point.

Anyone can point me in the right direction?

    Thank you.

Pciex16 or pciex8 slot expander for more than one riser card on the same pciex16 or x8 slot?

    Posted: 10 Jun 2021 10:08 AM PDT

Im using a z170a motherboard, i have limited slots because i have a few nvme cards in it at the same time.

I want to say i thought this was possible, but there is a way to break out the pciex16 or x8 slot into multiple risers from the same slot?

Im not sure which device it is though, i think a card goes in there and then usb cables from my existing riser cards i already bought (IE: they dont have to be the same brand/set, it can be the riser card from another pciex1 + riser card set)?

I thought maybe this $30 card on amazon, but it appears to only be a pciex1 type card, how could that expand into 4? (i really only need one that expands to two)? I would have expected at least a x4 type card?

    https://www.amazon.com/BGNing-Express-External-Adapter-Multiplier/dp/B07B2SWS2D/ref=sr_1_24?dchild=1&keywords=pciex16+to+riser&qid=1623344757&sr=8-24

(one review says wrecked the pc)

How reliable are these adapters if the right one? (my other option is to just drop the one nvme and combine a larger one from the one I drop freeing up the slot).

    Any thoughts?

    EDIT:
I guess if the motherboard doesnt support bifurcation then this card probably wont work? At least with the z170a, an 8x board in the 8x or 16x slot with 2 nvme cards going on, doesnt work, only 4x of it works. (No way to change in the bios). Or maybe it will if 4x worth works, unsure

    "Riserless" mining motherboards

    Posted: 10 Jun 2021 02:38 PM PDT

I have seen around some mining motherboards that claim the need of no PCI risers. Supposedly you can install cards straight into motherboard.

They have about 8 to 9 16x pci slots , with a little than 2" or so clearance between them.

Anyone has experiences with any of them? Is that enough space between GPUs? No heat issues?

    Thanks

Want to build my first rig, in the idea and planning stage.

    Posted: 10 Jun 2021 02:26 PM PDT

I have a small idea like I want to spend around 1000-1500 to build a small mining rig like a few gpus any recommendations? Like what cards? I don't mind going used and reapplying thermal paste and pads, I just want a small income stream, I'm pretty sure I'll have to mine some small alt coin like raven or erg any thoughts and advice (rigs gpu psu mobo and coin to mine) appreciated! <3

RTX 3060 mining with other cards

    Posted: 10 Jun 2021 01:35 PM PDT

Does anyone have experience mining with an RTX 3060 and other cards at the same time?

I have a 3060 in my PC that I'm getting 48MH/s with the beta driver. I'm wanting to add more cards but I'm worried about everything working with the 3060 given that the 3060 needs at least 8 PCIE lanes as well as PCIE 3.0. I'm just using a normal desktop motherboard (MSI B550 Gaming Edge Wifi).

So does has anyone here have a 3060 and other cards that are all mining? I'm wanting to add three 1660 Supers.

    Thanks in advance!

Major drop in 3090 Strix mem junct temp with pressure from zip ties

    Posted: 10 Jun 2021 09:48 AM PDT

In my PC case I had a large aluminum heat sink on top of my 3090 and a fan on top. This gave me about 4 degrees C drop on mem junct temps. 98C, 117MH/s, core locked at 1200, mem 900, fan 90. This is typical from other posts I have seen. My goal has been to keep it under 100C or closer to 95C.

I decided to move things around and I took my 3090 out of my case and put it on a riser. I tried it out first horizontally with no zip ties to secure the fan and heat sink to make sure everything was working. I was getting just about the same temps and hash rate.

So then I decided to go ahead and secure the heatsink and fan with snug zip ties…. And holy crap my mem junct temps are down over 10 degrees C!

    Now I'm running: Core lock 1200, Mem 1100, PL 80, Fan 80, Mem Junct 88C, GPU temp 52C, @121.35 MH/s.

I could probably try to tweak it now for higher 120s but I'll let this ride for a bit.

Try it out! If you aren't - get some pressure on those heat sinks.

    I'm using this heatsink: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B089QHMG5M/ref=ppx_yo_mob_b_track_package_o0_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I used this thermal paste to connect the heatsink to the GPU backplate (the backplate of the Strix is not flat so I figured this paste will work better): https://www.amazon.com/100Gram-Thermal-Grease-Silicone-Compound/dp/B019MSVEBY

4 GPU rig in mid tower ATX case

    Posted: 10 Jun 2021 01:01 AM PDT

Built this rig with 3 GTX 1070s and 1 RTX 2070S. Just wondering how you guys are keeping your rigs cool. The open case rig I had didn't work out so this was my last resort. Any input would be appreciated. My cards run at 85c which is actually the same temp my 2070s alone was running at before so I don't think adding more GPUs affected it too much. When I underclock I can get it to 70c stable but Cudo minder rests the setting after a certain amount of time for some reason.

Anyway thanks for any advice in advance.https://imgur.com/a/C9qZYuQ/

Put rigs in boxes to not heat the room

    Posted: 09 Jun 2021 05:50 PM PDT

It's ugly and I paid too much for every card, but it's mine(ing).

    Posted: 09 Jun 2021 03:10 PM PDT

I just realized I've been toasting my CPU at 90°+ while mining.

    Posted: 09 Jun 2021 01:44 PM PDT

Roast me all you want but you live and learn, and I find it amusing. I use stock amd coolers and only checked GPU temps, assuming CPU temps where fine. Boy was I wrong lol. Now I only mine with gpus and I'm thinking about buying better air coolers for around $40. Thoughts?

Can a server PSU safely operate at these temps? Bonus foot pic

    Posted: 09 Jun 2021 02:50 PM PDT

Would you guys remove the circled copper heat sinks if the card is going to be in this orientation ? I’m afraid they will fall off and scrap the back of the GPU processor and cause a short.

3070 Not Working After Windows Update - Code 43

    Posted: 09 Jun 2021 04:11 PM PDT

The strangest thing happened today. After a windows update one of my 3070s stopped working even though it's ran fine for months. I've tried DDU, reinstalling drivers, new risers, and different slots. Nothing changes it. The error goes away if I disable/enable in device manager but miners still won't pick it up.

    Anyone ran into this before?

Gigabyte RTX 2070 Gaming OC most efficient settings for ETH mining

    Posted: 09 Jun 2021 12:48 PM PDT

    Hi everyone,

I have one Gigabyte RTX 2070 Gaming OC (regular, not super) in my multi-GPU rig. I am using T-Rex miner to mine ETH at Ethermine.

My current OC settings on MSI Afterburner: PL: 58% and 123W, Core: -200, Mem: +800, Fan: 60% With these settings, it gives me exactly 43.0 MH/s in return of 123W.

GPU Temp: 49c, Hotspot Temp: 65c, Backplate Temp (measured by infrared heat sensor): ~55c

MSI afterburner shows Core clock: 1050 MHz and Mem Clock Speed: 7600 Mhz

I wonder your hashrate and power (wattage) for yours regular 2070 GPUs. Because, I watched Youtube channel Red Panda Mining and he's got 42,5 MH/s with 90-92 W. Is there any way I can also get that lower power without sacrificing much hashrate?

    Thanks,
