Are factory overclocked GPUs good for mining?

    Posted: 14 Jun 2021 11:00 PM PDT

Basically, I'm new to mining and I'm trying to build a 3 GPU rig as a start, but I still haven't decided on the GPUs to use. I wanted to know if a factory overclocked GPU is better than a normal one if both are at the same price. From what I gathered, it seems like overclocked GPUs have better components for overclocking somehow, but I'm not sure if that's true.

Also, if the GPU is factory overclocked, does that mean I can still undervolt it? And do I even need to?

Coin "changing" or most profitable pool(s) to mine with RTX 2080?

    Posted: 14 Jun 2021 07:35 PM PDT

    Hey now,

Bit new to this. Have two machines I'm running (one here, one at a friend's house a few states away). Both machines are basic with 1 RTX 2080 each mining in Windows w/ T-Rex.

Currently mining to Flexpool but I see the profitability on ETH (or other coins) change daily on whattomine.com so I was wondering if there any reliable and safe/trusted pools that you all use that switch coins on the fly, maybe paying out in ETH or some other (RVN or whatever).

I mean for example today ETH profit for my 2080 shows around $1.55 but XEQ shows $3.51, CCX is $2.89 and RYO $2.15. Even RVN is higher today at $1.71.

I obviously can't mine to a different pool each day as I won't reach thresh for payouts so do such "coin changing" pools exist? What is you guys' strategy for keeping up the profit?

    Thanks,

    Risers for 12 GPU rig

    Posted: 15 Jun 2021 08:54 AM PDT

Not having any luck finding risers with long enough cables to reach the 2nd tier of GPUs on the AAAWave sluice frame. Is there somewhere selling riser kits with the correct cables to outfit these rigs?

Connecting Delta fans to a motherboard

    Posted: 15 Jun 2021 08:41 AM PDT

    Hey everyone!

Looking to pick up some delta fans for my rigs, but I'm afraid that they are too powerful and will burn out my fan headers. How many amps/volts do mobo fan headers provide and how should I power my delta fans? Or would you recommend different fans for a rig?

Running evga xc3 3080 off one pcie cable

    Posted: 15 Jun 2021 07:00 AM PDT

Picked up a 3080ti today and have installed that to my top pci slot and powered it with 2 separate pcie cables. Put my 3080 into the second slot but only have one pcie cable left in my corsair rm850x psu. Mining ergo off both so will only be running at 52% pl would this be ok?

PowerColor RX 570 ERGO mining OC settings ?

    Posted: 15 Jun 2021 05:38 AM PDT

PowerColor RX 570 ERGO mining OC settings ?

    Hello,

I recently bought 5 of these GPUs, Red Dragon edition, and I paid some guy to make all the settings and OC settings as well. But I'm not sure if all my GPUs I bought are solid, because 2 of them keep hanging up at 1950 clock speed, so I wonder is it normal when buying 5 cards that 1 or 2 are not giving the best performance, because others are stable at 1950... So to know if I should maybe ask money back on these or settle for 4,5 mh/s less on cards that can't handle specific clock speed ?

These are the current OC settings

    https://preview.redd.it/qxg8lxo3cf571.png?width=581&format=png&auto=webp&s=2ff575bb4ec3d0413f26b763660417ae4a90a0ea

And these are the mh/s I get with this settings

    https://preview.redd.it/5hlgf5b6cf571.png?width=424&format=png&auto=webp&s=7cbf35fd4dccfef8f449298af0973fb561dafd0b

I just wonder if anyone have these cards mining ergo, what is the good mh/s we should aim for, because 2 of my cards keep crashing at 57mh/s and we tried even 61mh/s and was working for a short period of time, but I'm not sure should I settle for less on some cards or try to get cards with better performance.

    Testing gpu from car...

    Posted: 14 Jun 2021 04:25 PM PDT

Okay so say you're looking on fb marketplace and find not so scammy GPU listing and reach out to seller. The seller is down to like meet at local sherriff's office or near by police station parking lot to meet up. I'm cool with all that. But how do I truly know they work. Is there anything I can hook up in my suv to just see if they're even at bare minimum recognized in control management/ display adapters iirc? Need temporary power and would straight up bring a ghetto halfedcased empty mobo w everything ready to go... is this unrealistic? I have empty mobo with everything needed a adapter for power or mini generator in back. Can I do any confirmations without internet access?

Mining pc and asic miner from one power supply

    Posted: 15 Jun 2021 04:48 AM PDT

Would there be any issue with powering an asic miner and a mining pc from the same power supply? The asic miner in question just takes a single 6 pin pcie connector and is intended to be used with an atx power supply. I figure i could just plug it into the same power supply being used for one of my gpu mining rigs that isn't using anywhere near the max power available from the psu. Feels just like adding another GPU to me, anyone else done this successfully?

What's the correct fan orientation on a mining rig?

    Posted: 15 Jun 2021 02:14 AM PDT

I've been mining for a while now but I'm building a rig for the first time. My rig has fans on one side only, so I have to take a decision: should those fans blow air from outside into the rig or should they suck air from the rig and blow it outside?

General specs: this rig contains RTX 3080, RTX 3070, 2x RTX 2060, I mine on Windows, I have a Corsair HX1000 PSU, and all core clocks are underclocked while memory clocks are overclocked.

What type of external heatsinks to get for 3090 FE?

    Posted: 14 Jun 2021 11:10 PM PDT

I got these heatsinks and put a fan on it but it doesn't seem to be doing much. https://www.amazon.com/Enokay-Cooling-Heatsink-Raspberry-Heatsinks/dp/B014KKY3KI/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=enokay+copper+heatsinks&qid=1623737303&sr=8-3

Can anyone recommend which external heatsinks are best for a 3090 FE?

Which 3060’s still work with the 470.05 driver?

    Posted: 14 Jun 2021 02:01 PM PDT

I have 4x 3060's that are mining at full hash rate with the 470.05 driver, I bought these a month ago.

There is a bunch for sale at my local marketplace for just over MSRP, does anyone know if these work with the 470.05 driver and full hash rate?

One 3080 ftw3 with thermal pad mod cant hit above 1100mhz memory, but 3 other cards can?

    Posted: 14 Jun 2021 01:25 PM PDT

edit: really above 1000 is an issue not 1100:

I had 3 total 3080's that were ftw3 cards, 2 in a mining rig and one in a gaming pc. In all cases of these 3 cards, i had no issue setting the memory to around 1270 or so (and clock to minus 200) at 60-63% power.

Enter an ebay buy on the 4th card. Buyer said he had modded thermal mods (thermal paste and pads) to keep the memory cooler. Once i get the card I tried 1200, tried 1175, tried 1125, all of these fail and crash the pc. 1099 and less no issues. **Also this card glows purple and not the multi colored spectrum of the other 3 (no green at all etc), it also has a red band on the rear of the cards (side where there are no inputs), the others dont have this.

So i'm wondering, did i get a dud here, or was I just extremely lucky on the other 3 cards in that they hit 1200mhz on memory (10,500ish overall) and 99-101 mhash/sec (t-rex)? With the 4th new card, it only reaches about 89 to 91 mhash/sec, thats quite a difference I would think.

Can I mine more ETH by adding my older GPU to my system?

    Posted: 14 Jun 2021 10:50 AM PDT

    Hey All,

EDIT:. Leaving this here in case a future person looks for it....the answer is NO! Don't even think about it. Not possible. Forget the thought even crossed your mind!

I am currently mining with an AMD RX 580 8GB. Pulling in a not too bad 31Mh/s.

The card I replaced is an HD 7770 GHz edition (1GB) (https://www.amazon.com/HIS-H777F1G2M-Mini-Displayport-Express-Graphics/dp/B0078271CS)

I know I can't mine anything with it on it's own. But, I was curious, if I got a riser (https://www.amazon.com/FebSmart-Bitcoin-Litecoin-ETH-VER006C-Cable-GPU-Adapter-Ethereum/dp/B08ZT46LB5/) like this, would I be able to use some of its power to maybe eek out another few Mh/s?

Thanks for any advice you all might have!

Any SAFE remote controlled electrical outlet switch that I can use?

    Posted: 14 Jun 2021 09:58 AM PDT

I'm kind of tired of restarting my rig manually every single time something happens, so I would really like a remote controlled electrical switch that I can control remotely, from within my home from my phone. It would be nice to be able to control it from outside my home as well. Does something like this exist?
