Found a Gamimg PC on the side of the road! What next?

    Posted: 14 Jun 2021 08:37 AM PDT

Just found a little 4gb 1050ti complete gaming rig on the side of the road. My neighbor is moving and threw it out but everything works as it should! It even has an i5 6600k as well.
    https://imgur.com/a/L8Kgfjb

I already have a small mining pc set up with 2x 1080tis, but I was wondering would it make sense to add a pcie riser and throw it in the the mining pc already running?

Or should I leave it in its current case and run it as is? It's only 4gb and I would need to run eth classic or some other coin which would require using and setting up a new miner.

    Any thoughts?

Anyone else still mining on a 1050ti?

3080 vram junction temp max limit 110C? Smokey temps around 106-108 max here, hacks to lower?

    Posted: 14 Jun 2021 07:44 AM PDT

I have 2 3080's on one rig (in a cool basement) using t-rex, i'm seeing those max temps hit around 108C for a max, though since i added rear fans to the 6 gpu rig(max possible, i have 3 cards in it now overall, a 4th coming today), the temps have gone to about 104-106 max

i've seen various threads discussing the max temps, i think from what i read that 110 is throttle point.

So given that i guess anything less is ok, though in my mind maybe not fine.

I run the memory at +1250 or so, core at around -200, custom 787mv curve (although with 2 cards the curve doesnt seem to work with both cards in after burner, another issue).

On another pc thats a gaming pc i have a 3080 and it easily hits the 106ish max temp often with similar settings (but a warmer external room temp)

I havent seen too many guides showing a thermal pad mod for the 3080 ftw3, but perhaps something like this needs to be considered? For now i'm getting another 120mm fan and trying to aim it at one of the cards plates to see if any decrease is seen.

Stale shares, any relation to gpu stability or all network traffic related?

    Posted: 14 Jun 2021 07:33 AM PDT

Im just double checking on this one, but i often have stale shares, sometimes it will show 4 for ethermine (us pool). I assume that stat is in the last 1 hour as well.

I'm pretty sure this is related to just pool lag, where things are behind, at least from what i read. I dont have any t-rex gpu crashes that i can see either.

Anything to really do to prevent the stales?

    Strix G15 - 6800m mining hashrate?

Does anyone know what the 6800m mining hashrate is on the new ASUS Strix G15 Advantage Edition or theoretical hashrate for Ethereum?

I cannot find the information anywhere.

Re-padded and re-pasted Zotac Trin 3080 Temps off?

    Posted: 13 Jun 2021 08:22 PM PDT

Alright so I re-padded the 3080 today.. The memory junction temps came down from 108 to 94 (bouncing between 92 and 94), so I'm happy about that.

However the GPU is running 10 degrees C hotter than before I took it apart. Use to run at 58/59 degrees C, and now its running at 68/69 degrees C.

Is it the thermal paste or something else I might have missed?

When the leftovers become a hobby.

    Posted: 13 Jun 2021 04:27 PM PDT

Not really into huge profits, but I wanted to give a try and it was actually fun. Used the spare hardware I have laying around and build up a modest mining rig, total power draw 265W, looking to optimise it in the next few days, set CPU to eco mode to see if I can drop the electricity a bit + reducing even more ram clock and cpu fclk to match 2133 for the ram, not sure if possible but gonna try. I am used to look for highest possible value for clocks for mclk/fclk not the opposite 😅.. Specs, 650w gold PSU, 3600x, some asus b450, 8gb ram, radeon vii mining using teamredminer under Windows, I wonder if hiveOS would yield any extra gain?

    Pic - http://imgur.com/gallery/av2LyHr

Just gpu is drawing 165w, cooled by a 360m rad. GPU junction temperature 48C and memory fluctuates in between 52-57C, 1650mhz core, 1000mhz memory, 900mV. Currently doing 90-92.XX mhs.

Next few days I'll try to slap that rad inside the case, it won't fit originally, along with the pump. Thermals will increase but I don't fancy this sketchy build.

Any comments about performance mining using windows vs hiveOS is appreciated.

OC Settings for Mining Ergo on 3080Ti?

    Posted: 13 Jun 2021 07:04 PM PDT

Due to LHR, I'm mining Ergo using NB-Miner on my 3080 Ti.

What OC settings (on MSI Afterburner) boost Ergo hashrate?

Temp Limit? Core Clock? Memory Clock?

    Best Laptop Cooler for Mining?

    Posted: 13 Jun 2021 05:34 PM PDT

    I have a Zephyrus G14 Laptop with 2060 Max-Q.

I don't really use it much since I already have a gaming PC.

I can't help but think the GPU is being wasted, so I'm curious about mining on it.

I'm aware mining on laptops is generally a bad idea, but I wonder if getting a separate cooler (the kinds that you put under the laptop) will make it somewhat safe.

So in terms of cooling, what laptop cooler/fan do you guys recommend for this?

Also what would be a good setting on MSI Afterburner - power limit, temp, core clock, memory wise.

    Thanks.

GPU NO DETECTED, SEEN AS MICROSOFT BASIC DISPLAY

    Posted: 13 Jun 2021 01:20 PM PDT

    Hello,

I can't figure out why only one of my RTX 3060 is not detected by the computer. I've tried several motherboards, all my other cards work. It is really just that one RTX 3060 that doesn't get detected with the NVIDIA driver. I have NVIDIA 470.05 on both motherboards. The same issue appears, no detection of the RTX 3060. Also, I have another RTX 3060 that works perfectly on both motherboards.

More details: The RTX 3060 that is not detected appears as Microsoft Basic Display. And, I can't install any NVIDIA driver with the RTX 3060. I had to use another card to proceed to install NVIDIA driver.

    What I tried so far...

    - Reinstall Windows on SSD or USB (both did not work)

    - Used different model motherboards

Gigabyte Z390 UD running to 3060s full rate?

    Posted: 13 Jun 2021 03:26 PM PDT

Has anyone tried this? The website says two main slots running at X4 if both used, but the Bios has an option for 8X+8X configuration.
    These 3060s are soooo picky.

Clarification on 6 pin molex strand to power 2 risers

    Posted: 13 Jun 2021 06:35 AM PDT

From my research, a single 6 pin to molex can deliver 75w of power. A molex connector itself is rated for 150w.

If 2 pcie risers can draw 75w each, doesn't a single 6 pin not have enough to power both risers? However, many people here say it is safe to power 2 risers on a single 6 pin to 2x molex strand.

Can someone explain if it is safe to power 2 risers on a single 6 pin to molex strand?

    I'm running 2 3070's, both with 2 separate 8 pins attached running at 120w.

Dead fan on power supply, can I just strap another fan to it until I can get an RMA

    Posted: 13 Jun 2021 01:47 PM PDT

Hey all, today I woke up to find that the fan on a 3 month old power supply quit working, it's a Silverstone 1000w platinum so I'm pretty upset. But until I can get in contact with customer support to setup an RMA am I good to just strap a normal case fan to the front so I can keep mining?

    Second GPU is never detected

    Posted: 13 Jun 2021 01:39 PM PDT

I have an MSI MPG X570 Gaming Edge WiFi motherboard with a Ryzen 5 3600 CPU, as well as an RTX 3070 and an RTX 3060. I understand there are hash rate limitations on the 3060 in regards to number of lanes, so this GPU is on the x16 slot. The 3070 has been plugged into the x16 that runs at x4 using a ribbon riser as well as into both x1s using a USB riser. They both run fine on the x16 slot, and regardless of the slot they're on device manager picks them up with no error code, but when I try to mine only one is used. Also, the 3060 runs at 25 or less mH/s, but only when the second GPU is plugged in. This motherboard is supposed to support two GPUs. What could I be doing wrong? Is there a BIOS setting I'm missing?
