I wanted to know if a multiplier like this one would work on a old computer (hp pro 6300 sff), as mining hardware is getting too expensive right now and this computer would only cost me around 60 bucks

Cards running way cooler with pc case side panel off?

    Posted: 08 May 2021 08:57 AM PDT

I just picked up a new case (MSI gungnir 100) that would fit my new 3070, as well as my old 1070 ti.

I let it mine overnight and temps stabilized at 69c and 61c for the 1070 and 3070, respectively.

I noticed that the tempered glass side door was physically warm to the touch. After removing the side door, temps dropped to 56 & 57, respectively. Those temps are much more acceptable.

Any idea why a brand new, clean case with brand new fans would be so much hotter with the side panel on? The two GPUs are pretty close to each other on the mobo (maybe 3/4" vertical gap between the 3070 on the bottom and the 1070ti on top).

I tried cranking the case fans to 100%, but that has little effect, not to mention i wouldn't want to run them at 100% 24/7.

How do I mine different altcoins on one rig like Nicehash without using Nicehash?

    Posted: 07 May 2021 09:43 PM PDT

I now have an rtx 3090, rtx 3070, rtx 2080 super, gtx titan x maxwell, and an amd rx 570 4gb that I plan to mine ethereum classic. I know I could use HiveOS but right now I don't have a separate mobo for the rig and it is connected to my gaming PC. I also need the Windows PC to do actual work so I can't turn it into a dedicated mining rig.

All the videos I've seen on mining ethereum shows using a .bat file that just automatically use all available gpus in the pc toward a mining pool, and I don't want that. I prefer to use my 2080 super to mine Monero and rx 570 to mine ETC. The other 3 cards will be the main ETH mining driver.

That being said, I could really use some guidance as I'm still only 3 months into this and has been using Nicehash as a starter because it was convenient, but now that I wanna branch out I find that this feature to use only the GPUs I need to mine the coins I want is sorely missed with other mining pools. I can't for the life of me google a guide on how to do that in Windows.

Anyone know of a good one? I need to run 7 GPU per. Modern CPU support isn't a negative, might try to tuck monero in too.

    Stability/Wear of 3090 Rig

    Posted: 07 May 2021 07:56 PM PDT

I bought a 3090 for gaming/video editing but want to try and subsidize the cost by mining.

I started nicehash today and am running at 117 hash with temps of 55c GPU 90c VRAM 85% fan speed.

    Two questions:

    1. Are my fan speeds/temps (especially VRAM) in normal spec? I only want to mine for 3-4 months to help pay for the card so I don't want to beat it up too bad.

    2. Anyone have recommendations for monitoring their temps/hardware at work?

Thanks in advance for anyone who has time to help a new miner out!

How accurate is the power consumption on the mining app?

    Posted: 07 May 2021 04:39 PM PDT

I have 2 3090's that I'd like to mine on. I have a single 850w psu. T-rex shows it is uses 270w. Can I mine on two of these?

I also have an Asus Rog Thor psu that shows that the current wattage is 390w while mining.

Just want to be 100% sure as Nvidia recommends a 850w psu to run one 3090.

    PSA: Enable Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling

    Posted: 07 May 2021 12:02 PM PDT

Windows Settings > System > Display > link at the bottom of the page: "Graphics Settings". If you don't have it applied, performing certain tasks on your PC will affect your hashrate significantly.

If you enable this setting, your hashrate will stay much more stable when browsing or watching videos

Looking for feedback on my setup (diagram included)

    Posted: 07 May 2021 08:19 PM PDT

Right now my system consists of 5 cards: 6800, (2) 3080, 6900XT, 6700XT. The 6800 is in my PC and powered by the PC's 600W power supply. Of the 4 cards not in the PC itself, three cards and their risers are powered by an 850W PSU that has (6) 6+2 connections. The other card and it's riser is powered by a 450W PSU that has (2) 6+2 connections. All risers are powered by moles connectors with each riser having its own cable back to the respective PSU. As it is, I am fairly sure everything is safe. Each card is connected via 6+2 connectors, each riser is powered by Molex. The four cards not in the PC connect to a 4-port PCI riser hub in the PC.

I want to add another GPU, another 6700XT. The 6700XT has an 8 pin 6 pin power configuration. Across the three PSUs being used, there are no more remaining 6+2 connectors. On the PC's PSU I have (1) unused Peripheral connection, the cable for which consists of Molex connectors. On the 850W PSU I have (2) unused Peripheral ports the cables for which are SATA. And on the 450W PSU I have (1) unused Peripheral cable with SATA connections. So in sum remaining power lines include: 0 PCIe/GPU 6+2, 1 Molex, and 3 SATA. Again, these are individual cables and not simply connectors.

So to my question. I want to try to power this last GPU without having to get yet another PSU. One possibility that came to mind that I'm not sure about. It would involve powering the 8-pin power connector on each the 6700XT GPUs using one power rail from one of the PSUs, and then power the 6-pin connector on each GPU using SATA-to-6 pin adapters. In this scenario the riser for the additional card would be powered by the currently unused molex line from the PC's PSU. The 6700XT runs at about 115W under load while mining. My working theory is that between the 8-pin connector and molex powered riser, having the 6-pin connectors on the 6700s powered by a SATA-6-pin adapter shouldn't be much of an issue due to the other power sources and the low operating wattage of the card.

I know the above might be confusing, so I've drawn up a diagram. So the main questions are: 1. is there anything wrong with "splitting" a single GPU power cable across two GPUs such that one of the 6+2 connectors goes to one GPU, and the other 6+2 goes to another GPU and 2. On a scale of 1-10 with 1 being "eh, it will be fine" and 10 being "this will for sure start on fire" where does using a SATA-6-pin adapter land considering the fact that the GPU will have a true 8-pin connection, a Molex powered riser, nothing else will be powered by said SATA lines, and the card pulls 115W? Let me know what you think. The setup in question can be seen on the left side of the diagram.

Memory temps still 104°C with 3080

    Posted: 07 May 2021 05:17 PM PDT

    Specs: NZXT H500i case

    Mobo: Aorous Elite X570

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3950x cooled with Noctua NH-D15 that sits a little close to the GPU can only fit 1 fan due to RAM and being able to close the case.

RAM 2x16 GB Trident Royal Z

GPU: Asus Tuf 3080 OC undervolted core clock, memory 800+OC 220watts 95MH/s thermal pads replaced & repasted GPU. 104°C mining

One x 120mm fan exhaust, 1 top stock exhaust fan, 2x Noctua 140mm intake fans. I thought adding the 2 intake fans would help bring in more air to move the air out. With the h500i the GPU sort of creates a heat pocket where I touch the tempered glass and it is warm to the touch, which also worries me.

Even playing Metro Exodus Enhanced (not mining stock gpu) with all the RTX on heats up a bit. My room isn't hot either. My next idea is to replace the stock 120mm top exhaus fan with a noctua 140mm fan so it can suck air out faster. The back fan has to be 120mm but might replace it with Noctua 120mm.

Astetic/how good the PC looks is not an issue. Just looking to decrease VRAM temps a little more. With the NHD15 it sits close to the GPU as well and I can't add a heatsink/fan to the GPU (I don't think no room)

Sort of out of ideas, was wondering if anyone knew what else to try.

Edit: after reading more on the issue, and how there is a hot to the touch concentrated pocket of heat in one spot on the tempered glass, I will get better exhaust fans to try and get the heat to flow out of the case a bit faster/smoother. That and maybe look into getting an AIO cooler for the 3950x so the NHD15 is not so close to the GPU

Old Miner here, Come try to understand this one!

    Posted: 07 May 2021 02:36 PM PDT

I have a ASrock H110 Pro BTC+. Runs fine with 4 cards (mix of 6800s, 1 5700). Mines for days at a time. Running TeamRedMiner, Win 10, ethermine pool.

I plug in 2 new cards, and somehow only 3 out of 6 mine. I get the "GPU dead: failed to allocate ethash dag buffer".

I unplug both cards, mines perfect again. Plug in one at a time and it's back to the same issue. I've added another PSU, switched out breakout board, risers, usb cables, updated TeamRedMiner....THE BOARD DOESN'T LIKE MORE THAN FOUR F*CKING CARDS.

Just want to smash my head against the wall at this point. What's crazy is it's a random 3 cards each time that "die" and I get "failed to allocate ethash dag buffer". Sometimes it's cards 0,1,5 then it'll be 1,3,4......just makes no god damn sense. Anyone have suggestions?

The two new cards are 6700xt's btw.

Brought the 290X Back from the Dead

    Posted: 07 May 2021 03:22 PM PDT

I had a 290X lying around that I used to mine for gaming and to mine ETH years ago. Decided to test it out again mining ETC and RVN. After cleaning the card, replacing the thermal paste and lubing the fan bearings, I'm getting:

    ~29 MH/s mining ETC w/ Phoenixminer (1130 core/1450 mem, -30mv, avg temp: 72 degrees)

    ~13 MH/s mining RVN w/ Nanominer (1130 core/1450 mem, -30mv, avg temp: 76 degrees)

The model 290X I have is the MSI Gaming 4GB. This card is pretty power hungry. However, I pay a fixed cost for electricity so I'll take the extra ~$2 per day mining with it.

DAG would generate again in the middle of mining

    Posted: 07 May 2021 04:55 PM PDT

I noticed that my DAG would suddenly regenerate in the middle of mining. This kind of messes things up because ideally i would like to generate the DAG before overclocks are applied. Any thoughts on what would cause this? My gpu temps are low 60s. Thanks.

Asus X99-E-10G WS and nerfed 3060s

    Posted: 07 May 2021 04:25 PM PDT

Hi guys, I've got two 3060s right now on 3.0 x 16 risers.

Today, after years of sweat, tears and gas station bathroom hand-jobs, I finally won the Newegg Shuffle and grabbed another 3060.

I'm fairly confident this board has the chipset to support 3.0 x 16 risers on all the GPUs, but have heard using more than two is sketchy.

Should I be concerned or am I correct my board can handle up to 6 GPUs on 3.0 x 16 risers?
