Posted: 09 May 2021 02:27 AM PDT EDIT: images don't show so here are links https://imgur.com/a/Mnpibg4 payback chart and rig Okay, this happened 3 weeks ago but still sharing. Created a new account because I don't want to have my main account associated with anything crypto. You can see in the chart over time how much I was in the hole and how I mined the money back. And I thought to share it with the community. Happy ROII day to me. 😎🥳 Began mining after I ordered a RTX 3080 for gaming on the 30-series launch day. It took until the beginning of December for me to receive it which was quite frustrating. Gamed for two weeks but was always mining-curious. So decided to give it a try with nicehash on my gaming computer. Was immediately hooked and around Christmas decided to build a rig. Acquired several used GPUs, 2xRX580 8GB, 3x3060Ti, 1xRX5700XT and some consumer PSUs and built a rig, which ended up becoming two rigs because of pcie lane constraints but it worked out better that way. In January I ordered 3 more retail RX3060Ti which I haven't received yet. Those are not reflected in that chart. The 3080 remained in my gaming rig until I added a RTX 3060 (nonTi) in March for actual gaming so I could banish the fan noise of the 3080 from my room and turned everything over to HiveOS. The prices just around Christmas felt elevated already and thought I was overpaying. Chickened out of a couple of deals because the price was $50 above what I perceived fair. Oh boy would I be happy to pay these same prices again... I got chatting with the guy who sold me the 5700XT and turns out he didn't have a GPU at the moment because he blindly thought his 3060Ti upgrade order would come soon. So I felt sorry for him and lent him one of my RX580s until he gets his 3060 (he's still waiting). The RX580 was only pulling 20Mh/s anyways and I could never figure out the overclocks right. Think it was the wrong type of memory maybe. Anyways, so down one GPU but still pulling 359Mh/s on Eth. Mining from HiveOS to nicehash into Bitcoin (yes, I hear you type already. I will swap over to a normal Eth pool now) Along the way I swapped some of the mining profits into other coins. Turns out I accidentally timed these rather well. Swapped from Bitcoin to BNB and ADA before they had a good run. I also cashed out some minor amounts into fiat but the rest I keep in crypto and plan to keep doing that. I somewhat consider mining as buying crypto at a discount now and don't need the cash flow from it to pay for anything. It is a nice diversifier. I'm an economics-minded nerd and I protocol almost everything in a spreadsheet with cashflows and NPV calculations which took the heat and emotion out of a lot of decisions. I know I could have been more agressive and it would have worked out but looking at the future of gpu mining I feel comfortable with where I'm at right now. If the 3x 3060Tis come tomorrow I might build another rig, maybe I'd sell them on, not sure. What I'd do differently is not to go cheap on the PSUs and risers again. I mostly bought dated non-modular PSUs where the cable management alone was a nightmare. Also for about 3 weeks I was running risers on s-a-t-a power. Did not sleep too well after I figured out that that was foolish until I managed to get proper ones. Low-light of the mining journey so far was driving to our family vacation home at the other end of the country only to find that one of my two rigs had crashed after 2 days away with no way for me to reboot it. I'm a long time reader. Decided to make a new account for crypto stuff since my main account has some potentially identifieable info on it. Cheers! And yes, the 3060-Non-Ti is mining RVN from a usb-boot hiveOS setup when i'm not gaming, hehe [link] [comments]

Pandaminer B3 Pro for a new user Posted: 09 May 2021 08:22 AM PDT I was wonder if anyone has any experience with these machines. It's been one of the few close to MSRP items I've been able to source next to me but I wanted some opinions before I potentially sink $2200 into. I know the 4gb of vram is going to be limiting and the thing sounds like a jet engine, but I wanted to see if there's a way to make it worth it and what I can expect as far as profitability. Thank you in advance. [link] [comments]

Posted: 09 May 2021 03:29 AM PDT Hi all. I'm having some problems with my mining setup and I was hoping someone here might have some ideas to help me fix it. I'll start with my equipment: Mobo: x570 MSI Mag tomohawk Cpu: Ryzen 3700x Gpus: 3080 and a 3090 (with one more gpu coming in a couple of days) Storage: 2x m.2 ssd drives PSU: 750w EVGa and a 1000w Corsair connected by a 24 pin splitter (one of those ones with 2 wires from one the mobo to the second PSU. The second PSU for me is the 1000w Corsair) I'm using risers from amazon that had the most positive reviews but I also ordered ones from eBay that are a different make and have tried both of them. Basically, when I boot up it takes about 30 seconds to 1 minute, after windows logs in, before my GPU both show up in windows device manager, but when I try to open After Burner or my mining app (nanopool) the GPU connected via the riser doesn't show up. It still shows up in device manager as working correctly though. On top of that the GPU in the riser slowly heats up but the fans never turn on (except for 5 or so seconds while the computer is booting up). It gets quite hot so I have to shut down the pc to be safe. My bios is set to gen 2 PCIe and 4g mining mode is on. I've tried: - Swapping the card using the riser. Which ever card is directly connected works. The other one always acts like already described above. - Using a different brand riser. It doesn't change anything unfortunately. - Formatting my pc and starting fresh. Still no change. - Selecting different generation PCIe modes on my mobo bios. - Changing the ports on the PSU to alternate PCIe power outputs that the riser and gpu connects to. Any help/advise/things to test would be a massive help. I have tried a few things but I'm starting to pull my hair out! 😅 [link] [comments]
I have a question that sounds stupid: last 3080 always perform worse Posted: 08 May 2021 08:47 PM PDT I have a rig with 3080*3 and a single Vega56, the problem is, what ever I try, the 3080 in the last pcie slot will always perform worse, the other 2 gets 95MH/s, this one gets like 65~90(it varies a lot), I tried t-rex and excavator, almost identical results. The motherboard have 4 slots, the Vega 56 works the same in any slot, so I move it around, it doesn't affect anything, it's always the last 3080, for any combination, if I remove the 3rd 3080, nothing else changes, the 2nd 3080 will perform worse. Any ideas? or I just overlooked something? update: I've just done some more testing, I replaced the 3rd 3080 with a P106, now the 1st 3080 performs worse, I didn't even touch the two 3080s, is this some kind of bad joke... update: updated the driver, no change. update: I *think* I've solved it, it was a headless rig with no monitor, I use remote desktop to manage it, I just noticed that according to log history, hashrate only drops when remote desktop connects, so I guess: remote desktop uses GPU to compress video, that caused this ridiculous performance drop, and it just happen to choose that unfortunate last 3080 to do this. Tried altering my 3090 with new pads and a graphite thermal pad....and must have messed up something Posted: 08 May 2021 04:18 PM PDT Okay, so my vram was hitting 100+ and my gpu was showing around 57 or so. Now, my vram is only at 62 and my gpu is up to 75 with a hotspot of 107.... I took it all apart, cleaned off all the pads. Put new ones. I had 3 mm pads but squished them down. replaced the paste for the CPU with a graphite pad, and then put back together. I must have mussed up something because now my vram is down to 60 and my gpu temp is at 75 and being throttled. It never seemed to go above 70. Does it matter if you have 100% coverage where I put the thermal pad? I know one or two had a small bit of the corner that tore off but didn't think a small bit would matter that much. Maybe 5% of the surface area wasn't being covered? I'm not entirely sure where to begin trouble shooting this. I fixed the vram temp and created another. Im going to log back off, take the bitch apart, take some pics and will come back. Any ideas meanwhile? is there anyway to tell if the graphics processor is where the hotspot is? I was a little iffy on the graphite pad becauese it's not adhered, but it did seem like it was a flat contact as I put it in place, attached the plates and scrwed them down, tipped the corner over on its side and tapped it to try and knock the graphite pad off to the side and took it back apart. It was still in the same spot. I think for the sake of trying something im going to take that off and replace it with thermal paste again and see if anything changes. edit: I have HWinfo installed now. GPU is only pulling 41% and is being performance limited. I dont know enough about this program to use it effectively though. GPU core load is 100% but memory load is only 22%. Edit: https://imgur.com/gallery/9TopYwb Edit: So apparently all those hours were spent for nothing . I did not improve a single degree on temperature after all was said and done. Also, it was the graphite pad. Once i went back to paste it worked fine. Edit. 120 mh, 98 to 100 vram. 100 fan. [link] [comments]
Posted: 08 May 2021 07:13 PM PDT My 3070 FE is running at 42 degrees celsius all the time. I am curious as to if this temperature would count as "warm" for the 3070 FE and if the FE has different temperature tolerance than other cards. [link] [comments]

XMRig on Ryzen 3600 is dropping TRex Hashrate by Around 10% Posted: 08 May 2021 05:24 PM PDT Hey guys, I'm mining XMR on my CPU and ETH on my GPU. Been doing this for months without any problems. Recently, whenever I boot up XMRig, my RTX 2070 hashrate on TRex drops from ~44.6 MH/s to around 39-40 MH/s. Does anyone know what is causing this or if there is a fix? I can't seem to find any online resource relating to this issue, nor can I figure out how to fix this. No thermal throttling is going on as temps are all fine. Thank you in advance for any help! Just started mining last night (AMD RX 5700XT), optimized some settings, looking for some assistance Posted: 08 May 2021 11:10 AM PDT So last night I started mining with Nicehash, which I know in itself can be controversial. I'm using an AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT. Was running it for a little at the following settings with the following results: Initially
Results:
This seemed way too hot so I reduced the voltage and upped the VRAM in Radeon Software to the following: First adjustment
Results:
Finally I've found this page on Nicehash which helped a bit, leading to these adjustments: Final adjustments
Results:
What I'm wondering is: 1) Do these final results look ok? Obviously the temps are way better, with an increase in hashrate and decrease in power usage. 2) How do I optimize more efficiently? Up to now I've really just been spitballing, and to my surprise it has been working. Any suggestions, advice, or input would be greatly appreciated. I'm new here so please let me know if I should elaborate or include any other information! (If there is a better subreddit suited for this, I will gladly be directed there instead) edit: I haven't touched any BIOS settings and would prefer not to, as my computer is dual purpose. Gigabyte 3070 Suddenly Not Recognized in HiveOS? Posted: 08 May 2021 03:15 PM PDT Hello Everyone, While upgrading from standard to server PSUs earlier today, everything seemed to have gone smoothly except HiveOS' ability to recognize a 3070 that was working perfectly for weeks. The PCIe the card is plugged into shows up green in the BIOS, but in HiveOS it shows up as "[GA104] 3070". Each card has its own power cable to itself & risers. Rig specs:
All other cards are recognized & working as they should do. I have tried re-seating, swapping risers, running the card by itself, upgrading nvidia drivers, etc (have not re-installed HiveOS yet). Any ideas on what could be the problem? Hoping I won't have to deal with Gigabyte's subpar customer service... Thanks! Edit: I think it is worth mentioning that the card does light & spin up. I've also tried switching the PCIe to Gen 1/2 & auto (auto seems to work the best). No video output comes out of the card except the AsRock logo on boot. [link] [comments]
Server PSU and BTC-37 motherboard question Posted: 08 May 2021 02:27 PM PDT I am planning to run 2 btc-S37 with 1 2400w server psu, will I have any issues with this? The motherboards will be loaded with 1660 supers so 8x70w (560w for the cards) if the spacing isn't a problem and the board is only supposed to use 20W. Is there an issue running multiple setups off 1 psu? I'm planning to add more later that is why I want to use a 2400w psu, so I can maximize the power outlets that I will be running for these. Also, I know this motherboard is essentialy risers built in to a motherboard so should I assume the total watage per board if I can fit 8 1660 supers would be 1180w? 560 from cards 600 from risers 20 from mobo? Issue Running Vega 56 & 64 together Posted: 08 May 2021 02:11 PM PDT Hi all, Running into a bizarre issue. Just got a Vega 64 and it seems to be running fine as long as Vega 56 is not connected. Once I connect it with Vega 56, driver start to crash, NiceHash throws benchmarking issues. Wondering if anyone else has had this issue and can propose a solution. Thanks [link] [comments]
