BTC via Nicehash -or- ETH mining -or- both ?

    Posted:

Morning all. Hey - noob here ( 1 month under my belt, 130 MH/s, but adding 2x 3060ti's in a week), looking to diversify from only BTC. However, last couple days Nicehash rates have been great. Thoughts on ETH mining vs NH ? Seems pure mining with a pool (Hiveon is free) may make more $$$$. Thanks

    Powering 4x RTX 2060

    Hi All,

I've got 4 RTX 2060 cards and I'm trying to find the best way to power them all. Can someone confirm if the image here is valid?

Note that the 6+2 (black lines, e.g. 1x8pin to 2x6+2) are cables that came with the PSU (which is a Corsair 850 Modular Gold).

    6900 XT High Memory Temperature

    Posted:

Hey everyone, I have a ASROCK RX 6900 XT Phantom D AIB Card. And my wattman settings are 1150 Core Clock, 825mV, 2134 MHz Memory Clock with fast timing. And with these settings the card sits at 150W Power consumption. However, when I check the Memory Junction temperature it goes between 84 and 86. Isn't that very high for an AIB model? Can someone give me advice? Thanks.

    Show off your mining rigs

    Posted:

I just started a new instagrampage where I would like to showcase some of the nicest/biggest/coolest/... or even most ghetto miningsetups. If you are interested in showing off your rig send me a PM and I will feature your rig on my page.

Also, don't forget to follow the page!

How to read (NVidia) GPU memory junction temperature programmatically?

    Posted:

So I've been mining a bit on the side with my RTX3090 and I'm quite worried about the memory junction temperature. I've been monitoring it through HWInfo64, but that is a visual and manual check.

I would like to develop a small application that warns me when temperatures are getting too high.

Initially I was under the impression I would be able to do this via the NVAPI with the latest drivers, but no such luck. Theoretically, the code is all there, but the driver is not returning the values (https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/t/reading-the-memory-junction-temperature-via-nvapi/172818)

Does any one know of any code out there that can read this temperature? It doesn't matter what programming language, I'm sure I'll be able to make sense of it.

NiceHash VS Hiveon VS Ethermine Test - Day 14 Update

    Posted:

    Hey everyone!

I'm collecting data to compare NiceHash, Hiveon and Ethermine in order to find out what's the best option for me, so I might as well share the data with you. My NiceHash rig is running Windows 10 Pro with the NiceHash Miner and the direct mining rigs are running HiveOS with T-Rex miner. Suggestions and feedback is welcome.

For my calculations I use the accepted hashrate, not reported.

    €/100 mh/s NiceHash €/100 mh/s Hiveon €/100 mh/s Ethermine
    Day 1 € 8.9 € 9.5 -
    Day 2 € 9 € 9.2 -
    Day 3 € 9.25 € 8 -
    Day 4 € 8.66 € 8.19 -
    Day 5 € 8.14 € 7.88 -
    Day 6 € 7.35 € 6.82 -
    Day 7 € 8.32 € 8.76 -
    Day 8 € 8.2 € 7.52 -
    Day 9 € 7.13 € 6.69 -
    Day 10 € 6.99 € 6.74 € 6.98
    Day 11 € 7.36 € 7.77 -
    Day 12 € 8.24 € 7.89 € 8.48
    Day 13 € 8.42 € 8.81 € 9.77
    Day 14 € 9.16 € 8.98 € 9.8

It looks like Ethermine is way more profitable than Hiveon, but more data is needed before a definite answer can be given. I currently have 900 mhs in NiceHash and 400 split between Hiveon and Ethermine. I will most likely move almost all of my rigs to Ethermine as it seems to be the best right now. Would you be interested in more updates?

How long can my GPU last if Im mining 24/7

    Posted:

Im just a small time miner with RTX 2070 curently mining eth. I set up a table fan to cool it and temperature is usually 60 degrees celsius. Im mining 24/7.

How long can my GPU last like this. Does mining itself/usage use up GPU or is it the high temperatures?

    EVGA 3070 FTW3 ICX3 VRAM TEMPS

    Posted:

    Hiya folks.

I didn't see this readily available anywhere so I figured I can share this data to help others. I'm not sure exactly which EVGA products have their "ICX3" cooling solution (which includes more sensors) but the 3070 FTW3 has it. I wanted to check my VRAM temps relative to core temp and hotspot temp so that I have peace of mind while I continue to operate in HiveOS.

    photo of HWinfo graphs

My conclusion is: 3070 FTW3 VRAM temps for eth mining are within ± 5°C. I am now no longer worried about VRAM temps.

I have two GPUs butted against each other in a ATX case with no real clearance for airflow. OC are: +1200 mem OC, 50%PL, -500 core OC, fans locked at 65%

    Mining Crypto and US Taxes

    Posted:

Getting started studying up for 2022 tax season and hoping someone could give me some input.

When mining crypto in the US is it considered self employment by the IRS if you do not have an official business. I read that the value of the crypto when it was paid out to you is what is used to calculate any taxes owed.

If i mine $100 dollars worth of bitcoin today and pay my taxes on it when it was mined. Do I have to pay capital gains taxes on it if I HOLD it for years and sell it when its worth $1000?

Powering a high power GPU with splitters

I am trying to figure out the best way to power my 1070ti that uses a 6+2 and 6 pin cable. I ran out of PSU cables and slots, so this is my last available cable. Can I power the GPU with a single PSU cable with the splitter connecting to both GPU slots and the second head from the cable to the riser? If this isn't safe, do I have additional options?
