    Big Dumb Investment Update

    I took out a 3rd mortgage against my house and bought 100 GPUs at 3xMSRP on eBay, and another 100 GPUS on ShopBLT and Alibaba. The delivery date is next week. I also purchased 200 Intel Xeon Platinum 8280M / 2.7 GHz processors for $1900 each and 200 1600W EVGA PSUs for $500 each. Everything but the GPUs and risers are in my garage. Will I be able to run them all off a single 15A circuit? Also will this setup work when ETH moves to PoS ? My wife told me it's a bad idea but I am a software engineer so if everything goes to 0 I can work the rest of my life to pay off the mortgage and have nothing left for retirement. Did I make the right move?

    Slacker 3080 FE thermal mod

    So I took three tries at this.

    First time I only took the back plate off and added grizzly minus 8 2mm mads to the spot where IGOR showed the heat problem. NOTHING.

    Second time I added thermal mads to all the VRAM on on the backplate. NOTHING.

    This time I took off the GPU side and added 1.5 mm minus 8s but didn't remove the existing thermal pads and pulled the yellow and black wires out by mistake and didn't flip up the releases on the ribbon wires before pulling them. Put it back together and she was broken.

    I then took it all apart. Detached and reattached the wires and scraped off the white existing thermal pads on the VRAM on the GPU side. I got her clocked at +1200 memory and at 85% power with 85% fans and she's hashing at ~99.5 @271w(software). HWINFO says no thermal throttle.

    Hi guys, so im inbetween moving offices, as of now i have had to bring some rigs home in a spare room, as you can image the room gets warm, i have just bought an air conditioner with the pipe out the window, but that clearly wont be enough, should i also place a fan at the back of the room to push air down? or will that affect the air conditioning.

    PS, regarding the air con, should the vent on the front be open or closed, i feel like it should be closed, i checked the end of the pipe and its blowing out hot air, so i assume its working.

    Mining with GPU in 2021 and beyond

    I have being buy and holding Bitcoin from 2017, only recently (December 2020) I became interested in mining and start to research more information about it. My understanding of computer components is quite limited but the process seems quite straight forward and there are a lot of tutorial around to set up a rig (I am not here to ask about best gpu etc.)

    Now to the point, I am seriously thinking of starting my own mining rig but I have couple of doubts:

    1. Is proof of work here to stay? With Etherum 2.0 trying to shift to proof of stake and other project as DOT, KSM already offering staking reward.

    2. Is worth to wait for Nvidia to release new CMP HX? With Nvidia cutting the hash rate for the latest GPU not sure whether mining can be profitable.

    3. Has anyone attempted to buy GPUs on Alibaba?

    Why is flexpool not listed on poolwatch.io?

    Hi, I am relatively new to crypto and mining. I just stumbled over the fact that flexpool is not listed at https://www.poolwatch.io/coin/ethereum?

    Does anybody know why?

    Edit: poolwatch is operated by Ethermine pool. Hence, they won't list better pools. 🤷‍♂️

    30-series GDDR6X memory temps?

    Has it been long enough for anyone to show that sustained 100C-110C GDDR6X memory temps on 3080/3090 cards are an actual concern? I see people freaking out and modding their cards, but they don't throttle until 110C, so aren't they designed to operate at those temps?

    Worth changing thermal pads on asus rog 3080 strix oc? @75%fan MJ: 86-88c now

    I am wondering will i see improvements in thermals? Most of the posts i see are gigabyte 3080s with no pads on backplate seeing 100+mem junctions. I can see the thermal pads inside and they look greyish white and not like the cheap white ones i see in crappy thermal padded cards. Anyone with experience changing the asus rog 3080 OC thermal pads?

    Worse perfomance after watercooling 3090 Palit,

    Hi,

    My Palit GeForce RTX 3090 GamingPro was a great perfomance, it hashed for 125 with no throttling.

    I decided to water-cool it to increase potentially lower the temperatures and have the card last longer, unfortunately its worse now, it maxes out at 105 and throttles down to 90+ when the room gets hot.

    Anyone else had the same experience? I will be buying the ekwb active waterblock coming out now in April, so not going to try to reset the backplate(the gpu itself has great temps.) Just curios if anyone had the same experience?

    Note this is my gaming computer that works when I am not using it for other things not in a mining rig, it has 2 360 radiators with 6 120 mms.

    Question about dual GPUs and windows putting 2nd GPU in "1st position"

    I have 2 GPUs : 1 RTX 3080 in 1st pcie slot and 1 RTX 2060 super in 3rd pcie slot (not SLI). Here is a pic of the setup : https://i.redd.it/ec6zgawxreo61.jpg

    GPUZ and Afterburner list my 2060 as GPU0 and 3080 GPU1. But the 3080 is in the "main" PCIe slot. Why would the 2060 be GPU0 ? I looked rapidly in bios but couldn't find anything. MOBO is MSI X570 TOMAHAWK.

    When RTX 3080 is only GPU in rig, Nvidia Broadcast works absolutely fine. However when I'm with 2 GPU 2060+3080 setup, Broadcast doesn't work. Anyone would know why ?

    Leaving this here for anyone whos having problems finding a motherboard that will run 4 different gpus at max mhs with 2 of them being 3060 12gb on the dev software. So i managed to purchase 2x 3060 cards and came across the problem of finding a mobo to actually support these cards mining eth without destroying the bank account on x99/x79 boards xeon cpus ect. I found the msi x470 gaming plus max first two slots support 8x gen 3 if you run it with a ryzen 1/2 gen cpu, the best part about this board is ive been able to add my 3080 to the end slot which is 2x gen 3 and its running perfectly. Now here is where it gets interesting i plugged one of my 1060 cards into the pcie riser slot and enabled 4g encoding in the bois and it actually worked aswel! So this board can run at the MOST 2x 3060 12gb cards and 2x other random cards (so far going to try adding more as the board has 3 pcie riser slots and 3 pcie 16x slots) Any questions feel free to ask me here or dm me!

    Was mining for 2 weeks with hiveos but now it goes online then immediately offline. This screen flashes real quick then disappears. Not sure how to get it mining again. Any suggestions?

    Simple question, and it makes me think I'm overlooking something: Why do some people use a fixed Fan Speed % instead of Auto? (E.g., in MSI Afterburner.)
