Building my first rig. Do Motherboard and CPU really matter? Posted: 15 Feb 2021 02:30 AM PST I started building my mining rig a few days ago, already got myself a Sapphire R9 390 8GB GDDR5 Nitro TRI-X OC to start with, and now looking for a motherboard, cpu, ram, psu. Found a used motherboard + CPU + cooling for ~25 usd. Need advice, will it work well if in good condition? Do higher quality parts improve the performance? Gigabyte GA-N3050M-D3P (rev. 1.0) + N3050 CPU + Passive cooling Motherboard: Link Includes:

Why does hashrate drop below certain GPU power even though not seeing errors? Posted: 15 Feb 2021 08:43 AM PST Trying to optimize my EVGA 3070 xc3 and I've just been copying the general good advice that's out there and it's working well. Right now I'm at 60%power/+1300Mhz/-500core getting 61MH/s with no errors. If I drop just power to 55%, it drops to 53MH/s. But I'm still not seeing errors or anything. I know, just put it at 60% and that's fine, I just wanted to understand a little better what causes it to hit a limit - is there something I could see in hwinfo or gpu-z? [link] [comments]

How usable is this PC for normal use (no gaming) Posted: 15 Feb 2021 04:35 AM PST I am building a PC for my gf using a 4650g APU and having all display etc through the igpu and the GPU (3070 or 3080) mining in the background. Will this make the PC sluggish while browsing/media server etc? I have never tried mining before but since I have the hardware I though I might as well make it work a bit I have both a 3080 and a 3070 but a bit wary of the GDDR6X vram temps baking is that something I should be worried about? Just a friendly reminder. Don't forget to disable replays. Posted: 14 Feb 2021 12:08 PM PST Geforce experience and amd adrenalin software offer you to always record your screen and the recording is decoded with the gpu. I gained about 1-2 MH/s and lowered my power consumption after I turned it off. Most of you probably have it off by default but it's easy to forget about so here is a friendly reminder to check if it's off. [link] [comments]
Posted: 14 Feb 2021 08:42 PM PST I have my 5700XT bios modded for Ethereum, (the memory straps). Does this same mod apply to Ravencoin? Any tips for best performance on Ravencoin? It seems Ravencoin is more GPU dependent than RAM dependent so is it best to let the 5700XT rip on Ravencoin or is unvervolting beneficial? [link] [comments]
Afterburner not reapplying OC settings on TRex hiccup Posted: 14 Feb 2021 07:48 PM PST I am running TRex when not using my gaming PC to run Ethash. I have an Afterburner OC setting I have tuned to my liking, however it sometimes drops out. Occasionally T-Rex will hiccup and restart all within the software (CMD line says it's restarting and it gets logged in TRex statistics). However when it reloads, Afterburner seems to have dropped my OC settings. The UI shows that my profile is loaded but TRex shows it is drawing way more power than it should. I reenter my settings and hit apply in afterburner and my power draw immediately returns to normal. [link] [comments]
ASUS 3090 TUF stats - 124 MH/s, 308 watts (no modifications) Posted: 14 Feb 2021 02:18 PM PST Hi, New to mining. I paid $2,120 for an ASUS TUF 3090. As you can tell, i bought it off a reseller. Using nice hash (dagger hashimoto), I'm getting 124 MH/s on 308 watts. I have a ryzen 7 3.0 Ghz and 64 mb ram. I haven't done anything physically to the card (but I have some thermal pads on the way). Power limit @ 88% Core clock @ -100 Memory clock @ +1435 Fan speed @ 75 Temperature held very steady at 50c. At this rate, the GPU will pay itself back in about 125ish days using nicehash. I think that payback period will decrease even more once I move to Ethhash. Even for the amateur enthusiast you'd be hard pressed to argue against a < 150 day payback on ANY investment, let alone one that's gonna be able to actually play cyberpunk. What tips do you have? should I cover my operating costs/invest Posted: 15 Feb 2021 01:14 AM PST Hi! I built a new gaming PC in December with a 3060 TI FE which I got at the SRP and started mining with it whenever I'm not playing something. Since it turned out to maybe be the best mining card rn I thought I'll try to get another 3060 TI FE at SRP whenever the next Nvidia drop happens.. and I got lucky again last week. So I'm at a little over 120 MH/s right now for ~310 W (including the entire PC). Right now I'm only using nicehash and I'm wondering whether I should cash some of the BTC to cover electricity and the second GPU (I don't consider the first an invest since I didn't get it for mining originally) or hold for the long run. I don't really need the money but I'm wondering if it's a reasonable thing to do since BTC might drop down again. I also wonder whether I should diversify my coins a bit and mine via a pool to get some ETH directly as opposed to getting payed in BTC by nicehash. would be nice to get opinions from some experienced miners! Posted: 14 Feb 2021 12:58 PM PST With all this concern about the 3080 memory temps, I'm concerned the RAM is baking in my 3070's but without a temp sensor there's no way to know for sure. Can anyone confirm if the RAM chips are(not?) directly cooled via the backplate or not and thus will heatsinks on there help (I've thrown a few I had knocking around and they do seem to help keep temps lower tbf)? Or just open them up and repad with some better thermal pads? Or just stop worrying crack on as they're running at 50-55 and not showing any signs of thermal throttling even when backing off the fans and letting the temps rise to 65+? [link] [comments]

Set overclock settings in .bat or .ini file Posted: 14 Feb 2021 01:25 PM PST I am switching from Nanominer to T-Rex on my 3080 gaming computer as I heard it was better (better hash rates?) Now Nanominer had a really nice feature where I could set my OC settings in the .ini file, but for T-Rex I have to enable my OC settings with an MSI afterburner profile every time. Is there a way to do this with T-Rex, or alternatively another comparably good miner to T-Rex that has this feature that I could switch to. [link] [comments]
