    Dropping GDDR6X memory temps

    Dropping GDDR6X memory temps

Heard about how hot GDDR6X got, this dropped temps from ~100 *C to 88-90*C, has anyone tried this stupid method?

Is it safe to run mining at 88-90 *C on GDDR6X? This is still way hotter than gaming, where I am at about 60-80 *C

    EIP-1559

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 12:06 PM PST

If you don't already know what this is please read up. This is going to destroy mining income. Do not believe what the core developers say - they are actively hiding the real impact of what this change will do. Listen to the core developer calls - they are public on youtube - they actively discuss ways to trick miners into thinking that they won't have their mining profits impacted.

You can do something - support pools which are opposed to 1559.

    https://stopeip1559.org/

If more than 51% of miners do not support the change, then there will be a hard fork, which would be a disaster for the core developers. Make your voice heard - if you are not mining with a pool that opposes 1559 then let them know you are going to switch unless they publicly come out with their opposition.

3070 Hash rate dropping with display in use?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 03:23 AM PST

I've recently started mining with a Gigabyte 3070 Eagle OC on my gaming PC and am able to hit about 60mh but noticed that when I am using my PC for other things like browsing I notice a decline in hash rate from anywhere 60mhs to 40mh range

When I have my display off and check the hash rate from ethermine, I notice it averaging closer to the expected 55-60mh or so. Any idea why this is the case?

On afterburner I have it set at 57%PL -50 Core and +1300 Memory clock.

Edit: forgot to mention I'm mining on T-rex miner on windows 10

Questions/Help with building a mining setup? Specifically optimizing cost and power efficiency.

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 02:57 AM PST

Hi I'm new to this. I've built a PC before for my freelance work, but am wanting to start mining ETH and would like some advice -- specifically on optimizing cost and power efficiency.

    1. AMD vs Intel? (Price, Power, and Mining Efficiency)
      1. I know that AMD used to be cheaper (as I once bought a Ryzen 7 3800X for only $280). But is AMD still better than Intel for the cost?
      2. My local PC shop currently sells: $100 i3-10100 3.6Ghz 4-Core | $140 i5-10400F 2.9Ghz 6-Core | $150 i5-10400 2.9Ghz 6-Core | $170 i5-9600K 3.7Ghz 6-Core | $200 i7-9700F 3.0 Ghz | $200 Ryzen5 3600 3.6Ghz 6-Core -- Once I chose a processor, a motherboard will be easy...
    2. I know GPUs are the most important aspect. Are RAM/Processor/SSD Space important?
    3. I plan to use EthOS. I don't need Windows if I only use it for mining, right?
    4. Any Tips / Power-saving tips?
    5. How much bandwidth should I expect it to use?

Thanks for all the help in advance

Can I use risers on PCIe x16 ?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 02:17 AM PST

    Hi,

Question in the title. I have a classic Mobo and I would like to know if I can use risers on PCIe x16. I suppose I can, as risers will use 4 lanes instead of 16 but I would like to have a confirmation.

    Best

Kernel-Power Error Code 41 on Mining Rig... Seems to gain frequency at nighttime.

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 07:35 AM PST

Hello. I've recently started mining. I have 2 rigs. One is my gaming PC with a 3070. No problems with that other than lower hashrates when I have a display plugged in. Not really worried about that though(if you have suggestions I'd love to hear 'em lol).

Anyway. What I came here for help troubleshooting was:

Specs below, my rig is turning off at seemingly random times. During the day, it seems to work flawlessly for 12+ hours at a time. Unfortunately, it turns off at random times. I've checked win10's event viewer, and I find errors as follows. It's the same error EVERY time the PC restarts unexpectedly. Also good to note here that I'm about 4 hours away at college, and my dad and teamviewer are the only way I can (try) to fix this.

    https://imgur.com/a/zJIYlCk

After lots of googling, trying different search terms, I found that conflicting sound drivers can cause this? I wasn't sure so I disabled one of the Nvidia sound drivers. Started the computer. Turned off after about 30 minutes. Turned the PC back on. Turned off after about 20 minutes. I've disabled all audio drivers now except for the one being used by Windows by default.

It's not an overheating problem as one GPU never gets above 53C and the other never gets above 61C.

Also, I don't have any other PSU I can test it with. I do have another PSU, but it doesn't have enough plugs to support both 3070s.

Something else I noticed was that the top PCIe slot is x16, while the second one is installed in an x8. Could that be problematic enough to crash Windows?

I appreciate any and all help given! :)

    Specs:

    • Gigabyte GA-Z97X-SLI Motherboard, i5-4690
    • 2x ASUS KO 3070's OC'd to -400/+900, 52% PL
    • PowerSpec 750w Bronze PSU (I suspect this may be the culprit)
    • Windows 10
    • Newest Version of Phoenix, mining on Flypool(Ethermine), getting about 59 MH/s give or take.

Anyone willing to give me a hand getting Phoenixminer working on Linux Mint?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 10:24 PM PST

I get it all set up, I run amdgpu-install (have tried with --opencl=legacy, have tried without. Have tried pro, have tried non-pro. Whenever I launch phoenixminer, it says no gpus are found.

I have Googled all over the place and can't find any troubleshooting guides. I am trying to run 2 rx570s and a 5700xt. All work fine in win10.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Any mining pools publicly supporting EIP1559?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 06:57 AM PST

I saw on the anti-1559 website that F2Pool was, but after signing up it looks like they're BTC only (unless I missed something). I want to support the upgrade to EIP1559, does anyone know any pools I can mine on?

    Thanks!

    Is "Stormgain" safe?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 11:04 PM PST

I saw an ad for a miner called Stormgain and it claims to do "200x leverage mining", and claims not to use CPU and on top of that run on you browser. This sounds extremely fishy to me so I'm asking for your opinions.

Add2PSU if my power supplies have I/O switches?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 09:13 PM PST

Hoping someone can help here, got a couple Add2PSU units and realized after hooking everything up that my new Corsair 750w power supplies have on/off switches. Obviously needed to flip them to the on position for anything to register, but when I do that the power supplies just turn on individually with the flick of the switch.

Do I even need these Add2PSUs? As far as I can tell I can just switch on both PSUs before booting up my rig, everything runs just fine.

    Cheers

    Renting out your GPU

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 04:47 PM PST

Other than mining in a pool of course. Are there any other companies you can rent your GPU to such as for AI, folding or rendering that people could recommend?

    Can server PSU’s be quiet?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 01:48 PM PST

I've avoided them because of the noise but I read a comment where someone said if they have a smaller load they can be quiet.

Do you use aircon on your rigs?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 07:16 PM PST

I'm new and just wondering how much does aircon affect your profits? I figured that I could run mining on my SLI rig that I have for gaming anyway. But since it's in a room that has aircon on, wouldn't the extra heat generated just cause my aircon to work harder? Or would you say the money you mine outweighs the cost of keeping the air cool? Thanks

Amateur Miner - Help Cashing Out

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 12:39 PM PST

Hello everyone! So this is my second week mining on two 1070s plugged into my gaming PC and I have already put a plan to build my own rig few months from now, once I have collected enough funds for that.

However, being in a country that is in an economic crisis with a failing banking system, I was wondering how I could exchange my BTC to USD and then be able to withdraw that money for future investments. I am currently mining on NiceHash and plan on exchanging my BTC to USD through CoinBase. But how do I go from there? Would I be able to transfer my CoinBase funds to a friend's account who lives abroad and can guarantee getting the funds out of his account? Or is there another way to go about this? Thanks!

I have another issue I have installed the card correctly but I get an error on the pci slot when I turn on the miner and the os can't see it. Please help me, I am getting mad for this.

Should I be getting more MH/s? RX 590

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 03:48 PM PST

Hello, I'm just getting started in mining. I'm trying my RX 590 and I'm getting 23MH/s, but a friend told me I should be getting at least 30 with this GPU. Does anyone else has this card? What kind of tuning should I do?

    6800 periodically runs at 68-70 Mh/s

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 10:51 AM PST

    Hey everyone,

I just started mining with my PC for the first time earlier this week, most of the time my hashrate is sitting at 62-63Mh/s but every now and then I see it pop up to just about 70 Mh/s, maybe for 5-10 minutes before it goes back down to the low 60's.

I'm currently using lolMiner because there is no perceptible impact on my normal tasks, unlike Pheonix miner that was causing significant lag and stutters with typing input, window switching, etc. I also saw the same periodic hash rate jumps with Pheonix miner as well.

    https://imgur.com/a/zH07Bjr

I was curious if anyone had any thoughts why this was, from what I can tell I am normally getting pretty average results. I figure maybe I am interpreting the results wrong, or maybe there is some headroom left in the 6800 to get some better results?

Mining motherboard with PCI-e and molex connector, what are they used for?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 02:32 PM PST

I recently picked up a second hand colorful H81A BTC motherboard as the I had a second rig with a dead motherboard so I figured it was worth it to use the other components and maybe add a few gpus to. The board has a PCIE 12V connector and a molex connector above the top PCI-e slot. What are these used for? I can imagine its either to add extra power to the board when powering all of the PCI-e slots or its to take power from the board to power PCI-e risers? I tried plugging a fan into the molex and it worked so I presume the ports are putting out power.

Any help would be appreciated, right now I just have a single 5700xt on the board but planning on adding a few more with PCI-e risers next month.

    Tesla M40

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 01:42 PM PST

I have an old Tesla M40. It's based on the Maxwell architecture, so it suffers from all the problems the 980 and Titan cards do.

I've heard of people pushing the Titan cards into the teens in terms of Mh/s. I'm curious if anyone knows how that is done.

Best I can get it do is about 3 Mh/s. Would love to figure out how to get it higher. I have cheap power so low teens would be economical.

Or is there something other than Ethereum you would think to mine on this thing?
