Is there any reason NOT to mine? Posted: 21 Jan 2021 07:25 AM PST Searched this sub but didn't see this question asked before (surprisingly). Like the title says, is there any reason not to mine, assuming your energy costs are lower than projected earnings? I have a computer that I've built for gaming, which goes unused while I sleep. Is it a no-brainer to download nice hash and run it overnight on the thing? [link] [comments]

RTX 3080 not using full watts in HiveOS Posted: 21 Jan 2021 04:15 AM PST Hello, At my second day of crypto mining, my RTX 3080 stopped using all of the watts provided to it. I have set the power limit to 230, but for some reason it's using only 208 and the hashrate is only 86. When I reboot the system it's normal at first and then the hash rate and power consumption drops and stabilizes at that level. What could be the problem? I am using HiveOS. Parameters: Core -150 Mem 1800 PL 230 Fan 70% Ty! [link] [comments]
Hi guys, i am looking to upgrade my farm from 1070's to 3070's now. Queries in the Body Posted: 21 Jan 2021 04:01 AM PST Hi guys, i am looking to upgrade my farm from 1070's to 3070's - but as we all know the supply of cards is very very low.. i have been mining on Asus 1070 cards - and now i am getting mixed reviews on other AIB cards like colorful, Inno, Zotac, Gigabyte, Galax, and many others. Please share your Reviews on these companies. Also, if it's not allowed to ask such things here please point me to the right sub. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]
Posted: 21 Jan 2021 07:41 AM PST I am a small miner, when i do not game, i mine with my GPU on Linux The plan was to get a 6800xt, but seems like 3080 is way better at mining, should i get the 3080? or there are different coins where the 6800xt is better? [link] [comments]

MSI Radeon Rx 5700XT Gaming X Afterburner/Mining settings. Posted: 21 Jan 2021 02:10 AM PST Hello guys, this is barely my second post on the subject so please be kind. Im interested in starting the journey of mining, and after some info i found out that the card i bought for gaming is one of the best possible cards for mining as well! So i wanted to ask, what is the BEST possible settings in afterburner/radeon centre, and in general, so i get the highest hash speed WITHOUT altering my bios or hurting my machine in any way. I also want to preserve its life and not burn it, or make it die prematurely if i leave it non stop for mining, because after all im just some guy that chipped in to buy a new gpu and would be really bad for me if it failed, not a seasoned miner with a bunch of gpus and if one dies has no effect on me. Normally theres plenty guides out there but they all alter the bios, and i want to still use this machine for my browsing, chatting and gaming, and when im sleeping or working, since i never power it down just earn a little bit of revenue maybe. In the imgur post i attach my current results and settings, please guide me if youre in the know. One notable detail that i want to add is, that in afterburner some settings seem to not want to go on the values i set, and most importantly, for some very weird and upsetting reason, when i increase the memory clock at anything over 1750 My screens (dual -trial setup) start to flicker. Only when i go lower than that they stop. Do i have a bad faulty card, or why is that? Thank you for your time! [link] [comments]

Posted: 21 Jan 2021 05:42 AM PST Hello everyone, What аre your personal top cryptocurrencies to mine in the next 3-5 years? As Ethereum is going from PoW to PoS with Ethereum 2.0, what do you think is going to be an alternative to it? [link] [comments]
3080 + minebox12 = 6pin+8pin not enought power per card? Posted: 20 Jan 2021 11:48 PM PST So i just got a minebox12, https://mineshop.eu/mining-container-minebox/minebox12-all-in-one-12gpu-mining-rig-case/ and was thinking of trying to get at least some 3080 for it, the problem is that it only has 1 8pin + 1 6pin per strand comming out from the powerbrick, and most 3080 have 2x8pin on them. Now, doing the math and assuming you PL them it SHOULD work out. 6-pin = 75w 8-pin = 150w through motherboard = 75w 75+75+150=300w I would however really like to hear from someone who has or can do a test. i'm sure this can also behave differently between different manufacturers but it's at least a start. Worst case i'll fill it with 3060ti's sometime this year ;) [link] [comments]
Worth putting together a "base" to put together all my cards? Posted: 20 Jan 2021 10:33 PM PST So I have 2x gtx1080 and a 1660ti sitting in my house. Currently have 1x 1080 and the 1660ti mining in a Unraid VM as the system they are in is primarily used for Unraid. Thinking it may make sense to spend $75 or so on a older motherboard, dual core, and a stick of ram and move the two gpus out of the Unraid machine and onto a stand alone machine so they aren't in a VM and run at bare metal performance. Then, I could add my second 1080. Running 2x 1080 and the 1660ti. I also have a rtx3070 chugging along as well but that card is dedicated to my gaming machine. I let it mine when I'm not actively in a game and don't really have interest in moving it to a mining rig. Figured the combination of all 4 cards mining could pay off the initial investment of the bare metal base station relatively quickly if it all makes sense. Really have no interest in continuing to expand as this is more of a tinkering project then a full on mining venture. Thoughts? Edit: I originally thought about just getting a riser and trying to cram the 3rd card into my Unraid VM build. The problem is there are a few miners that just don't work in a VM and also for whatever reason the moment I load up ethlargement pill for my 1080, the VM crashes. I'd like to be able to use ethlargmentpill for my two 1080s. [link] [comments]
Help getting Ethminer running on AMD 6900xt Posted: 20 Jan 2021 09:27 PM PST I would like to do some mining with my gaming rig in the off hours, but am having a heck of a time getting the miner to work. I have downloaded and extracted ethminer-0.19.0-alpha, but can't get it to run. When I try to list devices (ethminer -U --list-devices) or (ethminer -G --list-devices), I get "Error: No usable mining devices found". Makes sense that the -U (cuda) doesn't work as that is Nvidia, but it doesn't even look like I have OpenCL on my windows10 machine (No OpenCL registry entry under Khronos folder), and no idea where to get it. Anyone have any suggestions? [link] [comments]

XFX RX590 FatBoy OC+ Can't get stable overclock\undervolt Posted: 20 Jan 2021 08:11 PM PST Ok like it says, XFX RX590 FatBoy OC+ Can't get stable overclock\undervolt. I tried the CFW with using the one click mod. This card has a dual BIOS so I have no problems with playing around with the BIOS. It has Micron memory timings. I've tried everything I can think of to get it stable with 30mh+ From around the web these settings should work 1500 Core (975mV) / Mem 2300 (950mV) 140 Watts Nope! be fat crash. I've tried other settings with AfterBurner, AMD Catalyst software. I'm using Phoenix Miner with Minerstat on Ethermine Pool. I've tried Linux and Windows OS making changes to the card. Can't get it stable. At stock BIOS and using AMD Catalyst set to Auto overclock and mode to Compute it gets. 27.9 down to 26.7 MH/s @ 164w! I can get it to undervolt to 140w but I can't overclock anything. I know this card should be able to get 33 MH/s+ at a much lower wattage. I just can't get it to be stable. So anyone suggest settings for any software or maybe a strap for the miner? TIA and be safe! [link] [comments]

Posted: 20 Jan 2021 04:20 PM PST Free electricity (solar panels) so i dont care much about the power usage. Should I get 6xRX580s for $250 each considering they're almost 4years old now but still have pretty decent hashrates. The hashrate per dollar seems to be the highest for this card but i'm worried about aftermarket prices and if Eth will stay high long enough to pay back for the cost [link] [comments] |
