    Ethereum 2.0

    Posted: 21 Jan 2021 02:02 PM PST

Excuse the noobish type question, but I can't seem to find information anywhere: When Ethereum 2.0 is officially available for trading, approximately what is it likely to "premiere" at per Eth2.0? Under a $1? A few dollars? What determines this? I'm assuming it obviously has something to do with the total amount that will ever be made and total amount "currently" in circulation as a percentage, but I can't find any information about this. Please excuse my extreme stupidity if my question is dumb!

Is pool staking worth it? What experience do you have with it?

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 09:20 PM PST

I have been considering building a separate computer or upgrading my desktop(it doesn't meet requirements) for the sole purpose of staking ethereum. Unfortunately I don't have 32 ethers to stake so it would have to be pool staking.

What experience do you have with staking in general? Is it worth it at this point in time, how has the ethereum 2.0 release affected things? I'm assuming the more ether you stake in the pool the more you make in return?

Is GRT (Graph Network) legit? Does it have potential or another scam?

    Posted: 21 Jan 2021 05:23 AM PST

    https://thegraph.com/blog/the-graph-network-launches-mainnet

Is GRT (Graph Network) legit? Does it have potential or another scam?

    Any thoughts appreciated.

    From the article:

"The Graph Network launched its mainnet, the first global and easily searchable index of blockchain data. It allows developers to easily search, find, publish and use the public data they need to build decentralized applications, without needing to rely on centralized servers and proprietary infrastructure. The Graph Network dramatically expands accessibility of decentralized applications through public and open APIs, called subgraphs that are used by hundreds of applications today.

It has taken three years of hard work from many dedicated teams to develop The Graph Network and build the community of Indexers, Curators and Delegators and subgraph developers."

    Understanding the L2 solutions

    Posted: 21 Jan 2021 01:22 PM PST

So from my perspective I've suddenly come to realize that several L2 solutions are pretty much mainnet ready for SOME of their functionality. I've tried some, and I have some questions. Hopefully you can help me figure some of this out! I've tried Loopring, xDai and Optimism.

Please do point out any misunderstandings I may have.

    • Why did so many L2 solutions seemingly get "mainnet ready" around the same time? Did I just not pay attention, or is it just a really close race?
    • For the ZK based L2s....
      • Whats the difference? Its ZK-rollups. What makes them different from one another?
      • Who makes the proof? Is this process decentralized?
      • Is it correct that the proofs are submitted onto L1, and that based on them I could, in theory, recreate all the merkle trees to prove my claim for some amount of assets?
    • For xDai...
      • It focuses around DAI, and from my understanding you bridge DAI, but otherwise you can pretty much do whatever you would do on mainnet. Why the choice of staying with DAI if it is compatible for all assets? Why not just bridge ETH, and then do L2 swaps for DAI?
      • Is it really just the mainnet with different "decentralization parameters"? Different consesus, but way way faster?

    Thanks for any help understanding!

SERIOUS QUESTION: How Do I Import Ethereum private key to a wallet without the QR code/how to fix mist white screen on windows 8.1?

    Posted: 21 Jan 2021 03:08 PM PST

Hey everyone, so i have a question and have been looking everywhere but cant seem to find an answer. I have seen people with similar issues relating to thei bitcoin, but no one seems to be dealing with eth.

So i pulled up my old laptop, and tried to open up my ethereum core/mist wallet but am met with a blank white screen. (Not allowed to add the image for some reason...)

However, i saved the private key in a text file and have access to the key and nemonic but without the qr code. I also have the keystore file but since im having issues opening the actual wallet, i cant even transfer it (drag and drop) into mist. I get an error saying please manually install geth 1.8.23 (which i did) but the screen remains blank. I even tried reinstalling the whole wallet altogether, but at this point i really would rather just use a web based wallet. Its going to take so much space and time to synchronize the blocks anyways.

So my question to you all is:

    1. Is there a way to fix the blank screen issue (On windows 8.1)

    2. Can i transfer my keystore to a usb and try installing the wallet on a different computer and then drag and drop the key store in there (or even to an online wallet such as blockchain or coinbase, etc.)

    3. Is there a wallet or app that i can use to transfer my ethereum directly by inputting the private key manually? (literally by typing in the private key address) I should also mention that there is a chance that there are seperate alt coins attached to this address, but i honestly am not sure since its over 3 years old.

That's essentially all, im so curious to see how much ether i have in this wallet and it's driving me nuts not being able to check!

Thanks and sorry for the long post!

    Staking rewards per year

    Posted: 21 Jan 2021 06:35 PM PST

I understand that based on how much eth is staked will determine the amount for the eth reward. But I'm curious as to whether once you stake it locks you into a certain reward or that every month your reward could be different based on the amount of eth staked.

Trying to Understand Ethereum 2.0 Issues and Risks

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 11:58 PM PST

I am trying to understand Ethereum 2.0 better at a high level. As I understand it (so far) the new protocol will use "staking" instead of proof of work. In staking, you put 32 ethereum into a validator, and you are either rewarded or punished with additional/fewer ethereum for your actions.

    Questions:

    1. What will happen eventually if they need N validators for the new network, but the available ethereum that want to participate in that scheme vastly exceeds the required number of validators? Will the new entrants be put into a queue? Will the network round-robin participation between every validator that wants to participate? Are such things even decided yet?
    2. If you want to participate as a validator on the new network, that effectively means you will be running your own server and will be constantly under hacking attacks trying to steal away your money? What are the main security threats you need to protect against?
    3. If you buy ETH today, are you fully guaranteed in having your money be portable to the new network? Do you need to run your ETH 1 coins through some process to officially convert them over to ETH 2, and is that process reversible?
    4. What would be the main arguments for and against starting to participate in ETH 2 today?
    5. Has the phase 0 started, and if not when will that happen? What is the projected timeframe for phase 1?
    6. ETH pricing surged under pretty high volumes starting around Jan 3, 2021. Is that in any way related to events around the ETH 2 implementation?

An Innovation in the Gas Rate Market / Burning Concept

In the current Ethereum system, new transactions need to be packaged by a miner to enter the next block. A higher gasPrice can also encourage miners to package transactions. A rational miner always wants to package the transaction that carries the largest transaction fee. During the peak period, the gas cost becomes unpredictable or even uncontrollable.

    EIP-1559 Ethereum Improvement Proposal

The proposal, first made by Vitalik in 2018, aims to reduce transaction fees by introducing fixed rates and a burning mechanism, thereby making the dynamics of the Ethereum blockchain fee more predictable and alleviating congestion.

    EIP-1559, a Predictable Market Rate

The basefee will dynamically adjust so that the total gas used in a single block approaches the limit of 10 million gas. Instead of going into miners' pockets, the basefee will be burned.

To incentivize miners to package transactions, users can also set Tip, a parameter of the maximum amount that users are willing to pay when a transaction is packaged into the block. In the end, miners will receive the tip.

The basefee does not fluctuate drastically on changes in network demand, and alleviates the inefficiency in the past "bidding" model (which is what the tip follows), making the gas fee more predictable.

    EIP-1559 Burning Mechanism

The burning mechanism promoted by EIP-1559 (the destruction of the basefee) establishes the dominance of ETH in the Ethereum ecosystem, provides a deflation mechanism for the supply of ETH, and makes tokens scarce and secured in the long run. All these will benefit ETH holders as a result.
