Never forget the dirty little secret of BTC: There is nothing BTC can do that BCH can't do better, faster, quicker, easier, cheaper, and more securely. (And we haven't even gotten into all the things BCH can do that BTC can't do at all.)

Created a New Subreddit Dedicated to Monitoring the Regulatory Space Surrounding Crypto -- for those Long-Term Hodlers.

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 09:48 PM PST

If anyone is interested, I started a new community where you can get (and I'm hesitant to use this word) centralized and concise information about the regulatory environment surrounding cryptocurrency.

Posts will contain only the summarized and professional commentary from the source linked therein. The requirement is that the source, inclusive of the event or proposal, be either from a government or major financial institution (it sucks, I know). But the goal is to stay away from opinion, speculation, and clickbait pieces, and this will allow cryptocurrency users to stay updated on real-time policy—and how it might affect their holdings. There will be absolutely no opinion or interpretation of the policy in the post. The comment section will be open for thoughtful discussion and questions to help clarify the language in the post.

Low-effort, opinionated, and overtly critical comments will be discarded. There will also be no political discussion.

For someone like me that has a large part of their savings in cryptocurrency, it is extremely important to stay educated and informed on this new developing space. With crypto's recent uptick in popularity and mainstream adoption, the number of organizations overseeing this space are growing, and their proposals are becoming lengthier and more complex. Thus, it's extremely important to have a community that follows their/this involvement.

(The subreddit is r/CryptoMonitor for those interested.)

Fake Bitcoin.com Youtube Account Trying to Scam

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 12:57 PM PST

Got a weird reply to an older Youtube comment attempting to get me to ask for their investing advice, from what I could tell from the fragmentary sentence of "For financial advice from me on crypto". Maybe they were trying to put a link in there too. Then I noticed they made the same reply to many comments.

The account is https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcky-gK0sR2Hl-nSiESnYnw/about and it was just created, and has no videos, but uses the same avatar and the similar name to try and trick people into thinking it's Bitcoin.com.

    Reminder, BitPay now sucks :(

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 12:20 PM PST

A bunch of sites I've used in the past to pay with BCH all of a sudden require my passport to pay with.

I don't care if BitPay was forced into this or not, is nonsense and if they can't let people pay without kyc they should have shut down.

Announcement: Mombasa - A BCH based price REST API server!

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 10:48 AM PST

Hey guys! I've been working on this for a while and I actually hit alpha just last night so I thought why not posting it?

Before starting, this is only for the good BCH chain, not the the one with the IFP shit.

    What is Mombasa?

Mombasa is a BCH based price REST API server for other Cryptos. (e.g. how many BCH is 1 LTC or ETH and how much that is in whatever fiat you want).

    Why Mombasa?

It is free. As in free beer. And open source (all links at the end).

    Why did I make this?

See, I started with with CashX some years ago and it didn't go as planned. And I thought: why don't I divide it into smaller pieces? And, well this is the first part, a REST API for getting converted prices for other cryptos and fiat.

This is only in alpha version and I need your help, guys. It's mainly aimed to devs that need price data (it does not offer historical data... yet) at any given moment, without them having to pay anything to be able to use it, not even needing an API Key or access token; but anyone can use it as it is free and easy to use. And it will remain free forever (as long as I can maintain a server with my income the main mombasa-api.live will be okay).

Right now it is pretty limited with the data it serves, but it will evolve into something better over time. This will be supported mainly by me, but anyone can contribute if they want. Also it is divided into three repositories, one for the main REST server, one for a crawler to populate the DB and one pretty special repo for the supported currencies.

Ah, did I mention that you can have your own Mombasa server as well? Yup, you can deploy it wherever you want to have your own local Mombasa!

    What currencies/cryptos/fiats are supported?

The main cryptos supported are BCH, BTC, ETH and LTC.

The main fiats supported are USD, MXN and EUR.

But the thing is anyone can add new currencies! It is automated so all Mombasa instances are updated with the same currencies, regardless if they are local or hosted in the cloud.

So if you need a currency to be supported, please go into the Mombasa Papers repo (links down below) and all instructions should be in the readme!

    Links

    Mombasa

    Mombasa Ambassador

    Mombasa Papers

    How to use

You can run it on your own or you can use rest.mombasa-api.live alongside the API Documentation in the Mombasa readme to start right away!
