(NOT RIPPLE) - SEC.gov | SEC Obtains Emergency Asset Freeze,

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 02:34 PM PST

    https://www.sec.gov/news/press-release/2020-341

I think it is fair to ask yourself why the SEC didn't filed an emergency action and obtained an order imposing an asset freeze and other emergency relief against Ripple.

The answer: Because they couldn't. Ripple has done nothing to violate securities law or the common law of the US.

    Ripple finances without XRP

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 05:51 PM PST

The SEC complaint makes it sound like Ripple relies on selling XRP to stay afloat. If Ripple has to stop selling XRP during the litigation, is the company at risk of failing while waiting for resolution of the lawsuit? Would this force them to take a settlement relatively soon, and if so, what kind of terms might they accept? Just trying to think through this...

Quick informational post for those worried about your XRP tokens on Coinbase

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 06:16 PM PST

Coinbase is just pausing trading. Your XRP won't go anywhere, you just won't be able to buy/sell more. You should still be able to send coins off the exchange even once trading has paused.

However, it's recommened to almost never keep your coins on an exchange as there's a rule of thumb in crypto: if you don't own the private key, you don't own the coins.

If you're using Coinbase Wallet you should own your private key, but if you're just keeping things in your portfolio on Coinbase (or any other exchange), you likely don't.

Coinbase Wallet is a decent enough wallet app, but currently XUMM is the most popular self-managed XRP wallets for mobile phones. Of course, a device such as Ledger is one of the best options to self-manage your cryptocurrency.

TLDR: Your coins are safe on Coinbase as an exchange, their pausing of activity does not put your holdings at risk. However, exchanges are not the best place to keep them, so it's recommended that you use this concern to explore better, self-managed options.

Op-Ed: The Lawsuit Against Ripple Has Less to Do With Goldman Sachs and More to Do With Trump

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 03:36 PM PST

One of the weirdest things about the recent SEC suit against Ripple is the timing of it. Even if you are in the camp that thinks XRP is a security, it doesn't make sense that the SEC has waited until the right before the SEC Chair Jay Clayton stepped down.

One of the most common timing theories is the history of Clayton representing big banks and his wife's prior job working for Goldman Sachs. While there is a certain amount of logic to this, especially if Clayton lands another job working for a firm who has a remittance project in the pipeline, I don't think it fully fits. There's just too much speculation.

I think it's much more likely that the action has to do with President Trump.

What I think a lot of people in the cryptocurrency space forget is that there are two Ripples: There's the Ripple that's the black sheep of the cryptocurrency space, but there's also the Ripple that's the darling of Silicon Valley, being at the center of both blockchain and FinTech startups, two very hot markets in the valley, which means it gets a lot of mainstream media attention.

It's also headed up by Brad Garlinghouse, a very vocal critic of Trump and supporter of Biden.

Now, I don't think that Trump knows much about Ripple or what it does, but I think he does care when somebody is publicly backing someone else. Garlinghouse's threats to relocate out of the country made the mainstream news, as did his walking back of the threat when Biden won the election.

The Trump administration has also had a pretty strong history of a no-holds-barred strategy when going after critics. And, in the past few weeks, this has been cranking up.

I think that there is a good chance that it was Garlinghouse's comments about Trump this fall that put him in line of fire. I also think that while the SEC was able to make a case, the outcome is very uncertain, with both the precedent set by FinCEN and the rulings already made about BTC and ETH, and a failure would look very badly on Clayton, so he waited until the last possible moment to instruct the suit to be filed, so that he could escape any negative fallout.

I'm not really a fan of tinfoil hat theories, but I think this fits the MO of both the administration and what else is happening in other parts of the executive branch.

Best place to exchange USDC for XRP

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 04:41 PM PST

It looks like soon I'll be locked out of everywhere I can trade xrp. I live in the us, in NY so I can only use bitstamp and coinbase, both of which will soon halt US trading. I'm looking for a way to continue buying and selling indirectly kyc free.

Some ppl say use binance with a vpn. Trying to avoid that,

I'm looking for a decent swap service from USDC to XRP since it's easy for me to exchange fiat to USDC

Any suggestions ? Considering quickex, the rate looks decent but I never heard of it before

    Thanks in advance

What's your thoughts on the YouTuber named The Bearable Bull?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 07:21 PM PST

To be honest, I only found this community through a YouTube related video that directed me to his channel. His arguments for Ripple and XRP seemed compelling. I bought into XRP right at the bull trap at 0.60. Small position only. Then the black swan SEC event happened and I'm down a few pennies :/ Is this guy delusional or are his Pro-Ripple arguments valid? I'm somewhat tempted to close out of my position in XRP and move my money elsewhere, but pro-Ripple arguments within this community tells me to HODL. I don't know what to do.

The small position that I have I can afford to lose.

So what's your thoughts on The Bearable Bull?

When will Ripple release all their XRPs?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 11:33 AM PST

I've been reading that Ripple owns 60% of the pre-mined XRPs. My question is when these XRPs will be released. I appreciate if there is official resources from Ripple (I looked and couldn't find any).
