Posted: 10 Dec 2020 07:26 AM PST Hey, I`m trying to build a mining rig right now and I don't know what video card I should get. I have to pick between a Sapphire RX 470 8gb Nitro+ at $112 and a Sapphire RX 580 8gb at $137. On NiceHash it said that I'm more profitable with the 470 one since it consumes less electricity overall. What are your guys thoughts? [link] [comments]
Hobby Mining on an old Dell Studio XPS 8100 Posted: 10 Dec 2020 08:17 AM PST I've got an old Dell Studio XPS 8100 just sitting in the closet. Was thinking of for setting it up as a hobby rig. I've got 2 (570's) I can install. Looking at the specs it has (2) PCIe slots. Though a pretty crappy power supply of only 350 watts. I know I can run at least 1- 570 no problems. For minimal expense can I buy say a PCI riser to use the other 570 and buy a 8 pin pci power adapter? I was planning on disconnecting all CDROM's and leaving just 1 hdd to squeeze as much power as I can. Again just a hobby and something to do. Is adding an extra video card possible giving the specs? • Gen2 x1 slot bi-directional speed — 500 MB/s • Gen2 x16 slot bi-directional speed — 16 GB/s PCI Express x1 two 36-pin connectors PCI Express x16 one 164-pin connecton [link] [comments]
Posted: 10 Dec 2020 07:40 AM PST First of all, I am aware of Rule #6 and am NOT selling my rig here :) I am getting ready to sell my 8 GPU rig (18 month old Geforce Auros 1080Ti Extreme 11gb, only used about 9 months though) and would like some advice on a few things.
Thank you for the help and advice! [link] [comments]

Mixing RTX 30 series and 20 series GPU in rig Posted: 10 Dec 2020 02:25 AM PST I know it's been asked if 1070's and 1080's can be mixed and AMD & Nvidia, but can cross-generational cards be mixed? In my case RTX 2070 Super with RTX 3060 TI? Will the drivers get mixed up? On Asrock h110 pro BTC + [link] [comments]

turning mining rig into space heater Posted: 09 Dec 2020 03:49 PM PST hi folks, I am attempting to kill two birds with one stone here. I have extra gear for a mining rig that I am planning to turn into a space heater. Electricity is cheap in my state and the mining rig is a smart use of the funds than a regular ole space heater. Are there resources on how to accomplish this using physical buttons, switches, timers, etc.? I want this space heater to work automatically for a non-techie in my household. Google search is returning crap about Nest and some other unhelpful stuff. Thanks ya'll. OTTER [link] [comments]
Is there any riser considered a fire hazard? Posted: 09 Dec 2020 03:40 PM PST I have 2 006c and 2 008s. Tree of them are connect by a single pcie cable (6pin using a spliter) and the other is connected by a single molex cable. The psu is a 1300w seasonic gold prime. Should i expect a fire anytime soon? Posted: 09 Dec 2020 11:34 AM PST Hey all! I'm thinking about adding a 5700xt rig alongside my 8 x 1080ti rig. I have plenty of amperage on my breaker to do it, but I can trip the circuit my 1080ti rig is on if I let it run at 100% power as it is. So...I'd need to have an electrician out to run more power. This seems like a great time to move to 240V. The PSUs on my 1080ti rig support it, and the server PSU I'm planning on using for the new rig should as well. If the electrician runs one 240 line and adds one outlet for me, I then need a PDU and some new PSU-to-PDU cabling to match, and I should be good power-wise, right? [link] [comments] |
