Similar to the last post, but I just bought 4.5 ETH. First time buying crypto!

I am a college student. I was getting frustrated seeing my money in savings increase a measly 40 cents/month, so I decided to buy some ETH. My stepdad convinced me to go for it. To the moon.

    Non fungible tokens

    Posted: 31 Dec 2020 12:33 PM PST

Alright. With Eth2 up on the pipeline. Let us all take a backseat and re-evaluate on how Nfts could better the whole ecosystem.

PLaces like Decentraland have been gaining heavy traffic lately. Nfts have been sold for millions(digital arts, i would just call it that nft ico.lol..) Theres a Vr platform within the nonfungible world. Plus a lot more. Havent seen elite defi soaked folks speak much about Erc721 standards. Would be nice to have them talk it out over here. Also everyone else. Do list your top 3 nft related projects which has fascinated/you are looking forward to.

When will ZK rollups be on mainnet?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2020 08:05 AM PST

I can't find any estimate as to when rollups are supposed to be released. Only that they are part of the next phase.

It's hard to see widespread ETH adoption in the real world unless we can get to 10k+ TPS.

    Ethereum Options for US Citizens?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2020 09:49 AM PST

Hey Guys, I was wondering if there was an exchange out there that offered options contracts on Ethereum that were available for US citizens? Every exchange I look at restricts access for me and I wonder if anyone has found a way around this? Thanks.

Could having to pay gas fees prevent mass adoption of ethereum?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2020 09:24 AM PST

I'm very new to this, but also very excited by the potential. My first experience has been with trying to mint some art work into NFTs.

My first impression is that just to "post" something on an ethereum dapp, I have to pay anywhere between $15 - $50.

These prices are just insane to do very small things, and the mass public would much rather do things on regular centralized apps if it means not having to pay.

My only experience is in making NFTs so maybe minting things is just expensive and I'm unaware of other things that can be done on ethereum.

Can anyone enlighten me on the situation?

    Unable to access wallet

    Posted: 31 Dec 2020 12:38 PM PST

I have tried to access my ethereum wallet to no avail.

I got a error message update geth node 1.8.23 so I downloaded the new geth and mew updates off github.

Same error, so I read into the help and after a while got into the %appdata% created a new unpacked file and added a copy of the 2 files from the zip into the unpacked folder.

That got me past the error message but now all I see is a loading screen on my wallet, i cant acess anything aide from the tabs at the top.

The JSON files are all still on the computer I cant seem to find where I wrote down my private keys. All i have is a "password" that the wallet had me make and the wallets address.

I can see on etherscan my coins are still in there I just cant get into the account.

Am I shit outa luck ?

Anatomy of a sim swap attack: Fast response time, hackers had only 1 hour with my phone

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 09:08 PM PST

Anatomy of a Sim Swap attack of an Iphone X.

NOTE: my info was leaked in ledger hack.

Unbeknownst to me, at 5:30pm today someone walked into a Tmobile store, claiming my identity and swapped my sim. At 5:45pm I noticed my texts were not sending. I had no phone calling ability. Other house mobile phones worked. Wifi internet on my phone worked. I see an alert on my chase account of a credit inquiry at Macy's Department store minutes later. At that point I knew it was a sim card swap attack. I called Tmobile. Recording says, "1 hour wait." I leave my wifes number for them to call back. I race over to the Tmobile store 5 minutes away and plead my case. "Stop the phone access." They research and see that the swap happened at a store but can't say which one. They call into Tmobile to figure out next steps. While we are waiting, I get the call back from Tmobile corporate. They agree it is a fraud case and they switch the sim back to my phone, I regain access within 1 hour or so since the swap occurred. I agreed to switch phone numbers being that I was hacked once already, I will likely continue to be a target due to the ledger hack. By this time I am checking all my crypto accounts and gmail.

I had AUTHENTICATOR 2FA: on everything except for binance, cash app(luckily tied to a DIFFERENT phone number), breez.

No evidence of entry to my gmail account. No evidence of entry to binance or other accounts.

So far only fraud is Macy's Department store credit.

Tmobile says they will follow up and have fully logged this as a fraud/identity theft. I called Chase credit monitoring and have a case open on the Macy's credit inquiry.

I will update if hackers were able to access anything else of my accounts/crypto in that 1 hour time span.

THANK YOU all previous people who have told your story about these attacks. Hopefully my quick recognition and intervention saved me some $$. Nevertheless there was very little crypto they had access to because almost all big accounts have authenticator 2FA (no sms 2fa).

IF YOUR PHONE STOPS WORKING, but wifi works etc. First response should be to confirm it is a sim swap attack.

Question: Is my iphone metamask ethereum account threatened still somehow? I see no unrecognized transactions. Was it threatened at all during the sim swap?

Mitigating risk of hosted node for ETH 2.0 staking. - can I migrated nodes in the (unlikely) case a hosted node provider goes down or is malicious? It seems like non-custodial hosted nodes are an easy way to stake without the hassle of hardware maintenance but can I mitigate for this?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2020 03:23 PM PST

It seems like the easiest way to do so is with a non-custodial hosted node through a provider like allnodes.com

I understand the risk is that they might slash or have downtime. In the event that this is happening, since the node is non-custodial, am I able to migrate to a self-hosted node if I hold the private keys and the original deposit files

If you need more clarity on the question, let me know but figured since this community is fairly technical I might get a good answer or spur decent discussion.

I'm searching some search engine that could find users who have certain tokens, like users who have link, uni and aave for example, is it possible? For now, I know I can find users that have one of them, but how to find users that have all 3 tokens?
