long story short, i had to make payments via zelle to a person in USA, and the intermediary was only accepting BTC .

to move a 100USD transaction, i had to first pay 9USD fees for binance withdrawl and then another 6 USD for escrow funding in localcrypto.com

i have no idea how ppl do business on BTC .

Ya’ll weren’t kidding about the corrupt moderators over at r/Bitcoin

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 04:34 PM PST

Just had a moderator explain to me that every other crypto project is a scam run by malicious actors. All I did was mention Coinbase EARN to someone literally begging for advice on how to get $100 for their family's Christmas. Aside from selling all my BTC for BCH, what can be done? I tried to post a super polite thread asking for user input on the governance system of r/Bitcoin but they deleted my thread after 4 upvotes and without even a flag warning. I feel gross for having propped up that sub, major remorse. So seriously, despite the things that people say about r/btc I just can't think of a better place to ask this. What does a BTC / BCH HODLer do?

Just an FYI, I wasn't banned or penalized in any way beyond what I've specifically described. Not looking for "revenge" or an emotional vent, just genuine constructive input or funny trolls

Update: Thank you all for welcoming me. Please note that I'm genuinely seeking advice on how to massage some of the dogma out of r/Bitcoin. Any thoughts you have in this matter are appreciated

[Feature Req] In the last 2 years, BCH is the only crypto I have used for payments (like VPN, cross border payments, microdonations etc), in fact everytime I see a crypto payment option, I fire up my wallet, check the fee on BTC, then switch back to BCH for payment. Thanks /r/btc Community!

Here's a proposal, I wouldn't mind paying X% of my transaction to be sent to the dev pool with every transaction. BTC costing $3.5 for a $10 transaction (to use an example). Less than a penny fee is absolutely amazing in comparison, but I can easily send $0.10 to the dev fund for the development for that tx (i.e 1%).

This functionality however is better suited to be built into the wallet (and be configurable).

Considering our blocks are still pretty empty, is there any other technical or economical consideration which prevents this from happening?

To people holding BTC on exchange, because moving is too expensive: Is a promise of a Lambo just as good as a Lambo standing in your garage right now?

    Posted: 02 Dec 2020 02:05 AM PST

...because that is what BTCs held at an exchange really is - a promise that they will pay you an agreed upon amount of coins.

In case anything happens (and stuff does happen in crypto all the time), you're done and your BTC is gone.

Is it technically possible to wrap other cryptocurrencies (like BTC) in a BCH smart contract represented by a token?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 03:20 PM PST

The amount of BTC wrapped in ethereum (WBTC) got me thinking, would it be possible to create something like that on bch?

The way that I understand wbtc, is that while its verifiable, it's not trustless, because of the governance model.

And my understanding is that it would also be (technically speaking) trivial to make a company and promise to hold BTC and create a SLP for people to transact with on the BCH ecosystem.

My question is: would it be technically possible (through cryptography) to wrap/lock BTC (or other Cryptos) in a BCH smart contract in a permisionless, verifiable and trustless way?

Where does Coinex get it's BCHA value from?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 10:09 PM PST

I have a some BCHA that split off from a little BCH that I transferred to Coinex.

As I write this, Coinex says the amount I have is valued at about $15 dollars per BCHA.

But, with all the craziness surrounding BCHA, and considering it can't be moved or traded, how would they be arriving at that number?

(Please note, since this whole BCHA situation seems to provoke strong emotions just by even mentioning it, I'm not taking any particular stand, I'm just fascinated by the "spawn camp attack" and hope to learn from it.)
