Etheruem 2.0: A few things to clarify

    Posted: 18 Nov 2020 05:00 PM PST

    1. This will facilitate faster transactions and result in cheaper fees for transactions? from 15 a second to what?

    2. Will all erc-20 tokens benefit from these faster speeds? If so what happens to projects like omisego that was supposed to make ethereum transactions faster and cheaper.

    3. DeFi has boomed under Ethereum. Will it expand or contract with Etheruem 2.0.

    4. Will ethereum 2.0 allow for stable coins to make payments instantly at checkout lines or will the delay still be awkward? Could it allow for companies to step up and create payment hardware to compete with Visa/Mastercard?

    5. What happens to POW. Do they continue, but receive less rewards or are they expecting to migrate to other POW projects. Whats the consensus?

    Thanks

Why does USDT often offer higher interest rates than other stable coins?

    Posted: 18 Nov 2020 05:47 PM PST

For example, Aave offers 6.75% for USDT and 2.77% for USDC. What justifies this spread? Shouldn't they functionally be the same thing?

You could argue USDT is less secure so fewer people lend it, but then why would the borrowers want to borrow a more expensive, less secure currency?

    Question about contract addresses

    Posted: 18 Nov 2020 12:58 PM PST

Question: If ERC-20 tokens are sent to a different ERC-20 token contract address, are the managers of that contract address able to return the tokens?
For example: If I send REN to the OM contract address by accident when trying to exchange REN for OM, is the Mantra DAO team technically able to send the REN back to my address or is it stuck at the contract address forever? Asking for a friend who was told by the DAO team that they tried really hard to send it back, but it just wasn't possible.

Universal IDE to query blockchain data

    Posted: 18 Nov 2020 01:36 PM PST

Hey Guys, we are building the Bitquery Editor to help developers to provide a universal IDE to query blockchain data easily.

IDE is open source, and to support the project, we have created a Gitcoin grant, check it out and support us.

Completely forgot how to access my ETH coins. Please help...

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 10:42 PM PST

    Hi Everyone,

I bought some ETH tokens back in 2017 on Coinbase and then decided to move it to a wallet? at the advise of my friend. It seems like I overcomplicated things for myself since retrieving them has become a mystery for me after 3 years...I think I remember using one or a combination these: MetaMask and MyEtherWallet.com

    Here's what I still have:

Printout of something from MyEtherWallet.com which has two QR codes (my address and private key), as well as those two things in alphanumeric form.

I also saved a text file on my computer called MetaM.txt, which contains a series of 12 words, a string of 42 numbers/letters.

A file with a weirdass name (starts with UTC) and weird extension. I think this is the JSON file I saw someone mention in another post and that I shouldnt open it. (Unfortunately, I already did... didnt alter the file so not sure if that messed anything up)

I tried fumbling my way around the MetaMask addin and MyEtherWallet.com to recover my wallet/tokens but havent had any luck... either said wrong key or JSON or when something did look like it worked the amount of ETH says zero... so either my tokens got jacked somehow during that time or I'm doing something wrong. Can someone please point me in the right direction?

    Thanks in advance,

Easy setup of an ETH 2.0 staking node

    Posted: 18 Nov 2020 12:24 PM PST

There are probably already some solutions to facilitate the setup of a staking node from scratch, so here is another one. Hopefully it helps to onboard more stakers during the testing phase.

For those who want to get a feeling for how it is to operate a staking node in a testnet right now, if you are a bit familiar with ansible, feel free to use and abuse this ansible role:

You can see it as an installer that automates manual steps to provision a server.

For the default scenario it is enough to have docker and molecule installed to run your node locally in a containerized environment.

The role can of course also be used to target a remote node for provisioning.

Thanks to /u/SomerEsat for the great guide on how to set things up, and also thanks to all the others involved in making staking on the testnet such a good experience.

    Mintable redesigned ERC-721 for NFT

    Posted: 18 Nov 2020 08:46 AM PST

Minting NFTs one by one is cumbersome and inefficient since it requires lots of computational power and thus higher gas costs occur. If you wish to batch mint NFTs on other platforms, the gas fees will be insanely high.
Mintable.app redesigned the ERC721 to introduce largest batch minting ever. 1,000 NFTs for your project/followers? Don't want to spend $10,000 in transaction fees doing it? How about 2,000 in a single transaction? Yes, yes you can with Mintable. After getting a grant from the Ethereum Foundation, they redesigned the ERC-721 standard to improve its optimization and allow for larger batch minting amounts. This new ERC-721 style can batch mint up to 2,000 NFTs in a single transaction, each completely unique, and 100% ERC-721 compatible (meaning they work on every marketplace, every wallet, every dapp automatically).
p.s These contracts will be open sourced for everyone to enjoy as well. WOOHOOOOOOO
