A new voting system for ERC20 tokens using Vocdoni Open Stack

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 09:25 AM PDT

    Hello!

We present a proposal to use our universally verifiable & anonymous governance layer to vote using ERC20 tokens that will bring a big shift in the governance of all types of DeFi projects.

With the increasing interest in token-based governance, we come up with a proposal that is

    • E2E verifiable, purpose-specific blockchain for votes
    • Decentralized
    • FLOSS
    • Flexible (including Quadratic voting)
    • Extremely Cheap
    • Potentially anonymous (zk-SNARKs)

We'll love to share it with the community and start a discussion about this project. Join our Community Call next Tuesday 6th October, at 17h (Spanish time) @ our Discord Server.

Pseudonym Pairs test net v2 published on GitHub

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 05:34 PM PDT

    The link to Github: https://github.com/0xAnonymous/pseudonympairs.tech/blob/master/Polytopia.sol.

    It adds mostly 2 things.

    1. what I call "majority vote random number Oracle". I thought it solved random number generation pretty well. It lets the whole population vote for a random number, the whole population becomes the "Oracle". Seems like it is pretty secure. Threads about it here on Reddit here and here.

and 2) there is a major attack vector mentioned by /u/pontifier (link) (link). I'd thought of it before, I think, but, now added a defense to it that I think seemed like the best one. This complicates the protocol a little bit, but it is really secure. I wrote about that here and also in other places like here.

Also 3) all randomization is changed to use the seed provided by the majority vote Oracle. I had improvised a "continuous fisher-yates shuffle" before, but, now I separated it into two phases, like most people probably would.

Sharing if anyone is interested. Test net will now upgrade to this. The current test net that is the one that will be replaced by this new version is here with source code published here also.

    /Johan

Hypothetically Speaking - The Dao Hack

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 01:37 PM PDT

Hi guys, don't wanna get my hopes up cause is not clear to me yet how the whole ETH "rollback" after the infamous Dao disaster went down back in 2016, but i remember i participated, got my dao tokens and sent them to Poloniex, after the news of the hack I panic sold those tokens, owned my loss and moved on, completely, meaning i didnt even looked back, fast-forward 2021 watching some crypto documentary i found out ethereum did a "rollback" back in 2016, so.. And this is why the "hypothetically" comes in play, so hypothetically speaking, in the very unlikely case in which by some miracle I manage to find the wallet keys from which i sent those ETH to the DAO, do I still have those ETH or not? from what i was able to find, seems the rollback was undo the dao's hack, but is still unclear what happened from there on, did the dao returned the ETH to their respective funding addresses? if you had to send those Dao tokens to some contract i guess i moved on for a reason, anyhow, i know its a long, long, really long shot, I just want to put this thing in my head to rest and move on once again. Thanks for your help.

Can I stack on a low spec device like a NAS?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 05:03 AM PDT

I'm Will to try stacking, with test net first, but I'm sure where to run the validator. I have a NAS (Synology, an old model) running 24:7, it would be ideal to run on it to stay online and don't add another power consumer on my setup. Is it possible? Is it a good idea? Which client is better for this use case?

My other option is to run Nimbus on a Nvidia Shield Android TV box, it's running 24:7 as well but I must VR sure that it doesn't aloe down the machine.
