Two minute elevator pitch for Ethereum

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 07:57 AM PDT

I'm trying to come up with a 2 minute elevator pitch for Ethereum. As more and more people start hearing about Ethereum it's important that they get an overall idea so that they can at least make some what of an educated decision on whether this space interests them or not.

What I am looking for is a high level definition and then some real world tangible examples.

    Here is my go -

The big idea of ethereum is smart contracts. Essentially, you have an account and another party also has an account. But the account is whats called a smart contract. It is open source code which can be verified by anyone.

If you send 1 eth to the contract, then, the contract will execute some instruction.

This is a 10000 foot view but you can imagine the following applications: Banking - I send 10 eth and I get $1000 (basic loan without a bank). Your 10 eth is locked as collateral.

Insurance - smart contracts are connected to the real world so, if there is a hurricane in Miami, then, the smart contracts will execute and automatically pay out people.

You remember all those lovely bailouts?? Imagine if you had smart contracts tied with the real world with automatic payouts to different corporations and since everything is recorded in the blockchain, you can see exactly where the money goes and how it's being used.

Number of known states for Ethereum node

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 10:02 AM PDT

    Hello there,

I am running a fast-sync and it has been going for a while... The blocks are synced, but now it is pulling states. Anyone know what the actual number is for known states that has to be reached? I am currently around 5720000000, and wonder how much more I will have to have to wait for the sync to be finalized :)

Any website where this information can be found, or anyone who just finished syncing a node that can give me an approximate answer?! :)

Need help with my decentralized business model for a uni assignment!!

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 09:15 AM PDT

    Good evening blockchain community!!:))
I'm working on a uni assignment currently which I need to adjust a centralized business model for. The idea is to turn it into a decentralized business model (including Blockchain, social contract, distributed servers, etc.) that the company the creatives (DJ), and preferably all the other stakeholders benefit from.
I already set up a plan but according to our tutor, we need to add feedback from experts.

Hence, if there is an expert here in this group that is willing to have a glimpse at my business model I would be very grateful!!

A picture of the business model is attached above. Thanks in advance

    On Network Fees

    On Network Fees

    context:

So, I only started fooling with cryptocurrency nine months ago. I am one of the "find an interest and let it consume you"-types.

One move from Brave Browser to the native crypto educated me on the understanding of ETH as gas in all pair swaps and movement on the BC in any form for that matter.

The UNI drop made me recall that 44 BAT trapped in that wallet, and I am happy to say that I was am a recipient of the drop as UniSwap user to only have ever had "failed transactions."

For dress rehearsal, I thought I would attempt to move the 44 BAT before claiming UNI. However, I would need to obtain some ETH, and so I attempted such via Wyre in the Crypto Wallet, MetaMask variant that held the 44 BAT.

    This is not innovation.

Is this the origin of yield farming earnings? Even ignoring the Wyre fee, the fee is 10.8%. That's not innovation. This is upsetting, because I initially understood that 95% of players haven't a clue, but now feel that the other 5% are orchestral crooks--brilliant...just crooked a bit.

    That's my 0.00024 ETH, anyway.

Edit: I said 10.8%, but $2.99~3/20=.15*100, 15% would be the network fee !!!
