If PayPal represents the future of crypto, then the future is stupid Posted: 21 Oct 2020 09:56 AM PDT Regarding the PayPal announcement, let's be clear: PayPal is not selling or letting anyone use crypto. They are selling and letting people use numbers on a spreadsheet somewhere that are pegged to the prices of those cryptos. This announcement discourages me. I suspect this is a preview of what will probably end up being more and more popular. An increasing amount of walled gardens of "crypto" will spring up, tightly restricting how, when, and where people can use their fake crypto. People will end up completely disconnected from the real thing, never actually having their own private keys. I can see a possible future where BTC becomes the de facto world currency despite its completely crippled state. PayPal and other companies will simply let people think they are using Bitcoin when they're really not, and then use the blockchain as a settlement layer. And then we're right back in a central bank dystopia. Maybe I'm just being a little dramatic. Am I wrong to despair? Are there market forces that will prevent the scenario I have imagined? What do you think? [link] [comments]

Your experience with LocalCoinSwap? Posted: 22 Oct 2020 12:40 AM PDT I don't want to start to use LocalBitcoins because it requires extensive KYC. Whereas LocalCoinSwap doesn't and for me it's a plus. I haven't used any of them for a real deal, I only signed up, recenlty, and also have been gathering information. I receive payments, sometimes, in crypto. What I need for now is an easy and expensive way to sell crypto and receive fiat in exchange to my bank accounts. Do you recommend LocalCoinSwap? How is Lightning Network going? Posted: 21 Oct 2020 04:28 PM PDT Hi all, I've been away from the BTC scene for a while. I didn't like how you needed to pay fees to get on and off LN, and also that you don't hold your private keys on the BTC blockchain. Is LN getting bigger with widespread acceptance? I'm just not seeing any MSM news articles about it. Thanks. [link] [comments]
