How to Instal Hive OS on your mining rigs

    Power Management

    Posted: 31 Aug 2020 06:56 AM PDT

    Power Management

I've just finished building a 6 GPU rig (all 1070's), and I'm already running into issues with power management. My Kill-o-Watt is shipped, but in the meantime here's my back of napkin math:

Estimating (somewhat high on all accounts for safety margin) 125w per card, plus 250w for the rest of the system (that latter part should be a wide safety margin) 6x125 + 250 = 1000 1000 / 120 = 8.3a

8.3a is already over half of the current draw I can put on the standard 15a breaker in my house. That circuit is also shared with a couple of servers in that rack:

    Estimating my poweredge 720 average draw ~350W 350 / 120 = 2.9a For the custom server, estimating ~10w per 7.2K HDD plus 250w for the rest of the system again gives 14*10+250 = 390w, round up to 400w. This isn't max draw, but operating. 400 / 120 = 3.3a

    8.3 + 2.9 + 3.3 = 14.5a !

I've popped my 15a breaker once already just plugging my laptop in to the dock in that room to charge. I could split up my servers and my mining rig onto different circuits and solve my immediate power problems, but how are people operating sets of rigs with 4 or 5 times the number of GPUs I have out of their houses?

I've been looking into options for additional cooling in this room, but there's no way I could add anything else to the circuit, so that presents a problem as well. What clever power setups are you guys running out there to deal with the current demands of your mining rigs?

ETC moving to SHA-3, implications for other coins?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 09:55 PM PDT

Hi everyone, I was just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on Ethereum Classic changing algos to SHA-3. Will coins like Raven and ETH see a large increase in GPU hashrate? And therefore increased difficulty spike?

Would love to know people's thoughts

What profit calculator is the most accurate?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 11:49 AM PDT

I'm looking specifically at ETH but curious what people think in general too. I've used whattomine and noticed that sometimes ETH profitability is higher compared to other calculators.

1070 ti claymore strap / sintensity settings

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 01:49 PM PDT

wanted to compare to anyone else using 1070ti's to see what kind of stability they have and comparable hashrates.

i'm using asus strix a8g 1070 ti's and get around 34mhs with 60 power, 1670 core, 4400 memory using strap 1. (micron memory sadly)

haven't really noticed any difference changing -sintensity in terms of stability. noticeable hashrate change of course.

Error during benchmark & Underperforming GPU’s

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 10:23 AM PDT

Hi everyone, I have quite a few 470 8GB's but only about half of them will run Phoenix/DaggerHashimito. The other half are mining lolminer — showing "error during benchmark" for Phoenix on some GPU's, or some were benchmarked as less profitable than lolminer (even though most GPU's running Phoenix produce 2X more than lolminer). Occasionally I will see them running Phoenix but only making about the same as lolminer. Some are also overheating easily, even after replacing thermal paste.

Does this have something to do with the wear on those GPU's? Any advice? Thanks!

Still having trouble with new rig

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 10:06 AM PDT

HI all. I have continually been trying to find a difinative install and mining "how to" but am so far unable.

I got my new rig that runs AMD 580's. I have downloaded claymore but for some reason it doesn't start up or run. I found a few different instructions that talk about a batch file that you need to create and add in a line of code, but then I don't really understand if that code has to be manipulated or changed to reflect some settings for my rig/wallet.

So if anyone out there who has more knowledge than me would be kind enough to point me to a 'how to' that helps complete newbies to learning to mine, that would be great.

I am currently looking into mining Ether and Ravencoin, both of which I am told need to be mined in a pool to be profitable.

Thanks again, you guys have been so helpful early on for me.

    ghost.
