The ongoing problems of the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting economic meltdowns have accelerated the process of banks losing trust. Many organizations are now turning to cryptocurrencies as a new solution

Change My View: Nano is extremely centralized and not a viable cryptocurrency.

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 10:38 AM PDT

I don't know a whole lot about Nano, which is why I'm asking you to change my view. I want to believe in instant, fee-less transactions with 0 inflation, but the problems seem to outweigh the benefits.

Just 11 accounts own over one-third of the Nano stake, and two accounts have a third of the stake delegated to them. (source)

This small group of people has no incentive to be honest. This supposedly decentralized network relies on just a few people to act in the best interests of the network with no incentive not to do the opposite.

I don't think that a crypto should have to rely on people doing the right thing for it to work. Gold doesn't rely on people to do the right thing. Bitcoin doesn't rely on people to do the right thing (with the exception of 51% attacks, which at this point are practically impossible). A currency should be absolute, not dependent on a regulatory body (especially not one this small). I just can't see a system like this working on a large scale.

    Change my view.

Ignoring price and "store of value", which coins have actual utility?

    Posted: 23 Aug 2020 03:01 AM PDT

Are there any cryptocurrencies that have more utility than a visa card? Can they do things you can't do otherwise, or can't do easily otherwise?
Bitcoin is terrible as a currency - slower, easier for the government to track, more expensive transactions than USD. What coins actually do something other than be a vehicle for speculation?

Matic calls dapps developers to 'build and Earn'

Build-n-Earn is a funding program championed by Matic, in collaboration with Gitcoin, to enable developers to create innovative DApps on Matic Network by assisting them with regular monthly grants and dedicated marketing support. The program has gained huge traction within the developer community, with over 31 projects currently registered for Build-n-Earn!

Aside from technical support, market promotions and valuable user feedback, Build-n-Earn allows developers to receive a monthly funding allocation from a total pool of $50,000 per month provided by the Matic Foundation. 30% of the reward pool ($15,000) will go into a public Gitcoin CLR matching pool.

This allows community members to show their support for their favorite projects, thereby driving the creation of DApps which the community wants to use and recommend to others.

The first round of voting will run from August 31st to September 14th.

Newer to Crypto - Need Some Help

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 04:25 PM PDT

A bit of backstory: Like the title says, I am newer to crypto and recently started investing at the beginning of this month. I started by researching for about 3-4 months prior to decide what I was going to buy, then went on my journey. I downloaded Coinbase, bought a ledger nano x, and bought Bitcoin and Algo. I soon realized there are other coins I wanted to buy (Cradano, Tron) but I couldn't. I'd like to think I've learned quite a bit about the market, but I have a long way to go for learning! I have a few questions!

    1) What are the safest exchanges outside of Coinbase where I could buy other alt coins like Cardano and Tron?

    2) Are there other alt-coins that I should be look at?

    3) What are some of the best places for the most up to date content and good information(Podcasts, Videos, Twitter accounts, etc.)?

I have loved being a part of crypto and can't wait to continue the journey! I appreciate any help given.

Where can i buy alt coins in New York?

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 08:34 PM PDT

I want to buy some alt coins that are in top 50 of coinmarketcap. It seems like Coinbase only have a selected few coins and so does Gemini. Are there any other exchanges that operate in New York with bit license that allows to trade many different alt coins? I did some googling and Bittrex seems like another option but i'm confused because i get a message saying that they don't operate in my area. Should i try it on a different computer? Any insights would be appreciated.

TLDR: Where can i buy alt coins in NY other than CB and Gemini. Thanks.
