- Right, got it. ASERT definitely does look clever and cool. As I said I don't actually think the difference between ASERT and, say, ethereum DAA or any competent algo matters much, but if ASERT is already the dominant candidate then seems like common sense to just deploy it.

Is Bitcoin our last hope against an Orwellian future? Posted: 04 Aug 2020 03:56 PM PDT Tech monopolies track & control nearly all of our data, privacy is an afterthought, the government has full control over our bank accounts, etc. The disintermediation provided by decentralized tech is the only way I see self sovereign power returning to the individual - anyone else feel this way? This is giving me the urge to drop off the grid & live solely off my ledger lol Just found this community from NewGenesis's newsletter (check it out, an anonymous collective in crypto protesting the status quo), so apologies if this post is in the incorrect format. Posted: 04 Aug 2020 11:11 AM PDT In order to properly value and understand the importance of protocol changes at this early stage in Bitcoin Cash, you need to keep the correct perspective in mind:
This protocol isn't just being developed for the next pump or for something five or ten years from now. Bitcoin Cash needs to work on a multi-decade, multi-generational time-frame. Updates should start to be less frequent as the protocol matures. To get these implementation points right is to prevent the need of fixing them in the future.
What we do now is critical.
Temporary developer funding needs and youth-driven egos are outweighed by the gravity of what we need to build: decentralized peer-to-peer electronic cash for every human on planet earth. This includes the rich, the poor, black, white, red, and every shade in-between. This needs to work for everyone, at scale, over a very long time period.
When you take a selfless long-term perspective, it's clear that miners need to switch away from ABC immediately. This is a short term threat and there will be many others, but for now the action to take is clear.
Removing ABC is just as likely to make the price rise as any other protocol change due to increased confidence this would give the community.
I humbly ask that someone in the Chinese community translate this and re-post in those forums. [link] [comments]

Posted: 04 Aug 2020 10:43 AM PDT Amaury: "If you are Intel and you can make the Linux kernel 10% slower on Arm CPUs for instance, like just 10% slower, we're talking 100s of millions of dollars, if not billions of impact in the CPU market." Grasberg aims to create 12.5% slower blocks on Bitcoin Cash for the next 6.5 years (11 minute and 15 second blocks). [link] [comments]

Posted: 04 Aug 2020 10:33 AM PDT I've been following closely the DAA historical drift debate, and I recently proposed a solution as a potential compromise to be considered by the dev teams and the community. I made this post about it here: A possible compromise on the DAA drift debate In that post I suggest Amaury's reasons for including the drift correction is based more on philosophical reasons rather than technical reasons. Another community member suggested it was it was primarily for political reasons, and I thought that was an interesting take so I want to pose the question here to spark discussion and debate. Of course if Amaury wants to comment publicly on his intentions that would be ideal rather than leaving everyone to speculate. Here's my quick breakdown. Technical Reasons: I watched the entire second dev meeting in the hopes of hearing Amaury's technical reasons for including the drift correction. I didn't hear any compelling technical reasons mentioned which was also pointed out by Josh E. and others in that meeting. This why they held their stance that they don't believe it should be included in the new DAA. I asked Amaury in telegram directly about what the technical reasons were and his answers to me sounded more philosophical than technical. Philosophical Reasons: When the drift correction issue was first brought up in the telegram work group on July 12th here were some of Amaury's first comments on it. "If you decide on the future coin emission, and your decision is anything else but the original plan, then you put yourself as the central banker of BCH." "This discussion is unavoidable if we are putting drift on the table." "Attempting to correct drift without considering past drift is setting a new schedule for coin emission. That's a big no for me." When I asked him directly what the benefit of correcting the drift is, he said this. "Correcting the drift improves the hard money properties of BCH" So essentially that is his position in a nutshell. To me it's clear these are strong philosophical convictions that he holds which is why he's been so unwilling to budge from his stance. I think this is a big topic that should be addressed and debated on a larger scale within the community before being decided upon and added into the protocol. Amaury has made up his mind already, but we need to understand his reasons. We also need to hear out all of the counter arguments that can be made because I can think of several off the top of my head that also make sense. I don't think it's cut and dry, and I'd like to see the discussion fleshed out fully and all sides heard before a final decision is made. Political Reasons: The other possibility that I can't ignore is that maybe the supposed philosophical reasons are really just a smokescreen for the deeper political reasons ABC has chosen to proceed with the Grasberg DAA. The theory is that ABC wants to maintain total control over the BCH protocol and will minimize or shut out any other devs who try to make protocol level changes. I personally don't want to believe this to be true because I don't want to assume bad intentions, but I can see how this argument can be made - especially when Amaury's position on including drift correction [link] [comments]
