It's true. Elon Musk can change the supply of gold, but can't change the supply of Bitcoin.

What is the real case for $50k+ Bitcoin? And why is it not equally possible that price discovery tops out at $20-$25k?

    Posted: 14 Aug 2020 02:11 AM PDT

Once BTC hits a certain value, it's a mental barrier to new entry or for HODLers to buy more. BTC can't just split 5-1 like Tesla to fool people into thinking it's cheaper. I'm looking forward to reading some well-thought out comments outside the "scarcity bro!" argument. Happy HODLing y'all!

If you told me 2 years ago that JP Morgan, whose CEO Jamie Dimon called Bitcoin a fraud, would be investing $20M in a crypto company-- I'd call bullshit. Yet, this is what's happening.

Fed says it is developing an experimental digital currency

Carefully consider the magic wand of the Fed before you sell on a spike

    Posted: 13 Aug 2020 05:53 PM PDT

Let's say we get a spike, great.

In fact, let's say it jumps back to 20K, make it 30K. And you sell.

Literally the next day the Fed can DEVALUE the dollar by 50% with a mouse click. And I can assure you they will.

That 20K is now 10K and your bitcoin is GONE. Moreover, you're on the IRS hook for the profit taken before the devaluation. You're double screwed. My advice is ride out the coming spikes, devaluations and hyperinflation - don't get cute because you're not psychic and the Fed has their own agenda.

    Buena suerte.

Is BIP39 less secure than a completely random private key (created with some dice for instance)?

    Posted: 14 Aug 2020 03:12 AM PDT

I've just watched a video about the cobo tablet (cold wallet solution) and noticed that they ship the letter Q only 2 times and X 3 times, while A and similar letters around 10 times. That made me think: Can a seedphrase consisting of words that translate to numbers really be more secure that something completely random?

The reason I ask is exactly what cobo is basically doing: In english words, not every letter is equally spread. There are way more vocals/vowels (dunno the appropriate word) than other letters, and so on.

Is there any math on this topic, or am I wrong here? Because I don't want a ledger nano or anything alike, if that would be more vulnerable and I would have no other way to create a private key. Any help is appreciated! :)

$1 million bitcoin price level is going to be a huge resistance...

    Posted: 13 Aug 2020 12:53 PM PDT

Considering the fact that so many people are hoping that it gets to 1 million, it's going to face a massive sell off at this point only because of the shitty memes that people keep seeing.

Great video for explaining how bitcoin works to your grandparents

    Posted: 13 Aug 2020 09:41 PM PDT

Often it may be difficult to explain how bitcoin works to the average layperson. There have been many attempts at simplifications, some great, some less so.

The video at the bottom of this page is the best I have seen so far... in terms of simplicity, speed (2:22), and accessibility to folks that e.g don't know reddit exists, let alone bitcoin. It's not perfectly accurate sure, but that's not the goal.

(Apologies I am not sure how to link directly to a BBC video - you need to scroll down to the video at the bottom)
