Avalanche and the ETH 2.0 delay? Posted: 10 Jul 2020 02:45 PM PDT A question that will no doubt attract trolls: To what extent does the delay in shipping ETH 2.0 open the door for an Ethereum-compatible VC chain (e.g. Avalanche) to port over much of the existing Ethereum ecosystem to a newer and higher-throughput platform? The latest Etherium giveaway scam Posted: 09 Jul 2020 09:18 PM PDT A sophisticated ETH giveaway scam was attempted this evening. The hook was an old trope: send-crypto to an address and get double the crypto back. The sophistication comes with how the scam was presented. A YouTube channel called "Etherium Blockchain" with 65.5k subscribers appeared in my recommended feed with a live stream featuring Vitalik Buterin speaking about Etherium at a conference. Supposedly 62k viewers were tuning in (likely bots inflating numbers). The video was embedded with a still describing a "50,000 ETH Giveaway" where you could send a minimum of 3ETH to an address and get back double the amount. Chat was disabled, so you could not discuss the legitimacy of the "giveaway". In the video there was a link to a website linked called "event-eth.info," a domain registered by "Afilias Limited" of Dublin, Ireland. The tidy website explains the giveaway and presents a time-imperative: "45,678 ETH of 50,000" already have been given away! It is complete with a spoofed listing of purported transactions showing wallets getting their double ETH rewards immediately after sending their ETH to the address. While the concept of sending crypto somewhere and trusting the sender will send more back your way seems ludicrous, the ability to launch the scam video under the brand of a seemingly legitimate Etherium YouTube channel featuring a a large number of subscribers and viewers with a "live stream" of Vitalik was enough to catch people out. Before the video could be reported and taken down, two members of the community sent 3TH each, netting the scammer(s) approximately $1,500. ------ Edit 1: In the time since posting this, the scammers have received an additional 23 ETH netting them $7,250. (7/10/20 04:50:00GMT) https://www.blockchain.com/eth/address/0x95a19b0CCb7a1C68AAa60813dEec265a08998109 Edit2: The scam is up to 47ETH as I sign-off for the night. An additional scam was called out by Coin Bureau that looks to have netted at least 14ETH (7/10/20 05:10:00GMT): https://www.blockchain.com/eth/address/0xE088821a4dDC1d8137e3485ec889fAfeeC8DF52d Edit 3: 7 hours later 108ETH have been captured by the wallet perpetrating the scam. Simple question to core dev team: Maybe stop posting further dates and deadlines? Posted: 10 Jul 2020 08:25 AM PDT I absolutely believe the team, when they say, it has to be delayed. No one wants a rushed release with flaws - especially with regards to security or stability. But wouldn't it be better, if the core team stopped publishing dates and deadlines then? How about keeping with the motto: "It's done when it's done." Because it's really frustrating to hear and read about delays on a regular basis ... just my 2 cents. [link] [comments]

Ethereum Developers Have Launched Ethereum 2.0 Testnet Posted: 10 Jul 2020 04:22 AM PDT The group of developers working on the transition of the Ethereum ecosystem to stage 2.0, launched the test network. The developers agreed that the work of the Schlesi multi-client testnet was successful and allowed planning transition to the next stage. Now they are almost completely focused on correcting errors in the code and synchronizing all existing clients into a single version of ETH 2.0. Sigma Prime's Mehdi Zerouali has reported significant progress in the development of fuzz testing techniques that transmit test data to the Ethereum 2.0 client to find its bottlenecks. Due to this, it was possible to detect several low-level errors in the code and libraries they rely on, including an infinite loop error in the Teku client and a memory segmentation error in the Nimbus client. Since clients are responsible for storing and validating the blockchain, they must be fully synchronized with each other. Ethereum blockchain is developing seven separate clients. On May 17, 2020, a hard fork occurred in the Schlesi test network, as reported by one of the developers of the project Afri Shoedon who is always agitating for the "Ethereum buy" action. In his Twitter account, he wrote that the ETH blockchain of the second version was divided on block 141184 into several chains. Vitalik Buterin added that the incident reminded him of 2015 when similar failures happened before the launch of Ethereum. Tyler Smith, a spokesman for ConsenSys, called the failure a positive development and Ethereum a good investment, as test networks are designed to detect errors. The expert added that the failure was not a big surprise for him, as Schlesi's stability had previously been a concern. On June 29, 2020, the Altona test network was launched as the first to use the current Ethereum 2.0 specification. Its key difference is a multi-client model with four customers: Prysmatic Labs, Sigma Prime, Nimbus, and PegaSys. Depending on the success of this testnet, another test network Beacon Chain will be created before the official launch of ETH 2.0. [link] [comments]
