    Don’t just HODL, use them...

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 07:35 PM PDT

I really think, cryptocurrency enthusiasts should start transacting in cryptocurrencies, I know many are proud HODLers of cryptocurrencies, you are certainly contributing to the crypto ecosystem in some way, but unless you started making payments in cryptocurrencies its going to be in low light. Just ask a small shop owner "You accept payments in Bitcoin?" He/she will look into google for the first time and will know this going be the future. That's going to create a big impact.

544 BTC were traded in Venezuela using LocalBitcoin (up from 394 BTC) last week, buying BTC with FIAT and selling BTC for FIAT. 544 BTC are 1,019,046,000,000 Bs. (Bolivares). One BTC is around 2,100,000,000 Bs. Monthly minimum wage is less than 5 USD (50,000 satoshis)

    Hi guys,

Updating the numbers, the last week we were under 400 BTC first time in a long time. This week the volume recovered, so we are still at around 2,000 BTC monthly.

This is only measured using LocalBitcoin, there are other exchanges like AIRTM, Uphold, Binance and so on, but no open data). Most of the Localbitcoin trades are in Bolivares.

I recommend reading this website, it is one of the best english websites for Venezuela news (they sometimes touch the crypto and economic situation).

    https://www.caracaschronicles.com/

Yesterday a survey by a serious NGO was released sadly it is only in Spanish (it is called Encovi) they concluded the average income of the Venezuela is 0.72 USD daily.

Full node using a Tor hidden service (.onion)

    Posted: 09 Jul 2020 12:33 AM PDT

I know that bitcoin core has Tor integration, but I was wondering if I could create my own hidden service and use a web hosting service like nginx.

Could I do that? Really I just think it would be cool and fun to set up.

    Is Bitcoin speculative?

    Posted: 09 Jul 2020 02:29 AM PDT

Yesterday, I was talking with a friend and he said that buying bitcoin is speculative. Now, that doesn't sit well on me. Speculation is seek for profits in a highly risky market. Buy low, sell high. Everything could be an object of speculation, the shares of a company even the fidget spinners were some years ago.

Bitcoin, like any other good, asset or currency, may be subject of speculation, and that's the case on some trading pages. However, on those pages you don't speculate with bitcoin, you speculate with the price of bitcoin. That is, if you buy BTC on some trading pages it doesn't even let you move the currency to your personal wallet. Therefore, you are buying "titles" that are equivalent to bitcoin, and speculation occurs when you sell them based on whether or not the price has risen. You are just using BTC for seeking profits, as you could do with any other asset.

Also, bitcoin was not created to be speculative. Bitcoin was thought as a currency, a fully decentralized and anonymous means of exchanging goods and services. For the use of a currency to be feasible, it shouldn't change much in value (which we don't see in the dollar nor euro, where inflation occurs year after year, decreasing its value).

Finally, going back to speculation, it is logical that it is currently done with Bitcoin, it's volatile and there have been many cases of people who have become very rich thanks to it. However, if bitcoin is established as a stable currency and a desirable medium for the exchange of goods and services, speculation would end.

In conclusion, for me buying bitcoin isn't speculation, many people who practice HODL do not plan to sell bitcoin, but use it to buy goods or services. Whether its price rises or falls will depend on the trust in the currency and the confidence on the fiat system.

Raspberry Pi 4 + Mynode, BTC node, and LN Node, user guide for newbies?

    Posted: 09 Jul 2020 04:13 AM PDT

I think I understand how BTC and LN works and now I wish to take the next step and install my own Bitcoin and LN node on a Raspberry Pi 4.

Building the Pi 4, installing the MynodeBTC software, I don't really see a problem for doing that.

My question is, but what after the installation?

A running node is great, but I also wish to understand what is happening on the node. The same for the LN Node.

Are there manuals, user guides, what help you to understand what is happening and how you can configure every part of the software? (Electrum, TOR, Samourai, ...)

58 billions of real goods and burned? Or do all those exchanges hide another truth?

What is there beyond the price (in fiat money...)?
