Reputable places to buy crypto from the UK (in either GBP or USD)? Posted: 03 Jun 2020 02:14 AM PDT I currently have some coin with eToro (which I can't withdraw, so I plan to sell it at the same time as buying elsewhere) and Coinbase (which I can transfer, but the fees for buying here have been quite high). Both of these places also don't seem to have a great rep here! I'm curious where others in the UK buy from? I'm having trouble finding places (that don't turn up some concerning reviews/comments when searching). Also, many in the UK seem to have rip-off rates in GBP (if I compare to how much coin I get for GBP vs USD, the difference is far greater than the exchange rate) - I can easily pay in USD (my bank converts at the Mastercard exchange rate with no fees), though most UK-aimed sites seem to only let me deal in GBP (and I'm not sure I can purchase from non-UK sites due to KYC etc.). Note: I'm looking to buy and send to a hardware wallet immediately, so looking for good prices in total for that. [link] [comments]

Posted: 02 Jun 2020 07:03 PM PDT TLDR; Ask me common tax questions related to cryptocurrency and I will see if I have an answer. I'll only give answers I 100% know is true. If I don't know, I will say I don't and research into it. I'm good with answering regular tax questions if you have them. I've got 5 years experience in those. Long story short, I have been looking into starting a virtual accounting firm. It's not close, so this isn't an ad or anything. Maybe in a few years. I'm also not interesting in trading myself. I just want to be the scorekeeper. I have noticed that many people seeking virtual accounting also trade cryptocurrency, so naturally I started researching if it is any different than short term securities. From what I have seen, it's not that much different besides when trade currency to currency. I want to know if I'm wrong. If there are a lot of the same questions, I will make a tax guide. I'm an accountant. I love makin guides. Questions I have -

Posted: 02 Jun 2020 11:21 AM PDT Hello, I've just been scammed using the www.HodlHodl.com platform. I'm stupid. I'm crying, my skin is burning and my body is shaking. I've lost all of my money. It's not a lot to most probably, but I've been scammed of 0.1747BTC and no longer will I be able to move out as I had planned. I've listed Revolut as the payment method for the BTC I was selling. The scammer told me that they'd send me the funds just by using my phone number. I gave them my number and then I received a notification from Revolut with the following text: "Confirmation: A payment of €1650 with the reference "Sam btc" has just been received into your account and is currently pending. The payment can not be reversed but will be released within 2-4 hours due to difference in locations." I didn't want to release the trade because inside of the Revolut app there was no money, but that message being sent to me from Revolut made all the difference. I was still reasoning with them that they can't expect of me to release the payment without the money having been received by my account but.. They've talked me into it. I've completely bought into it because Revolut's number is the number that has sent me that message + my friend sent money to me many times using just my number (which surprised me back then).. Transcript of our conversation This is my BTC going into the generated ESCROW address This is the address to which the BTC ultimately went. This is the scam account on hodlhodl.com :( Small update: hodlhodl.com refuses to share the information of the scammer so, I guess that scammers are free to go to hodlhodl.com and try out their ingenuity? If a scammer succeeds in scamming someone through hodlhodl.com, hodlhodl.com will protect the them.. [link] [comments]
