Proposal to increase security for validators along staking Posted: 02 Apr 2020 02:47 AM PDT Hey! I've searching a lot about staking as I'm interested in become a validator. But after read as much as I was able, I've find an important breach that can keep normal people like me apart of mount their own validators at home and choose centralized services like the one Coinbase will offer. If by some misconfiguration/lack of experience my validator is hacked, I could lose half or almost all of my ethers staked without any option to recover control of it before that happens. I think it should be added some extra layer of security to avoid this type of situation that could be very usual if this really pretends to be as much descentralizad as possible with the help of not very highly skilled people. What about to can use a hardware wallet like Trezor or Ledger and its U2F capability as a necessary step to take control of a validator? At this way, if a hacker gets control of the server and discover the private key, he still can't do anything because he would need the physical access to the hardware. That would solve easily these situations. What do you think? Thanks [link] [comments] |
