This Bitcoin address associated with the MtGox hack has a balance of 75,957.20 BTC and not a single satoshi has ever been moved out of it

    Posted: 05 Feb 2020 05:32 PM PST

You can see the history of the address here:
    https://bitinfocharts.com/bitcoin/address/1FeexV6bAHb8ybZjqQMjJrcCrHGW9sb6uF

On March 1, 2011 it received 79,956 BTC in a single transaction in what has been reported by Mark Karpeles to be associated with the MtGox hack. Karpeles is /u/MagicalTux on Reddit. He seems to indicate that he believes Jed McCaleb (who is mtgox apparently in the chat logs in the linked reddit thread) may have had some part in the hack.

It's kind of a weird cultural aspect of Bitcoin that people continue to send coins to specific addresses as a sign of appreciation or respect or worship or whatever. For instance, this address has received an additional 1.2 BTC over the years, from 317 other transactions, mostly just dust amounts. Another is the BitcoinEater unspendable address that has received over 13 BTC in 306 transactions over the years. Another one that I guess makes a bit more sense is the address associated with the coinbase from the first block reward, which has received an extra 18.2 BTC in over 1900 transactions over the years. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If you were able to chose one option to invest in 2020, would you hodl 1 BTC or 32 ETH?

    Posted: 05 Feb 2020 11:22 PM PST

BTC halving looks like an amazing opportunity if you sell and rebuy at proper times, but ETH 2.0 and staking seems really promising.

I am baking Tezos as well, and the return is great with the increase in price and interest.

I know predicting the markets is impossible, I'm curious to know what YOU would do.

What are legal remedies available to exchange users?

As recently it appears that Rune Evensen CEO of COSS exchange has sold private data of exchange users to outsiders as now they are getting emails from some sub standard forex website.

    COSS is based in Singapore.

ELI5: Why are stablecoins not the end goal for cryptocurrency?

    Posted: 05 Feb 2020 12:06 PM PST

Say a stablecoin like Tether was created with the anonymity of Monero. If the end goal is to use cryptocurrency as a means of purchasing goods, why isn't it preferable to have it tied to a national currency? In the same way that the U.S. dollar used to be tied to gold, it seems logical that this would be the best way for cryptocurrency to see meaningful adoption.

The obvious answer here is that the vast majority of people in the cryptocurrency space are in it for an investment opportunity, not just because they want to see the tech succeed. But is there another reason?

Ravencoin is about to fork, tomorrow - >85% consensus has been achieved, upgrade your wallets to the newest version to stay on the primary chain.

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 04:14 AM PST

Ravencoin version 3.3.1 is available at https://github.com/RavenProject/Ravencoin/releases/tag/v3.3.1

This update will add: - restricted assets https://medium.com/@tronblack/ravencoin-restricted-asset-sec-compliance-how-to-1-fe507a6a4ae9

(Technically theres no fork needed for the latter but it will be released in the same update)

These features are perfect for blockchain based securities: https://medium.com/@tronblack/ravencoin-a-securities-token-roadmap-47ae1d9dac26

In addition, there will be a transaction fee increase. It is moving from 0.00001 RVN per KB(kilobyte) to 0.0100 RVN per KB(kilobyte). This increase is intended to prevent users from blocking the mempool with many small transactions, which is currently very cheap.

Additional wallet GUI features to use messaging and dividends will be rolled out over the coming weeks.

    Stats about the fork.. https://ravencoinexplorer.com/fork.php

    Is GrimeBIT A Scam?

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 03:57 AM PST

I got a message on Discord from Downright Pattern saying I've been randomly selected to receive BTC as part of a giveaway. I signed up for the website and (supposedly) received .32BTC, or roughly $3000. I haven't tried to convert the money to USD and/or transfer it to my bank account, and I haven't put in any personal info; I just created a username. I don't know much about crypto (I've only invested in XRP), so I'm naive to how I can get scammed. I don't really see anything bad, but I don't just receive a message saying I'm given three thousand dollars without my spidey-sense going off.

Thank you in advance for any help,
    ~gszx1337

P.S. Sorry if I used an inappropriate flair.

    Crypto Game Publishers

    Posted: 05 Feb 2020 05:44 PM PST

Well we know crypto-integrated games have a lot of upside potential. But on average, and in the vanilla (non-crypto) games industry it's pretty hard to find publishers to help develop and bring projects to market. I've had successes on both ends of that spectrum but at no point was or is it easier to be "indie" unless you don't intend to build a lasting business.

Now this is all especially considering the nature of crypto games. I know we all like decentralization but at some point there are hosting costs associated with networking software. But the crazy thing is it's cheaper to host dapp games because they're decentralized. This means better margins to begin with. I'm speaking from experience, having been personally sitting on two projects that are more or less proven to work but its a no-mans land for getting projects running unless you have the capital upfront.

So with all the liquidity in this sector, why haven't more small crypto video game publishers popped up yet? Even Cryptokitties ultimately had to grow just enough to lean on VCs, which is non-traditional in gaming. Well it might have to do with the majority of the liquidity coming from who I call "retail" traders. In-and out investors. Fair enough. But imo without dedicated publishing houses we're doomed to keeping that dapp game scene choked out if not for lack of incentive and opportunities to develop them in earnest. This might have a lot to do with the lack of game industry expertise in crypto (since really, anyone can buy and trade). But maybe I'm wrong, thoughts?

edit: Hell, if anyone wants to try and start one I'm all in.
