What is it going to take for the average Joe To Start Using Crypto?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2020 07:50 AM PST

Crypto feels like a no brainer for me and I imagine for others in this subreddit, but the truth is, it's far too inconvenient for the average joe. What factors do you think are keeping us from mass adoption? Personally I believe better education is needed, so people gain some familiarity and lose their fear of all things crypto, plus services that allow people to use and store cryptos in a way that is similar to the mainstream banking systems they are already used to. This and general acceptance from more vendors.

For past month I have been building website to explain blockchain and cryptocurrencies in my native language [Need general and UI reviews]

    Posted: 28 Feb 2020 02:30 AM PST

Hey guys, so as I mentioned in title for past month I been creating content and website KriptoLatvija.com to explain cryptocurrencies and blockchain in my native language (Latvian) as this kind of content isn't available.

Site mostly uses (with Binance blessings) Binance.vision content, translated and reworked to latvian.

For now it is not indexed to search engines and I hadn't published it anywhere.
I would love to ask general opinion on sites UI and look and maybe some ideas or critics about it.

Stock market is a flaming dumpster before our eyes, and crypto keeps trending down along with it.

    Posted: 27 Feb 2020 02:51 PM PST

What the hell? It's always been said BTC is a safe heaven for value when the traditional stores aren't functioning. It's not 1:1, but bad news for stocks is usually good for bitcoin and I know a lot of people, myself included were waiting for the next big correction/recession to hit and help drive up prices.

I don't know if we're there yet, but the market is getting trashed this week. How does that affect crypto going forward? Are the two assets more connected than some give them credit to be? Or is this what will finally get the big players to jump in and help go more mainstream? What are we looking at here? And is this an opportunity or time to be fearful? Corona virus aside.

    $3 million DeFi loans liquidated

    Posted: 28 Feb 2020 03:51 AM PST

    It's raining blood.

This headline: "ETH Locked in DeFi Crosses 3 Million, Accurately Predicting Ethereum's Latest Rally" (source: https://ethereumprice.org/newsletter/eth-locked-in-defi-crosses-3-million-accurately-predicting-ethereums-latest-rally/)

And then this headline: "As Ethereum crashed 15%, stagerring $3 million DeFi loans got liquidated" (source: https://cryptoslate.com/as-ethereum-crashed-15-stagerring-3-million-defi-loans-got-liquidated/)

59% of liquidations happened on dydX Protocol and 40% are from Compound Finance.

Ankit Chiplunkar on Twitter: "One liquidation event earned a profit of $40k DAI in a single transaction. It also destroyed 49 contracts (via gasToken) consuming less gas and pay a fee of only $8.

Another liquidation event paid $580 in fees (2.5ETH) to earn a profit of $2.5k DAI in a single transaction. A total of 125 transactions have paid more than 1 Eth via fees to miners, almost all related to liquidation events."

People don't buy what you do, they buy why you do it. We need to start talking about bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in public forums and platforms.

    Posted: 28 Feb 2020 03:11 AM PST

I don't know how many people are going to see this thread, but if we want to get the word out about cryptocurrency and how it may change the world, act as a back up or "plan B", then we need to find ways to gather large groups of people in our different countries and regions and explain the power of cryptocurrency.

People don't buy what you do, they buy why you do it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qp0HIF3SfI4

Remember that, and don't forget to mention Satoshi Nakamoto.

EDIT: What I mean to say is, if you want people to fully understand what cryptocurrency is / does and enables them to do, then the responsibility falls on you to introduce them to it. For context, I introduced a guy in my company's smoking area to an altcoin and then said to him, "Using bitcoin is more or less the same as this." And it was like a lightbulb went off above his head. I could see it on his face. I told him, "besides stablecoins, bitcoin is the least volatile of the cryptocurrencies. If bitcoin falls 5% sometimes other cryptocurrencies fall 10%."
