    REST API for Electron Cash

    Posted: 03 Feb 2020 09:05 PM PST

I created this video to give a demo of a REST API prototype I built for Electron Cash, and wanted to share it with the developer BCH community:

    https://youtu.be/nv0WMb24e0M

The motivation for designing the REST API was to send funds between a CashShuffle 'spending' wallet and a CashFusion 'consolidation' wallet.

    • The CashFusion wallet runs on an old laptop. It runs CashFusion 24/7 and is dedicated to anonymously consolidating my spare change.
    • The CashShuffle wallet runs on my day-to-day laptop. It anonymously shuffles my BCH after each transaction.

The spending wallet constantly has small UTXOs that aren't worth much money but could leak a lot of information. This workflow safely recycles them and sends them back as large, anonymous UTXOs to my spending wallet.

This REST API framework though could be adapted to fit any workflow between two Electron Cash wallets.

    Please define "decentralization"...

    Posted: 03 Feb 2020 04:12 PM PST

By your personal measure, is the measure of decentralization:

    1. the number of pools
    2. the number of miners
    3. the number of validators
    4. the number of users

Reason I ask is that the answer seems to vary according to the source.

    Where the devs be at?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2020 02:55 PM PST

I've been looking for support in BCH since I got here (a lil' over a month now). The read.cash community has been fantastic! surprisingly though, reddit has not.. (I mean that from a dev perspective)

TL;DR—is there a "centralized" platform where the devs gather to share?

i'm obviously a big, BIG fan of decentralization, but NOT when it comes to information sharing. it's been discouraging to NOT have a place to go to get answers. (to what I consider very basic questions)

A few weeks ago, developer.bitcoin.com sent me the MOST lovely email welcoming me to the community. In closing they said, "If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask by replying to this email." .. so I DID! but I have yet to receive a response. (perhaps busy with the IFP and its update)

the question was, "what's the deal with your REST api? is it free? for anyone? forever? i see no mention of keys/authentication .. this is just another example of things that look too good to be true? is BCH too good to be true, you would tell me, wouldn't you?"

i've been "a bit" critical of BCH since I landed on 20.1.1; because I'm eager to validate its "truth" (after suffering the lies of Blockstream), while ignoring the glitz and glamour. (both of which are in abundance -- much to my delight ☺️) Why? Because I'm here to BUIDL shit!

bottom line is, I need a better understanding and I don't always know where to go. the "comments" from the read.cash community have been pointing me all over the place, and I've been "slowly" gathering the knowledge that I need (sometimes it just feels like dumb luck) to understand what I'm doing right or wrong.

I get BTC .. and I get ETH .. but BCH is sorely lacking in developer support.

(reddit COULD NOT POSSIBLY be the primary platform for developers to share, learn and grow their knowledge .. what am I missing??)

I won't just rant without offering some suggestions:

    1. https://gitter.im/bitcoincash/ (seems easy enough)
    2. https://bitcoincash.stackexchange.com/ (makes me sad this doesn't exist)
    3. https://bitcoincash.slack.com/ (note: a billing exemption requires "special" approval)

I'm more than ready to help with organizing an effort to this end...

    Cheers!

edit: if you're interested, Ash2.cash best explains how I came to arrive at BCH's doorstep.

Since the "US/EU miner group" did not confirm their indentity in any way, we should assume a large part of contention and opposition to chinese miners' plan was manufactured and fake.

    Posted: 03 Feb 2020 09:22 AM PST

After calling them and giving them enough time to answer I think we should conclude that the supposed protest of EU/US miners was a simulated/astroturfed one.

It was most probably a manufactured fake action in order to create division and weaken unity in Bitcoin Cash community.

There is absolutely no surprise that they did not identify themselves and disappeared as soon as they have (in their mind) reached their goal which was stopping the chinese project - or so they thought.

    EDIT: Fixed little clarity errors.

Bitcoin Cash does these three things

    Posted: 03 Feb 2020 03:36 PM PST

Bitcoin Cash does these three things

    1. For humanity, it reduces violence by keeping governments in check, and by avoiding socialistic implosions.

    2. But if you don't look that far, or don't care, but still you are a prudent saver, or a debtor that is forced into the situation by intrusion into your economic life, it helps you as an individual immediately by protecting you from the inflation tax, and it gives you a chance to get the upper hand.

    3. And if you are smart, in the current state of adoption, where we have few users but will have more, you can take advantage of the resulting appreciation and secure your retirement by having some coins.

SHA256 is bad for BCH. Change my mind.

    https://coinspice.io/news/crypto-dev-digest-bitcoin-cash-daa-gamed-again-plasma-postmortem-eos-dev-portal-live/

Mark Lundeberg says that although switching to another ASIC would fix the gaming, it would be 'politically' unacceptable for BCH. His view fits with my experience here, but I still can't see the valid 'political' reasons for sticking with SHA256. I also think algo change would fix other things.

Anyone care to enlighten me as to where I'm going wrong?
