Hello /r/CryptoCurrency and a happy new year to you all. I imagine most in this subreddit aren't up to date on what's happening in the Neo ecosystem, so I wanted to share these summaries for 2019 by NNT with you all which should make it much easier to get up to speed.

There are five articles total, information is well sourced so you should be able to find extra context or follow any rabbit holes that interest you.

    • Neo3 Development - Goals, development, and research undertaken as part of Neo core protocol development.
    • Events - Neo events hosted around the world in 2019. Includes summaries for major events such as the Neo DevCon in Seattle and the Community Assembly in Shanghai, and also provides a timeline of other workshops, meetups, and higher education opportunities.

TimeLock V3.2 - 10 million Satoshi hacking challenge / reward

TimeLock V3.2 - 10 million Satoshi hacking challenge / reward

I have created a TimeLock program for arbitrary digital content. Time validation is accomplished via Bitcoin blockchain header.

The program is free to use for time-locking any file up to 10 KB.

For this challenge I have created a lock box with a private key worth 10 million Satoshi: Reward

All the information you need to get started is here: https://www.algomachines.com

    This is my tenth challenge.

Start time on the lock box is 02/03/2020 00:00:00 UTC and end time is 03/03/2020 00:00:00 UTC. The LockBox may only be opened via TimeLock during this time interval.

I give all the information that you need to create a comparable lockbox, i.e. time interval and password.

So the only thing protecting the reward is the Bitcoin blockchain timestamp and the ability of TimeLock to withstand your attempts to hack it.

I've been impressed by the brilliance of the hackers who have hacked previous versions of TimeLock. Please read the reports on the web-site if you want to see how they did it and how TimeLock works.

    My Plan for Crypto

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 06:03 PM PST

For Christmas I received a bit of money I can invest. The majority I added to my savings for retirement — traditional stocks and bonds. But I also had a chunk I can add to my crypto portfolio.

Right now I have about 50% in large caps — BTC and ETH. About 30% in mid-cap and 20% in small-cap. But when this money becomes available (after the week-long hold time for Coinbase), I am thinking of changing things a bit.

I am bullish on crypto. I see the recent decline in the market as an advantage for me because that means I can buy more coins/tokens for my money. But I think that BTC and ETH are the most likely to weather the test of time. So I am thinking about changing the way my investment is spread.

I am toying with the numbers — but I'm tempted to go with 50% BTC, 30% ETH, and then 14% in medium and 6% in small.

Although bullish on crypto, I feel that the potential reward isn't worth the high risk for these smaller coins/tokens. Maybe I am getting too old. :)

Sanctions check. You cannot withdraw, as your money is being held 24 hours.

"Interesting, I'm a line at the bank (don't ask) and the people in front of me have been told that their money is being held for 24 hours because of a "sanctions check". I wonder how much of a thing this is these days?"

Anyone using Exchange Connections in Blockfolio?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 09:29 PM PST

I have some regular Coinbase buys that I perform that I was considering making regular automated purchases. To do that I would want to make sure they are recorded in my Blockfolio portfolio to track however.

Is anyone successfully using Exchange Connection to sync buys/sells and have it working well? I read a few issues with movement to wallets being treated as a sell for example and am just a little paranoid of giving all control to Blockfolio and it possibly messing up my portfolio. Anyone suggestions on how to get it working well?

    Decentralize everything!

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 07:12 PM PST

It is not just a meme. It is a place to start. 2020 holds fantastic opportunity for the tech that is behind block chain to begin its launch into the mainstream of business and life. I have been in the an industry for more than 15 years. In the last year we have begun speaking specifically about smart contracts and also decentralized storage. At the moment a decentralized storage is more the order of business. Companies want a safe and secure way to safe data in a way that will ensure that even if their systems were destroyed, their data would still be preserved.

It has been best described like this; Company A wishes to back up its data. Servers can be corrupted, and even changed by outside sources (hackers). They can also be unintentionally compromised through users who happen to click on the wrong link which could allow a back door into the system. Such things are limited in the block chain. You control the keys, you control the data.

Currently a number of teams are working toward decentralization. One of those is Ether-1 with its node solution known as EthoFS. The application is simple. It has a very nice user interface allowing people to be able to upload documents into the block chain and as a result storing their data in a decentralized manner. Safely stored, the business could focus on growing their business instead of ensuring back ups are safe even if the absolutely worst damage to their network ever took place.

Reports are boring but necessary for the running of a business. Having what is needed is essential to running a business. It is also important to note that the immutable nature of the block chain is also a vital aspect for a business. Imagine you were in the legal field and needed to have accessible back ups of documents for legal purposes. Once again, the block chain can perform this function for you. The original signed documents could be stored in an office and potentially lost, but the copy uploaded into the block chain would allow be accessible despite what ever may happen to the original.

What else could be decentralized? Everything! It is not a meme because the technology is so new we have only touched the tip of the iceberg. I know for a fact the Ether-1 network can host data through its block chain and could be used to host data and by pass the gate keepers of the internet today. If you have ever known of a channel removed from YouTube or some other such cite, they could easily host their content from the block chain and operate fully in a decentralized platform.

The best thing is, this now exists. One of the things that has been most frightening in the modern age is the control of data and more importantly the silencing of voices. This is an aspect that goes beyond the use case of a business. This begins to come into our homes. To be unpersoned on the internet is often times something that can completely destroy a person and their income if they used their persona as a way of making income. We are going into a hugely political year. I first got into block chain as a result of the political season leading up to 2016. I realized then that decentralization was vital for a free future. Ether-1 is helping to create that. Take the time, look them up. Their YouTube has a demonstration of how easy the EthoFS is to use. You will not be disappointed. The future is ready. Are we?
