(Request for Chinese fluent redditors) How is the new proposal going over in the Chinese community?

    Posted: 25 Jan 2020 04:41 PM PST

I am curious if the Chinese community has the same mixed emotions as r/btc in regards to the new proposal, any info from Chinese fluent redditors would be much appreciated, Thanks!

Which is Better? Miners donating directly to projects? Or funds going into one big pool which is then given out on a per project basis?

Funding proposal seems like sound game theory. But to avoid a split in community, the implementation needs to be discussed.

    Posted: 26 Jan 2020 12:41 AM PST

I've always held that the community is BCH's greatest strength. No other crypto comes close. We need to keep it that way. No censorship, lots of healthy arguing and discussion. Lots of us will have to compromise on our principles. Remember: perfect is the enemy of good.

Who here knows what tragedy of the commons means?

    Posted: 25 Jan 2020 09:21 PM PST

Cause I do and its nothing at all related to what that miner thinks it is.

I haven't posted much at all since that cluster fuck of the bsv chain split but now got some messages about the proposed miner tax.

Curious how Roger ver is able to reconcile this idea with his public statements for years now about voluntaryism and freedom. They are not compatible.

And if he thinks that this a special case that demands expediency rather than principles then he has lost the plot.

Removing centralisation from the dev funding proposal

    Posted: 25 Jan 2020 02:32 PM PST

    1. Host multiple globally editable lists where devs submit posts to show what they work on, prove that it's them posting, and provide a payable address. An example of this could be a stickied thread here on r/btc.

    2. In each block constructed by miners, they include a list of addresses [called a funding list] of any of the devs they feel deserve some compensation for their work up to a maximum of 100 addresses.

    3. For a block to be accepted by the rest of the network (should this idea receive majority support obviously), 12.5% of the coinbase reward must be either sent to an address that appears in at least 5 of the last 10 funding lists (in the last 10 blocks). Or, if no such address exists, burnt to a hardcoded burn address.

This removes any notion of a centralised party which decides where funds go.

The miners who mine the blocks get to decide where the funds go and they can't choose to burn the 12.5% if there are 1 or more addresses that appear in at least 5 of the last 10 funding lists.

The majority of miners get to determine the worthy potentials but can't pay the 12.5% to their own addresses as they won't appear in at least 5 out of 10 blocks.

All donations from miners to devs are transparent

Looking for people to poke holes in this! Thanks!

    Privacy issue bitcoin.com wallet

    Posted: 25 Jan 2020 09:29 PM PST

You may have heard Roger talking about coin shuffle coming to their iPhone wallet which may sound nice for privacy, However, it seems the latest iPhone version of the wallet reuses change addresses. In my case addresses I used more than a year ago. Now your current spendings are linked to previous spendings even if you often empty your wallet completely and put new coins in it. I consider this a major privacy issue. Perhaps someone can tag one of their developers, can't find the GitHub for this version of the wallet.

I don't exclude I did something dumb, so if anyone using this wallet can confirm?

Friendly Reminder: Always Backup Your Wallet

    Posted: 25 Jan 2020 10:11 AM PST

I had a bit of a scare earlier today when a file was corrupted and I 'lost' some BCH. Luckily, I had it backed up and was able to restore the funds.

The moral of the story is - ALWAYS write down your passphrases/private keys and keep them in a safe place and make sure they are up to date! That is all. :)

How do I convert BSV from the fork to BCHABC?

    Posted: 25 Jan 2020 11:02 PM PST

So I have a paper wallet that I haven't touched since like 3 years ago and I'm not updated with BCH news since then. I checked today and found out I have 2 coins from the paper wallet, one BCH and one BSV ddue to fork. Basically I want to convert my BSV to BCH, how do I do this?

I went to https://coinswap.keys4coins.com/ but I need to have a non-paper wallet address for my BSV, after downloading like 3 apps only ElectrumSV can import paper wallet. I clicked the send button and paste the coinswap link in the "Pay to" section then put max in in the "Amount" I want to send but after Preview I can't sign the transaction....

Is there an easier way of doing this, I've been googling this for an hour now, creating accounts on different websites only to find out they don't support BSV.

BUIP to allow ++voluntary++ miner payouts from blocks to additional addresses

    Posted: 25 Jan 2020 02:21 PM PST

    https://bitco.in/forum/threads/buip-pay-out-to-configurable-list-of-addresses-from-mined-block-coinbases.25505/#post-103265

    DISCLAIMER, right up front.

This is an improvement proposal which I suggested personally, and it has not yet been accepted by the BU membership, who first need to vote on BUIPs before they get accepted or rejected.

So please do not mistake this for an official BU communication or anything endorsed by BU. I am just a member, every member is free to propose BUIPs (or even sponsor non-members who want to propose BUIPs).

    Rough summary:

This BUIP proposes a feature to let a miner easily pay out some percentages of a block reward to additional addresses, which they can freely configure.

The default would be to pay out a small percentage (e.g. 3%) to a donation address set as default by the maintainer of the software (in this case as BU is maintaining the BUcash client, they would receive this contribution).

    Benefits:

    • entirely voluntary

    • public record on the blockchain which miners are contributing to BU development (others may of course still donate as much as they wish out-of-band, i.e. by direct donations or arrange to support a project in any other way they choose).

    • allows miners to donate to multiple dev/infrastructure projects if they wish to configure it like that

    • miners can already do this (donating out of coinbase), but the point is to make it easy (payout of percentage to multiple outputs is not easily configurable in the major clients)

    • no centralized entity that disburses funds and thus holds developer purse strings

Q: How is this better than miners just sending funds to their favorite projects via normal transactions?

A: For one, it is easier to track because it happens directly as outputs from the coinbase, and not some random transactions which someone would need to identify. If miners want more privacy, they can still choose to donate through those.

Secondly, it's automated - once the node is configured, the miner doesn't have to worry about doing manual transactions.

Thirdly, because it's based on percentages of the block reward, it automatically follows reward reductions (halvings) in proportion, unlike manually set up payments which need to have their amounts adjusted manually too (ok, someone could also program to reduce those automatically).

Fourth, why should a miner/pool need to donate 12,5% of their coinbase to spend on e.g. 4 dev teams when they might want to support only the dev team of their choice, which might only get 3% (~ 1/4) of the 12,5% anyway. This proposal might save them the 9% spent on developers they do not want to support. There is a fairness principle here - pay for the service that you use or you want to use. Not pay for services you do not use or want. I think this has been neglected in the conversation so far.
