Posted: 28 Jan 2020 09:39 PM PST After the big hoopla I am now somewhat convinced that we need more work on driving funding to developers. And I've postulated that unless we can measure the rate and size of funding we won't be able to answer these questions:
To that end I hacked together a little tool. It is super raw and has some just downright horrible design decisions. This weekend I'm hoping to find enough time to clean it up and get a HTTP interface to the data it provides. My Goal is to be able to injest a list of BCH dev funding addresses and get an accounting of funding given. Then display that in a useful manner. But here's where I need your help to start Do you know a project that should be on the list that I'm missing? Add it to my default yaml definition. Do you know a development project that I don't have a funding address for? Please add it. I've got some ideas for how this could work out in the long run, but if you feel inspired please fork! It's open source! If we take the miner proposal at it's word, we'd need to raise approximately $6M by September 15th. So taking block 619000 as a starting point (a block the day after the announcement) I've summed up all the funding sources I know about. If you accept those goals as reasonable, for now here's the current funding as the tool sees it: It should be noted thought that I could be missing a bunch of donation addresses. Let me know what you guys think. [link] [comments]

Compiled list of BCH Miner Dev Fund posts, articles, discussions Posted: 28 Jan 2020 07:50 AM PST The BCH Miner Dev Fund has proven to be a huge topic in this community over the past week. There has been tons of discussions on it. Here is an attempt to compile some of the more relevant posts and discussions over the past several days into one post for reference. Obviously some of this will be overlapping and I know I will miss some posts so if I missed something major, just link to it in the comments so I can update this list. For me one thing has changed: A HK-based company will be now in charge of 12.5% of all mined coins. What do we do when chinese government (inevitably) starts to control it? How about a smart contract instead? The community deserves a formal withdraw of the proposed changes by the signatories. The hashwar and split from the proposed change will harm Bitcoin Cash more than the benefits it proposes to give. Alternative Infrastructure Funding Plan Proposal
Removing centralisation from the dev funding proposal An open, neutral, borderless cash protocol should not have a privileged account that gives a central entity the ability to extract money from the protocol. [Read] "What happens if the powerful miners decide to increase the 21 million limit?" Miners that don't donate would incur a 12.5% handicap Remind me again why a simple transparent Crowdfunding contribution address run by a few parties who are regularly audited wouldn't solve the dev funding problem in a decentralized manner overnight? I would contribute monthly. BCH Dev Fund: Why Not Crowdfund? Here is the absolute right way to fund developers Why not keep things simple and just use a multisig address? They say the miners' tax will be given to the "good guys." From a BCH security perspective, users are far more important than hashpower. If BCH is still only doing 0.3 TPS ten years from now, BCH will be worth a very tiny fraction of today's $330 price. The Dev Fund has many obvious concerns, but so does doing nothing. In urgent need for a small p2p swap. Posted: 29 Jan 2020 01:47 AM PST Hey, so for a transaction to go through I need exactly 10 more cents worth of PAX USD, and I don't have the 5 bucks necessary for a trade my exchange website wants, so if someone can please give me 10 cents of PAX, I will send the 10 cents worth of BCH or ETH. Please DM me your ETH/BCH public address as well as the currency I need to send the money in and I will send you my Pax address. [link] [comments]
