No FUD, Serious Question about XRP's price

    Posted: 21 Dec 2019 07:37 AM PST

Been in 3+ years, still in the green, not going anywhere blah blah blah

Now that's out of the way, talking with family over the holidays and I was asked "What makes a coin worth x.xx?"

I gave all the typical answers of utility, freeing non-working capital from Nostro/Vostro, speed, cost, remittances, etc etc

But I couldn't actually define where, or who, generates the price at a given time whether .19 cents or $20.

I then went on to explain how ODL sources the cheapest XRP it can find from partner exchanges thus propping the price up to the level at which the buyout was fulfilled to meet the transfer amount.

This is someone who has 40+ years working the typical stock market and understands market behavior, terminology, herd mentalities, value, etc

He understands all of what I've said to him but the question itself still remained, where does the value at a given moment come from?

In essence, he's a hard sell. I actually did get him in 2 years ago but he based his buyin on my recommendation because he trusts me. Being a long time traditional investor, he doesn't watch the daily, weekly, or even monthly movements. He's quite seasoned to buy and forget for years at a time.

That doesn't mean he doesn't have questions for me occasionally or follow some news though.

I explained that speculators alone would have a hard time pushing significant price movements as the amount available to us in the grand scheme of things is quite small.

He sees the long term potential of what Ripple is doing but he's hard balling me for an answer about what EXACTLY dictates the price at any given moment and I don't have anything concrete to give him. I have a number of things that together create value like freeing non-working capital, speed, cost, certainty, and such but he doesn't find those things to provide a dollar value per XRP.

Thought maybe some of you might have a better answer. He also put me on the spot for a conversation I wasn't exactly prepared for so maybe at the time I fumbled or missed some things as well.
