Within only a decade, governments, banks, and corporations went from laughing at the idea of cryptocurrencies to trying to imitate them. Short-term price is just a distraction.

    Help needed: HitBTC Restricted

    Posted: 24 Nov 2019 01:00 PM PST

A friend of mine was recently locked out of his HitBTC account and I'm looking for any suggestions or advice you all may provide. Here's his situation:

I thought I could use HitBTC without verification on an old account I had if I withdrew under 1 BTC. I requested a withdrawal and now they are making me go through KYC. I'm from the US and according to the TOS it's not allowed to be from the USA but they do let you withdraw according to the TOS. Should I go ahead and submit my USA info? Any information on how to remove the limitation and withdrawal especially as a US resident would be greatly appreciated.

Starting a country where competing currencies are allowed

    Posted: 24 Nov 2019 01:37 PM PST

    Greetings,

In an age where technology is growing rapidly, we often forget our civil liberties. Since 9/11, the US federal government has implemented its authoritarian policies that's sweeping away our privacy and its involvement in useless wars are killing hundreds of its citizens. Not to mention the whole China-Hong Kong conflict. With the current geopolitical climate (protests), I've decided to start my own country to get hell away from it. Personally, I'm an anarcho-capitalist but most commonly identified as a libertarian.

The country will be called the Republic of Auradon. So what's the plan?

    Terminologies

There are two terminologies you should know. The first one is called the declarative theory of statehood. It was established by the 1933 Montevideo Convention. It determined a state should have a government, permanent population, defined territory, and the capacity to enter into relations with other states.

The second one is called the constitutive theory of statehood. It states that a state is only a state if other states recognize it.

    Government

I've spent the last few months researching different forms of government. I found a lot of them fascinating. Obviously Auradon won't be an autocracy or oligarchy.

I've decided to go with a constitutional republic. Why not a monarchy? Well, I don't have any royal bloodline and it'll be retarded (sorry for the derogatory term) to create a new one. Whether it'll be a presidential or parliamentary democracy is undecided. I think a parliamentary democracy would work best because it gives more power to the legislature which is the branch that represents the people. All forms of government have their pros and cons.

Here's our proposed separation of powers:

Legislature: Parliament —> unicameral, 25 seats/Members of Parliament (MPs)

Executive: President, Cabinet (ministerial positions are undecided)

Judiciary: Supreme Court —> Chief Justice, Justices (two)

Parliament writes bills. The President can sign or veto bills. If the President vetoes a bill, Parliament can override the veto. If Parliament and the President approves the bill, then the Supreme Court will determine its constitutionality in order for the bill to become a law. All positions are directly elected except the Cabinet is appointed by the President. The President is both the head of state and government and oversees Parliament with advice from the Cabinet.

The name "Parliament" might be changed to "Legislative Council" or "Legislative Assembly".

    Decentralization

I'm thinking of establishing a blockchain. Citizens will be able to vote in real time. We're going to allow competing currencies but we will have our own currency for novelty purposes. Preferably a cryptocurrency or digital currency.

We will have a form of direct democracy similar to how Switzerland operates theirs. Citizens have the power to overturn a bill, law, or constitutional amendment by launching a referendum. If it's a bill, they have to gather 1,000 signatures within 10 days. If it's a law, they have to gather 5,000 signatures within 15 days. If it's a constitutional amendment, they have to gather 10,000 signatures within 25 days.

Citizens are allowed to impeach the President by gathering 50,000 signatures within 30 days. Then it will have to be passed by Parliament and the Supreme Court. Of course, these numbers are just placeholders. That will depend on how many citizens we're going to have.

    Territory

I've done some extensive research on possible territories I could claim. There are currently seven unclaimed land on Earth; Marie Byrd Land (Antarctica), Bi'r Tawil (between Egypt and Sudan), and four pockets of land between Croatia and Serbia. The last two is debatable because it's a territorial dispute.

There is also a concept called seasteading where you build infrastructures out at sea. The problem with this is that it's very expensive and some governments might not like having a neighbor. Earlier this year, a Thai couple was threatened with the death penalty by the Thai government for "violating Thai sovereignty" while living on a seastead.

My two suggestions for territory is to claim a 7 sq km of land between Croatia and Serbia or Marie Byrd Land. Antarctica might be our only hope to establish a carbon neutral nation and become a symbol of climate change.

    Ideology

Having an ideology or purpose is important. It shows what a nation is pushing to achieve. Our ideology is based on libertarianism. "If you don't mess with me, then I won't mess with you."

However, I don't believe in not having taxes because the government would need to be run on some form of compensation. I think public services should be severely limited to having a military or police force, paramedics, and firefighters. Auradon will be a state where the non-aggression principle (NAP) is enforced.

    How can I help?

I'm only looking for very skilled people that are dedicated in building a nation from scratch. Yes, it will require some patience but it should be worth it in the end. So what positions are there?

    • Members of Parliament (MPs)
    • Minister of Foreign Affairs (experience required)
    • Minister of Finance (experience required)
    • Minister of Defense (experience required)
    • Developers
    • Programmers
    • Chief Justice (experience required)
    • Justices (experience required)
    • Business owners
    • Politicians
    • Lawyers
    • Attorneys
    • Designers
    • Builders
    • Planners
    • Ambassadors
    • Representatives

    What now?

Take everything I said in this post with a grain of salt. Everything is subjected to change. If requests are high, I will make a Discord server.

In the meantime, subscribe to r/Auradon for future updates.

Thank you and have a great day!

Everyone gets shaky, emotions take over. The hardest thing for me to do is convince my self to buy in or not. That's my mentality. I'm not a trader, simply here for the long term. Btc nearly hit 20k aud this year after everyone called it dead. I don't know how many times I've seen these fluctuations. What's your strategy?

DEX for swapping Bitcoin for Stablecoin?

    Posted: 24 Nov 2019 07:24 PM PST

As we're getting more Decentralized Exchanges (DEXs) gaining maturity, are there any that are doing Bitcoin to Dai (BTC:DAI) or Bitcoin to SAI swaps directly? Most all exchanges I've seen deal mainly with one blockchain, so there's several that allow swaps between all Ethereum-based assets, but jumping cross-chain to Bitcoin? That would need to use an Atomic Swap or similar technology to do in a decentralized/trustless manner. Any already working with that setup?
