[Followup] 2014 Hong Kong Umbrella Movement Bitcoin Donations Posted: 19 Nov 2019 03:32 AM PST I kept this in myself for quite a while, I think it's about time to share the story. In 2014, I asked a protester/livestreamer, James Bang to start accepting Bitcoin donations. Shortly thereafter Chris Ellis helped him set up a wallet. However James contacted me and Chris, that he slept on the street that night, he lost his phone and he did not have a wallet backup. Later that day James in his livestream I saw he bought about a hundred boxes of dimsum and claimed it was from the Bitcoin donations, then he started giving it out to protesters. At that time I was thinking what the right course of action is, and I decided to keep silent about it and keep watching the Bitcoin address if the money moves or not. The following year I checked it every day. Today, 5 years later, the funds still did not move, so I think it is safe to say, he did not steal them. However, the story does not end here. A week or so ago I checked what's the deal with him. On the one hand I found it really funny how he went from "what is Bitcoin?" to adding "Using Blockchain to solve real world problems" to his Twitter bio :) On the other hand, I think he went missing. The last online activity I was able to dig up from him was on August 3, this year and Chris tried to also contact him, but he is unresponsive. [link] [comments]

List of bitcoin person-to-person (P2P) bitcoin exchanges (e.g., Bisq, HodlHodl, LocalCoinSwap, etc.) Posted: 18 Nov 2019 04:43 PM PST Following is a list of P2P exchanges for trading Bitcoin. Common payment methods include bank transfer, cash deposited in the seller's bank account, in-person cash (face-to-face) trades as well as payment networks such as Zelle, Alipay, even Cash App and PayPal, for example. Any that I am missing?
Altcoin-only P2P Trading exchanges
Aggregator/Search and Helper Sites
Note: If you use one of the above P2P OTC trade "matchmaking" services, please trade with caution and do your own due diligence. This list does not include exchanges not in English (e.g., 58Coin), deserted or defunct marketplaces (e.g., Cancoin), not-yet launched (e.g., OTCBoss, Zismo.io), ones that operate only through dark markets, or online-only DEX/decentralized exchanges (another list of DEXes). Also, there are a number of variants that I didn't list:

Half a million UTXOs destroyed in one weekend Posted: 18 Nov 2019 10:32 AM PST

Posted: 18 Nov 2019 01:59 PM PST According to the charts and my eyes, this will be the last dip before we take off. I don't generally post such sweeping statements, never have in fact. But I've been predicting all the last few jumps and falls with surprising accuracy. And since I don't have proof of my previous predictions and I don't want to share my buy/sell data, I thought I'd make this post to document this prediction. Essentially, it might drop a bit more, but then go up. It might drop or stay around 8K at the most up till the end of this month, but my data indicates it's more likely to recover this weekend rather than next. Then it will continue rising at a much steadier pace than in 2017. Compared to 2017, there will be a 1:10 time ratio (deviating between 1:9 and 1:12). Which means the rise will take place over 30 months until the bubble forms. This is a prediction up till before the volatile peak, not to the new ATH because the data is too volatile to predict that exactly. While 30 months sounds like a long time, the gains will be considerable in order for it to reach 120K before exploding to *160K (160K number only based on extrapolation, not calculated). I have 2 different gain predictions based on different starting points. The above is based on the first starting point. Interestingly, the second starting point has a different time ratio that leads to the same 30 month span, but it predicts much lower gains. With more time, I'll know which one is the correct gauge. If this sounds like a load of nonsense, please ignore. I haven't properly explained the concepts. Nor have I detailed my methodology. Though it's inspired by digital audio editing so please don't point out that time ratio's don't exist in conventional data analysis. The point of this post is to record the italicized paragraph (NOT to give investment advice). I got excited and started writing out other predictions, sorry. If the italicized portion pans out over the next week, I will make a more detailed post about everything else. If it doesn't, I will... lose a lot of money I guess. [link] [comments]

How many supercomputers would it take to equal the Bitcoin hash rate ? Posted: 19 Nov 2019 03:21 AM PST Trying to put the power of the Bitcoin mining network into perspective for people. Is there a flop to hash conversion rate ? Or can anyone just hazard a rough guess of how much hashing power the worlds biggest supercomputer "Summit" is capable of ? It's processing power is one exaflop. [link] [comments]
