The point normies miss about our beloved Bitcoin Posted: 05 Oct 2019 02:00 AM PDT Wouldn't it be nice to be able to measure your dollars against a metric like that which we do length or distance? A foot/meter is still the same foot it was a hundred years ago. Yet we don't have such a metric for value. Or do we? The reason such metrics for length don't change is because in order for such a change to happen would take great consensus of everyone using that metric. Think of Bitcoin in that way. There's a certain amount that will ever exist just like there is a certain defined length in a foot/meter that will never change because it's found it's objective length. Bitcoin is going through it's decades long "price discovery" which right now is valued in dollars because that's what we've been used to for so long but eventually, due to its defined and unalterable scarcity, it will be the defined metric for which all other things of value will be measured against. Don't get me wrong value would be valued against anything, except dollars value drop over time without fail because that's how they're designed to inflate in supply but not Bitcoin. Bitcoin is the first truly scarce by design metric for value. For a long time it will go up in dollar value just like a foot or meter of land goes up in dollar value over time but that's not the land's fault, it's the dollars fault. Do you get what I'm saying? Better tech will surely be developed than Bitcoin but because Bitcoin was first makes it THE metric kind of like gold was the first metric of value however gold doesn't have the defined scarcity like Bitcoin because gold could and mathematically probably is infinite in the scope of the universe unlike Bitcoin. Bitcoin is what gold strived to be and that is truly scarce by design. [link] [comments]

Why is it so fucking hard to set up a node? Posted: 05 Oct 2019 03:11 AM PDT I've been trying to set up a node for almost a month now and I don't know why I keep getting so many errors. Posted: 04 Oct 2019 06:31 PM PDT Many people assume Bitcoin because has no use because it isn't scalable to the world's population. However, this is being compared to fiat and other assets which are also unscalable on their own hence it's very misleading. Gold and fiat are more unscalable than Bitcoin but they use third parties to help make them scalable like Visa, Mastercard, Paypal, banks..etc Bitcoin can be scalable this way as well through third party services (even cheaper and faster). But bitcoiners want to transact in a decentralized way ultimately creating a new problem that doesn't apply to the majority of the current human population. Most people right now transact in a very centralized way and they are ok with using credit cards, their bank accounts, paypal..etc. So scalability isn't bitcoin's problem; it's scalability without having to trust a third party. If the world wants to use Bitcoin in a centralized way (like every other assets), it's already possible. [link] [comments]

Is Bisq legitimate and safe to use? My anti-virus says it's a no-go... Posted: 04 Oct 2019 10:32 PM PDT I just downloaded the desktop app after hearing great things about this platform, and Webroot immediately flagged the installation as a W32.Trojan.Gen, which may just be a false positive but I can't stress enough how much I don't like seeing that. The file was downloaded directly from their official website and I verified the PGP signature before installation, so I'm not sure how I want to proceed. Their github page mentions that there are some known issues with anti-virus software with version 1.1.5 (current version is 1.1.7), and then goes on to state: " If you use Crypto currencies on your Windows system be aware that Windows is much more vulnerable to malware than Linux or OSX. Consider to use a dedicated non-Windows system when dealing with cryptocurrencies." That's a hell of a thing to say to someone who's a Windows user, and while I'm well aware of the concern over fake wallets that contain malware or otherwise modified code and thus the need to verify PGP signatures of the installation files before sending any money to them, is there much concern beyond that? Is Windows truly not safe for crypto trading? I'm not a total noob when it comes to computers but I'm not exactly Mr. Robot either, and I really don't want to have to learn Linux and run it on a virtual machine to be able to do this...
