    Anonymity of tornado.cash mixer

    Posted: 09 Sep 2019 04:00 AM PDT

Hi, how exactly does it work that the contract can verify that the user chose an unspent commitment but nobody else can see which commitment was chosen?

The image below is from the github page and tries to explain the idea. However, when the user submits their nullifier part of their commitment during the withdrawal process the contract does know which deposit belonged to this commitment to mark it as spent, is that right? Can someone explain why shouldn't it be possible to link deposit to withdrawals by this?

Why don't all ERC20 TXNs use the same amount of gas

    Posted: 09 Sep 2019 03:38 PM PDT

Remedial question, I know, but I can't find a good explination.

If I look at all the TXNs for some ERC20 token "$BAT", why do I find that different TXNs used different amounts of gas? Shouldn't standard Transfer_From_To ERC20 TXNs consume the same amount of resources in the Eth_VM?

    EX:

I thought Gas Used was a product of how many VM operations were required to run the TXN. If they are all against the same smart-contract, shouldn't all Transfer_From_To TXNs require the same number of operations to run in the VM?
