Why is the network so clogged right now?

    Posted: 11 Sep 2019 04:22 AM PDT

I've 3 pending transactions, pending for more than 10 hours, I've selected the "slow" mode on metamask, but 10 hours is really slow, right ?

Why is the Ethereum blockchain so clogged right now ?

Selecting miners for higher gas limit

    Posted: 11 Sep 2019 03:12 AM PDT

I was thinking about calls to increase the gas limit above 8M, and thought how could I help. I'm not a miner, so there goes that. But maybe there is a way, maybe I can have my transactions only be available to miners that support a higher gas limit. This can be generalized to enable users to support specific miners (or pools or subsets), at the cost of longer validation times (if I select 20% of the miners, I'll have to wait 5x as long for the first confirmation). This small incentive (assuming it's not only me) can be used to signal miners and encourage specific behaviors (until ETH 2.0).

How can this be done? I can encrypt my transaction with the public key of the miners. Only they will be able to recover the transaction, and include it in their next block. This will require them to be looking for such broadcasts, and probably a dedicated P2P for encrypted messages (I would guess a miner will not broadcast other miners messages), but should be relatively straightforward.

What do you guys think? Is this something we want, maybe as a feature in standard wallets?

EDIT - corrected a mistake pointed out by flygoing

ConsenSys has become the newest Premier Member of Hyperledger and Joe Lubin has joined the governing body

    Posted: 11 Sep 2019 07:53 AM PDT

ConsenSys and Hyperledger announced today that ConsenSys has become the newest Premier Member of Hyperledger, an open source collaborative effort created to advance cross-industry blockchain technologies, hosted by the Linux Foundation. Additionally, ConsenSys's PegaSys protocol engineering group submitted its Ethereum client, formerly known as Pantheon, as the project Hyperledger Besu, the first public chain compatible blockchain submission to Hyperledger.

ConsenSys will join a Hyperledger membership made up of 270+ leading companies in finance, banking, IoT, supply chain, manufacturing and technology. ConsenSys' PegaSys submitted a blockchain framework based on public Ethereum for users to build and run robust, industry-specific applications, platforms and hardware systems to support business transactions. As a member of the Hyperledger community, ConsenSys will explore interoperability across blockchains and help drive standards to support enterprise-grade blockchain environments. Hyperledger Besu will benefit from a global community of Hyperledger developers, technical working groups, and leading open-source governance standards.

"As a new premier member, ConsenSys is now an active part of the Hyperledger community and the open source, open governance approach to blockchain," said Brian Behlendorf, Executive Director, Hyperledger. "By submitting the code for Hyperledger Besu right out of the gate, ConsenSys is showing its support for our mission to build a broad coalition for advancing enterprise blockchain. The more technologies and members we have working together, the stronger the foundation we can collectively build for blockchain-based solutions."

Joseph Lubin, Co-Founder of Ethereum and Founder of ConsenSys, will join the governing board of Hyperledger, which now counts 22 members. "PegaSys and ConsenSys have been committed to open source software and submitting Hyperledger Besu to Hyperledger demonstrates that commitment. Public networks with tens of thousands of nodes are most appropriate in a world in which we will see the tokenization of many types of assets and resources."

Hyperledger Besu is the 15th project in the Hyperledger greenhouse. Hyperledger Besu, a Java-based Ethereum client formerly known as Pantheon, is the first blockchain project submitted to Hyperledger that can operate on a public blockchain. Besu represents the growing interest of enterprises to build both permissioned and public network use cases for their applications. The project's design and architecture decisions have been aimed at clean interfaces and modularity, with the goal of making Hyperledger Besu a platform for open development and deployment. Read more about the framework, here.

Looking for feedback on our recent review of Ethereum. Any and all comments and criticisms are welcomed, looking to make the most accurate article possible.

    Posted: 11 Sep 2019 01:43 PM PDT

    Hello, Ethereum holders!

We recently started up Coin Grades as a way to compile accurate and trustworthy reviews of cryptocurrencies primarily aimed at newcomers, but also for those already involved in the crypto space to learn more about projects they may be interested in.

We were really happy to do the Ethereum review as one of our first. If you can please take the 5-10 minutes to read through the review and give us some honest feedback it would be greatly appreciated. Any and all comments and criticisms will be taken into account as we continually edit to make sure we have the best and most balanced reviews possible.

Thanks for taking the time to let us hear from you!

And if anyone is interested in keeping up with our future reviews you can follow us on Twitter here and sign up for our newsletter here.

Ethereum wallet alternatives (since official wallet deprecated)

    Posted: 11 Sep 2019 04:55 AM PDT

    • At what point will you no longer be able to use the Mist wallet which now only works on geth 1.8.2.3 version?

I am asking because I have just recently learnt that Mist wallet and the Ethereum wallet are now deprecated, and I haven't moved my funds to any alternative wallets yet because I need to research a safe alternative for a local wallet (no web based wallets).

Am I safe to continue using Mist wallet with light client enabled as-is regardless of any future geth version upgrades or do I have to move my funds ASAP?

    Appreciate any recommendations, thanks!

Question: How would you prove that you are NOT the owner of a certain address?

    Posted: 11 Sep 2019 10:45 AM PDT

For instance, assume that, for any motive, you are suspected of being the owner of a certain address and it's important for an entity to determine whether you really own that address (i.e. for tax purposes, or because said address is involved in shady affairs). If you're not the owner, is there a definitive way for you to prove it? (like, if you're the owner and you want to prove yourself, you just sign a message with your keys - unless you are CSW)
