If you want to see Ethereum succeed.... Posted: 05 Sep 2019 10:59 AM PDT Here's the truth. Most people with hot takes on Ethereum haven't actually used it. Just read the comments here. And look at how popular Bitcoin media personalities aren't event willing to try Ethereum. That's fine, except these are the people setting the narratives now for mainstream. I don't know about you, but I'm done listening to a hot takes on how much Ethereum sucks from people who've never used it. And here's the thing. We play a role in this knowledge gap too. We now have mainstream ready tools like Argent and Gnosis Safe. We have lending products like Compound and Maker. We have stablecoins like DAI. Are we telling the world about them? Are we showing people how they can take back the sovereignty of their money? Not after ETH2.0 ships. Today. Ethereum is doing more to realize the dream of magical internet money than anything right now. We should be using these tools and shouting about them from the rooftops. I don't care about the bear market. We're in a bull market for real use cases of programmable money. So get the new Metamask app and send DAI using InstaPay. Show a friend how it works. Download Argent and lend some ETH on Compound. Share it on twitter. If you want to see Ethereum succeed you have to use the tools and spread the word P.S. There's a link in here to jump the queue and get an Argent wallet. It's a great place to start. [link] [comments] | ||

What is the “end goal” for Ethereum? Posted: 05 Sep 2019 04:16 PM PDT I'm just beginning to look into ethereum more so please don't get upset for asking a stupid question. I know a little about smart contracts, dapps, and erc-20, but was wondering what the "end goal" would look like for ethereum. There's so many different use cases that people talk about, but a lot of them seem to be met with the idea that they are far fetched and may not happen. I wanted to know what it would look like an a large total world scale. Used as money? Used just for smart contracts? Do smart contracts have a lot of crazy different uses too? Is ethereum something the general public would see/understand? Or just something in the background? I'm really trying to understand by connecting it to real world application, but obviously it's a huge project with a ton of potential so it's hard to wrap my head around it. Thanks for the help! Announcing the public release of PopLocker! Posted: 05 Sep 2019 07:06 AM PDT PopLocker is an Ethereum DApp browser / wallet and an alternative to Metamask. It is currently a desktop browser extension (although in the future, it will be a dedicated browser on both desktop and mobile). PopLocker is targeted at a mainstream audience with a focus on simplicity and adoption. Start here poplocker.io and then install the browser extension in the link. All a user needs to create an account is a password — which is used to encrypt a private key in the extension's storage. There are no seed phrases or private keys exposed to users and indeed no private key or seed phrase ever leaves the device. Instead, once a user has some ETH, they are able to backup their account by upgrading it to a SmartLocker. These are non-custodial smart contract wallets that allows users to link multiple devices to the same account (by using clever concepts such as meta-transactions and gas relayers). By upgrading to SmartLockers users can access a single account/identity on the Ethereum network from multiple devices — this also provides backup, if one device is lost then the user has other devices that can access their funds. Further release details are here: https://medium.com/poplocker/poplocker-public-release-7d6a03ce213 PopLocker Phases 1 and 2 were funded by a grant from the Ethereum Foundation (thanks EF 🙏).
