A friend loaded $60 worth of bitcoin in our old SMS-based Bitcoin wallet service from back in 2014 (discontinued). It's still there, 0.3041 BTC. He's withdrawing it today and it's now worth $2,870. The easiest way to HODL is to forget it.

[Lightning Network] Tippin Goes Mobile! Tip tweets from your own phone, with Bitcoin (Full wallet)

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 12:28 PM PDT

After a few months of hard work, I'm proudly announcing that tippin.me, the tipping platform based on Lightning Network that I released back in December, is going mobile.

And mobile means a full Lightning Network enabled wallet on your phone.

    Some highlights:

    • You will be able to send a tip to a Tweet, from your own phone, without any scanning involved!
Just share the tweet from Twitter App, and you are all set.
    • You own your keys, you own your coins.
    • Send lightning payments to tippin @usernames from within the App, just by typing their username.

An early alpha will be available for public testing this week, and Android will be released later.

    Thank you for your support!

    Where to build the citadel?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 11:54 PM PDT

We should start at least planning where we will build first bitcoin citadel. The country has to be very crypto friendly = no VAT, no capital gains on bitcoin, no income tax on bitcoin wage.

Country has to be somehow developed, so pls no Somalia again.

What is best location right now?

Plan B on predicting halving prices: "if I would have made that model, the linear regression, only in the first four years, it would have been exactly the same. So, I could have predicted the next halving value and the second halving value with only the first four years" Link to podcast.

Bitcoin is still called "the currency of the Internet" on r/Bitcoin. Surely, it's the currency of the PEOPLE?

If you really care about bitcoin

    Posted: 30 Aug 2019 03:22 AM PDT

If you are not currently running a bitcoin node, then you do not really care about bitcoin.

    https://bitcoin.org/en/full-node

Get your arses (asses) off reddit and social media and instead invest the few hours or less in setting up a node and helping to make the network more robust.

You will do more to help bitcoin, than lazily thumbing through posts about lambos and 'to the moon'

Reminder that 10 minutes is just the AVERAGE time between blocks

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 01:58 PM PDT

This is either an example of the law of averages at play or a lot of new hash power is joining the network.

Bitcoin node + Electrum server for $5/mo!

    Posted: 30 Aug 2019 03:07 AM PDT

I decided to test how low I could go in terms of $. I created a VPS on Digital Ocean using one of the higher end plans (IIRC $60/mo), ran it while it synced the blockchain with the prune setting set at 20 GB (minimum disk on Digital Ocean is 25 GB).

The next day, once the whole blockchain had been downloaded and verified, I downsized the server to the lowest plan at $5/mo and installed Electrum Personal Server.

The whole sync of the blockchain costed about $2 ($60/mo for just over 24h).

Let's get GitHub Sponsors to support Bitcoin!

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 03:17 PM PDT

If you don't want to read, just go here and star this repo: https://github.com/lastmjs/enable-cryptocurrency-in-funding-yml

    Hey everyone,

GitHub Sponsors just recently released, allowing GitHub repositories to show the official means of donating to them. They do this through a special file called `FUNDING.yml`. It supports official fields such as `patreon`, `open_collective`, and `tidelift`.

I think it would be amazing if they added as officially supported fields `bitcoin` and `ethereum` (if you hate Ethereum, just be excited about Bitcoin :)

Please star this repo and suggest improvements to the proposal. I have reason to believe that if enough of us ask for this feature, GitHub will implement it: https://github.com/lastmjs/enable-cryptocurrency-in-funding-yml

    How safe are deterministic wallets?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2019 01:55 AM PDT

How safe are deterministic wallet public keys in terms of privacy? If the keys can be determined, does that not mean sharing 1 of your public keys means that your other public keys can be determined easily by others, reducing your privacy as others will be able to tell which other public keys you have?

Why don't we launch a live Bitcoin Node (A copy of Bitcoin Blockchain) into the space?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2019 01:23 AM PDT

That would be cool! A backup of the blockchain transactions in space! That will make Bitcoin extra safe!
