Privacy focused Brave browser now requires KYC, time to fork?

    https://i.redd.it/52bkflf0cld31.jpg

The so praised Brave browser requires KYC now to be able to get tokens. I've just seen this today in the nightly build. It requires a government issued ID while it was advertised as a privacy focused browser. A fork seems more necessary than before.

Here is a link to a previous thread in r/btc suggesting to fork Can some tech guru fork a BCH version of the Brave Browser?

I think at least the tipping part would be easy to build using Badger wallet and some sort of Open Graph tags without all the verifications Brave is requesting.

    News from their r/BATProject : https://www.reddit.com/r/BATProject/comments/chbr90/brave_browser_added_ability_to_withdraw_bat/

I would suggest that the fork or alternative tipping extension should not be limited to BCH to increase adoption.

    Bitcoin.com fundraiser

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 11:07 AM PDT

I'd previously made a small donation to the fundraiser, but today I finally decided to give 1 BCH to the cause. I'm not a whale, but I believe in what BCH is striving to achieve. There's only a couple of days left. I really hope the BCH community can come through and support its protocol developers. Just give a little to help the cause. Here's my donation: https://explorer.bitcoin.com/bch/tx/54f271d99c534afad67295037af2bd91718eacab589b0ee8ab3d97d2f0cac4ea

Most successful mobile-phone-based financial service in the developing world M-Pesa fees are 0.26-3.19 USD (if registered user) Bitcoin Cash: No registration, fee 0.0009 USD, instant transfer.

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 12:41 AM PDT

    Just found this interesting.

Transaction charges depend on the amount of money being transferred and whether the payee is a registered user of the service. The actual cost is a fixed amount for a given range of transaction sizes; for example Safaricom charges up to 66 KShs (0.64 USD) for a transaction to an unregistered user for transactions between 101-500 KShs (0.98–4.84 USD) and 27 KShs (0.26 USD) for a transfer to a registered user for the same amount. At the highest transfer bracket of 50,001-70,000 KShs the fee for a transfer to a registered user is 110 KShs (1.06 USD). The maximum amount that can be transferred to a non-registered user of the system is 35,000 KShs (338.59 USD), with a fee of 275 KShs (2.66 USD).

    Bitcoin Cash median fee: https://bitinfocharts.com/comparison/median_transaction_fee-eth-ltc-bch.html#3m

Now what I fail to understand is, what currency is the M-Pesa tied to?

It's Tipping Tuesday! - Topic: Opportunities!

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 12:10 PM PDT

    It's Tipping Tuesday (FAQ link)!

    Today's topic: Opportunities!

In 2 days it will be 2 years since BCH forked away from Bitcoin BTC to carry on peer to peer electronic cash for the world.

I think it is a good time to remember the journey that Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash have already made, the potential that is beginning to unfold, and the opportunities that lie ahead.

At the same time as we will celebrate 'Bitcoin Independence Day' on 1 August, the fundraiser for Bitcoin Cash development will also come to a close. Please consider donating on https://www.bitcoin.com/fundraise/ - the various development teams appreciate our support.

For newcomers: Welcome! Leave an insightful comment or a good question and receive a tip from our generous community!

I especially encourage those who've never received a tip to come forward! Small tips here are intended to let newcomers experience Bitcoin Cash for themselves. Your chance to receive a tip is better if your posting history speaks in favor of you being new to Bitcoin and curious / open-minded about trying it.

For everyone who's done this before: Use any tipbot of your choice! [1] [2]

No set recommended minimum or maximum - tip as you think the comments deserve.
