BCH is the real Bitcoin experience

    Posted: 01 Jul 2019 06:58 PM PDT

Been in Bitcoin since 2013 ; BCH is closer to the Bitcoin experience that made the currency popular.

I've been using BTC recently to buy some Stinky Linkies and I absolutely hate paying 50,000 - 200,000 sats to get my transaction through..

I can't believe Bankers have wormed their way into crypto through Blockstream and Libra.

BCH is ze true king and it's nice the ratio rebounded. Hilarious it's doing 20% of BTC workload, at 4% of the price, with 1000x less fees. Market dislocation. Could probably do 8-16x BTC's max current throughput with subcent fees. Now that will make Bankers s$&@ their pants lol.

Anyway that's all. Peace ✌️ . Also f$&@ the 🏦 banks. Charging me outrageous account and forex fees, and closed on the weekends . Crypto never sleeps..

*thanks for listening to my rant!

Local US Government To Use Bitcoin Cash SLP Tokens

    Posted: 01 Jul 2019 10:02 AM PDT

For the past six+ months, we has been working on a project for the local city government of Dublin, Ohio.

The project's goal was to provide three functions for the people of Dublin:

    1. A digital identity
    2. An electronic polling system
    3. A token of value

We're nearing the first public release of the system, and I was granted permission to start communicating about the system as the full rollout draws near.

I am excited to say that Dublin's token of value has been implemented on top of Bitcoin Cash's (BCH) Simple Ledger Protocol (SLP). We had performed a large amount of research leading up to the decision behind using SLP; in fact, when our research began, SLP was still in its infancy. As SLP matured over the past year, we grew confident that it would be a wise choice for the platform of Dublin's token of value. We investigated other blockchain and token implementations, but ultimately decided Bitcoin Cash's scaling solution to be superior than other alternatives, and viewed the thriving developer community to be an important pillar to the platform's longevity.

Dublin's token is intended to be a barter and reward system to facilitate existing physical tokens and to incentivize positive behavior via rewards. For example, community service volunteers may receive Dublin points from the city as an extra token of appreciation for their good deeds. For instance, these points may be redeemed for discounted entrance tickets to city sponsored festivals (e.g. the Dublin Irish Festival), redeemed for city-branded swag, or used for priority entrance into sporting events at Nationwide Arena (Let's go Blue Jackets!). Dublin's token of value may also be used to digitize existing physical tokens used by the city. When we considered the use cases around Dublin's token of value, we found Bitcoin Cash's low network fees to be an important component of Dublin's token's viability. Without low fees, the "value" provided behind the Dublin's token would be limited to larger rewards, as the cost of redeeming the token would begin to compete against the actual value received.

To transfer tokens, a fee is paid to the miner to secure the transaction. With most tokens, including SLP, the fee must be paid in the underlying blockchain's currency. For SLP, the user would not be able to transfer or redeem their Dublin tokens without BCH. Requiring the user to first acquire BCH before redeeming the Dublin token would degrade the user experience, and be counter to the city's intent of rewarding its community. Therefore, if a user registers their digital identity with the city of Dublin, they will also receive a small amount of BCH to fund their wallet. The amount received by the city is about 0.10 USD, which funds roughly 50 SLP transactions. With this mechanism, users may redeem their tokens with vendors or transfer them to family and friends without worrying about fees. The low network fees of BCH allow the city to fund hundreds of transactions for a single dollar.

Dublin's token is not backed by any asset, and is intended to resemble a coupon or barter system. The token will make use of the SLP baton system, and therefore additional tokens may be reissued by the city. We found this mechanism best represents the city's intent behind the token of value--tokens are not expected to be directly tied to monetary value. For example, currently a (physical) beverage token at the Dublin Irish Festival may be purchased for 2 USD; however, each token is not guaranteed to be "$2 of beer", instead a vendor may offer a beer for 3 tokens, or a soda for 1 token, or whiskey for 4 to 6 tokens. Dublin's token of value behaves similarly; vendors decide what value to place behind the token. To reduce confusion, Dublin's token will be whole units and therefore will not be divisible into fractional points (i.e. a user will not be able to possess half a Dublin point).

Dublin has not announced the name of its token yet, but the official token name and identifier will be integrated into Dublin's custom digital wallet and will be clearly identified within the city. As an SLP token, Dublin's token will be compatible with other SLP wallets, such as Bitcoin.com's Badger Wallet, and exclusive use of Dublin's app is not required.

The system we've engineered is intended to be a low-risk proof of concept, and is not necessarily the final system. The intent is to prove the viability of blockchain technology for use in government, and therefore parts of the system may be expended upon, reengineered, or even deprecated. Additionally, all components of the Dublin Blockchain are meant to augment existing systems, not replace them--therefore, use of the Dublin blockchain is completely optional.

In the past few months, we have been talking with local businesses in Dublin and the surrounding cities, including our state capital, Columbus, OH. While I cannot announce their direct involvement yet, I can say we have received amazing support and initiative around integrating with Dublin's blockchain.

We are excited to be releasing the first US government blockchain token, and are thankful for having a local community that is both innovative and eager to dive into the future.

Debate me: As an American with access to financial services, why would I use/buy BCH over BTC?

    Posted: 01 Jul 2019 11:01 PM PDT

    Hi Guys,

I wanted to have a friendly debate about this. All I ask is that you treat me with respect, and I'll do the same to you. I'm not some BTC loving "evil/stupid" person, I'm just some normal dude.

So take me for example - average guy in his 30s, has banking services, a little spare cash. To be frank, I don't even need cryptocurrency for my life to be improved - life is good.

Why would I waste my time buying/"investing" in Bitcoin Cash when Bitcoin is "good enough" for me, works, and has the name brand recognition as being "the original"?

I don't care about fees, and neither do people with millions or billions of dollars - they just want to hold the money (aka asset) that everyone else is holding and liquidate/trade when necessary. That is where I and they want to put their money, in an asset that a large amount of people agree have value.

BTC has a $175 Bil market cap, BCH has $7 Billion. I just don't see the growth opportunity that so many here predict.

BCH is cool with the low fees I suppose, but it's dramatically less secure than BTC, and I imagine in the long run despite developer's best efforts, the majority of crypto transactions will be done "off chain", with settlements done "on chain".

I know of Lightning, seems a bit convoluted and difficult to use, but I don't think it's failure (or minimum adoption) will lead to Bitcoin failing/losing it's dominance as the top "true" cryptocurrency.

    Thoughts?

Ok I'm a bit confused and need some help understanding.

    Posted: 01 Jul 2019 07:12 PM PDT

Ok so I received some BTC not a lot (~$50usd) and before i sent 1 transaction (~$30usd) from the BTC I received I made sure it was confirmed. Sent the first one and it went through fine (although still unconfirmed) then I went to send the rest at about 2pm est (15minutes after the first) and it isnt going through and says unconfirmed parent. I thought the parent would be the BTC I received? Am I incorrect in thinking this? Longest I've waited while sending BTC, so I'm a little nervous. What am I missing and just over reacting too?

A Final Word to Bitcoin From Amrita

    Posted: 01 Jul 2019 06:18 PM PDT

    Hello Everyone,

I thought I would just post one final time here since everyone is running wild *again* with crazy accusations, insults, and other incoherent behavior regarding me having to shut down my token faucet.

First let me explain the faucet - Because my wallet's transaction history became so extensive I was eventually unable to perform token sends using the REST API which I relied on. I tried to resolve this but hit a dead end, and decided to take the website down as it no longer functioned how it is supposed to, and was causing confusion. Yes, I am selling the domain name, I have a lot of domain names and if I don't use them anymore I sell them, its not complicated.

What I really want to say is this - For the last 6 months I have been working on various Bitcoin projects on different networks and at every single step of the way I was immediately met with suspicion, accusations, madly inaccurate assumptions, and flat out attacks against me just for building apps that one tribe or another didn't like. My projects this year were a free Bitcoin Guestbook, the BitcoinAPI which was free, free twitter tipping in BSV, the token faucet on BCH, free on-chain IRC chat, and other projects, all of which were 100% paid for by me and free, and never charged money. Everyone is calling me a scammer, but look back on my projects and decide for yourself if I was out to scam people.

Also regarding donations - I did receive some small donations while I was working on Bitcoin SV projects. When I quit those projects, the money was demanded back from me and I was threatened with being reported to immigration if I did not return the money. When you donate money to somebody, that does not mean that you bind them in an automatic work contract, it is a donation... those of you who fail to understand this need to grow up and be adults, your behavior is absolutely appalling. I will never again in my life even make it possible for someone to donate to me or find a way to because of this.

Finally, I am not getting involved in anything bitcoin related ever again, I will not be posting here and I will be deleting this reddit account. The remaining SLP tokens I have will and have been being returned to the donors as I find them and get their current wallet addresses. Keep in mind I had 40+ people send tokens so this takes some time to get everything back to the right person and in the right wallet.

My only advice to bitcoin is to treat people with a little more respect and try to remember that we're actually human beings with actual struggles and challenges, we're not just charity workers here to make you feel good about your investment. One of my favorite developers this year started making cartoon videos about life advice and bitcoin, and he was doxxed and trolled so hard that he removed all of the videos within a week and never returned, he was visibly upset in his last video and it broke my heart to see. Adoption or even usage will never happen when this kind of attitude is just thrown on every new person here.

Please do not contact me, do not post about me expecting a response, I am done with bitcoin period and never want to hear about it again.

    Goodbye,

    Amrita

Is BCH backwards compatible with BTC via CashAddr? Can I use BCH to send to a BTC address?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2019 02:35 AM PDT

Finally found some stores that take Bitcoin! But they are not very knowledgeable about it.

I have mostly BCH. Being a fork of BTC is it anyway backwards compatible? Can I use BCH to pay?

Obviously I'm sure it's dependent on the merchant wallet software, but any advice will help to know what to look for. I.e.:

    • Is BTC CashAddr protocol support just BCH, or does it mean BTC can accept BCH?
    • Is there a specific indicator in the address, e.g.starting with 1, q, or bc1q etc?
    • Is segwit addresses (starting with 3) compatible?

Are there any third party solutions?

    Thanks for any insight!
