Proposal to Have a NFT issued to the “First Stakers” at Devcon V Posted: 15 Jun 2019 10:26 AM PDT If the deposit ceremony for stakers is going to be at Devcon, and the goal is to have 2M ETH staked by the beacon chain's genesis block in January 2020, there should be a NFT given to these "first stakers." It could be a great collectible one day for people who want to prove that they truly were around this ecosystem from Day 1. What are everyone's thoughts on something like this? [link] [comments]

How To Withdraw TheDAO Funds On Ethereum Wallet? Posted: 15 Jun 2019 11:01 AM PDT Hello! I have originally purchased TheDAO tokens through a Multi-Sig Wallet Contract. Now, the tokens are stored on the Multi-Signature Wallet Contract, and I cannot find any way to convert them to Ether. I am certain that there is a method I could use to convert them, as the tokens still exist on the Ethereum platform and the refunds are still being given to the holders. Please inform me how I could perform this withdrawal transaction. Thank you very much in advance. [link] [comments]

Solution to the $5 wrench attack? Posted: 15 Jun 2019 04:16 AM PDT Probably wasting everybody's time, but... What would be wrong with parking the bulk of your hodlings into a wallet whose private key is generated from a function that accepts a seed that you memorize or safely store but which derives its result by repeatedly hashing itself over and over? Similar to how HD wallets work, except there my understanding is that we're using the technique solely for the purpose of creating multiple wallets that are all derived from the same seed. This would be like a time vault, which can only open after a preset interval. In this case we choose a suitably high number of iterations so that, practically speaking, you wouldn't be able to derive the private key until some number of days/weeks/months pass. Yes, so the computer is sitting there for weeks calculating what this key is. Then you derive its corresponding public key, and then the address, and you send your loot to that. And power off the computer. Yes, when you want to access this wallet, you now have to sit there and wait for some number of weeks before being able to. But now consider the scenario with the $5 wrench. An attacker can't just pull off the home invasion and demand the loot. He'd have to hang out and wait until the private key is derived from your seed. The longer this interval is, the more unlikely this proves to be a viable strategy for the attacker. Maybe he takes the seed and then performs the calculation himself from the comfort of his lair. But for that case, you give him a bogus seed. He won't know it's bogus until far off into the future. By which time ideally you've called the police or put yourself on a plane or whatever. Wouldn't it be the case, if this technique were deemed to be viable, that it would serve to help prevent these sorts of attacks in the first place? If we all declare our support for time vaults and we all announced our intention to use same, it becomes a best practice and would-be attackers would become aware of the defense and thus left to find other devices.
